    This is a great video and the comments super helpful too. This will be my second time replacing the cable. I had seen this video a couple of years ago so very glad to find it again. I have saved it.
    It would be helpful to tell people if they need to empty the gas or oil before turning on its side.
    Thank you.

    Great video. Mine broke with less than 2 seasons under my belt, in the same spot. What a disappointment, seems like it’s a very common problem. I personally think it’s too much stress for such a small cable, I had to get my grass cut after it broke so I cut it, pulled the remaining cable by hand and vice gripped the cable to the handle frame and OMG it was hard as hell to pull out far enough to engage the blades.

      If you understand the geometry of the blade brake / engagement cable you'll see there's a significant amount of "LEVERAGE" involved to increase the mechanical advantage.

    great video. very helpful. thank you. you don't need the wood block to give enough play to get the transmission belt off. if you look where the spring is that needs to be removed, there is a stop. You just loosen that a little and turn it out of the way so the transmission can tilt giving the belt play. super easy.

    I think Toro included the metal bracket to fix a bug with old one. I think it has to do with how the spring attaches but like everyone else I got impatient and just replaced the cable.

    I also noticed that taking belt off wasnt necessary just loosen the tension at that middle first lock and be sure to get the proper tension before you tighten it back up with the new one.

  • @DIOSpeedDemon
    @DIOSpeedDemon 7 місяців тому +1

    Mine did the same thing. The open end design when you wash the mower, allows water to run down inside the cable and sit a the bend or bottom of the cable and rust it out. I am not impressed with that design. Now with a new cable, I will keep the open cable covered and not allow water to trickle down inside the cable. I am not Impressed.

      I'm going to use a lubricant this spring when I tune up the mower, something like tri-flow or 3-in-1. I haven't seen this in mower repair videos but bicycle repair and tune up videos show it all the time, and the cables are pretty much the same

    I just replaced a friend's. Pain in the backside, but IT CAN ALL BE DONE FROM ABOVE. (Model 20199) Free up cable at both ends. Remove front belt cover, remove the front two bolts on the rear cover pry up rear cover along side the engine and slip out old cable. Slip new cable back in, attach spring end to idler. Tighten cable adjustment clamp so it is just barely putting tension on the spring. Attach upper end, Zip tie or tape into wire harness cover, test out, then reattach cover and bolts. Done.

    These cables tend to hold moisture under the black plastic coating where the wires bend causing the cable to wear out and eventually snap

    My Toro dealer says to spray some WD 40 down the cable to displace any water that sits in the cable especially at the curve at the bottom of the handle where your cable rotted. The exact same thing happened to me as well.

    Does anyone know how to get the ToRo Timemaster 30 Sparkplug out of the Machine? THe Spark plug wrench works great if you have the Motor completely out of the morrow but does not work for me. I still cant get the plug out even using multiple different spark plug Sockets. Again - A PP Design for a $1200 Morrow. I will Definetly not be buying another one. @@marcusshamblin8552 It’s locked in sort of like a latch lock. You have to rotate it 90 degrees so it’s in a horizontal position and it will slide right out. Replace the new one in that same position and then rotate it back down to lock it in.

    Shortcut...i.e. :not to just change the cable
    The owner's son (owner JR.) told me that Toro made the kit and parts in the kit to replace parts in the kit "bracket"(my words) parts new different to "fix the problem" of the cable frequently breaking. According to him I am to change all parts in the kit . Not just the cable.

    Mine broke the same way with under two seasons and excellent care from me. Mine has an electric start and costs $$$. The cable design is horrible. Water gains ingress from the top of the cable, sits in the cable and rots. PP Design. After watching your video, I am going to try and get the cable on without taking the belt off. Then= I am going to Lube the entire cable with cable lube and keep water out of the top of the cable when washing. I have thought about the other cables also. I paid 1200. This is not acceptable. I have the same amount of Detris under the belt cover also. Bad design. I am going to line the bottom of the dual belt cover with silcone, OR used door insulation tape to keep the grass out. THis is a PP Design for such an expensive morrow. I am Dissapointed in the Design and it is suppose to be a Toro- top of its class. Live and Learn, thanks for the video. I will attempt to replace the cable just like yours. Thanks so much, RH DSD

    • @howtofixitworkshop
      @howtofixitworkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Yep, I agree with you, not a good design. Seems like it could have been a thicker cable and made out of a corrosion resistant material. Planned obsolescence I guess. Based on the amount of views and feedback and other videos available, it appears to happen to everyone. Thanks for your tips with the lube

  • @DIOSpeedDemon
    @DIOSpeedDemon 2 роки тому +2

    I replaced my cable using this video. I did not touch the drive belt and just fished the end of the spring around it. I used a Cable Luber device, cable lube and greased the top end. Be aware that the lower Handle-Cable on the Morrow is in the same situation= Water can get in at the top of the cable after cleaning, sit in the bottom of the cable housing all winter and corrode that wire also. This is a PP Design for a 1200$ Morrow. This cable replacement should have been a recall item and not me paying to get a new one after 2 seasons. I am very Disappointed in this TORO . I will Definetely not be buying another one. Toro used to have a solid gold name..??? WHAT HAPPENED...?????

    • @howtofixitworkshop
      @howtofixitworkshop  3 роки тому

      Hey Cody, it's been a while but if my memory is correct I used the block of wood as leverage to push the transmission toward the center of the deck and toward the belt pulley. The transmission has a spring attached that keeps it under tension and pulled away from the pulley under or near the motor. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the feedback

    I kept mine in the garage, cleaned it out, etc...
    This thing breaks stuff all the time, I have some thick blade grass but still... my little toro hardly ever breaks down and it is ten years old.
    Regret buying this, should have got a small rider instead. I hate this mower.
    ETA: the deck clogs up like no other, just a PITA all the way around.

    • @howtofixitworkshop
      @howtofixitworkshop  2 роки тому

      Haha, thick blade grass!... Man really, you regret the purchase? Mine has really only had that one cable break, that's the only non user error that I've experienced. Think I've had it for 4 years now and is mowed a lot of yards. Hope your luck improves!

    • @bensebaugh6017
      @bensebaugh6017 2 роки тому

      @@howtofixitworkshop It won't, this thing is a total piece of shit. Regret the purchase? YES.
      I said "thick" blade, and my neighbors small Cub Cadet rider looks like a professional cut even when the grass has dew on it.
      The deck clogs up even when the grass is dry, and really the only two things that this mower has going for it is the cutting width which is why I bought it and the engine has so far been solid.
      The design just sucks.

    • @howtofixitworkshop
      @howtofixitworkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Gotcha, typo on my part. Funny. Yeah I guess I can relate, mine does miss it's fair share of grass blades. I usually have to cut twice or cut slow in order to get a good clean crisp cut

    • @bensebaugh6017
      @bensebaugh6017 3 місяці тому

      Update, I'm fixing this thing one more time and selling, the drive belt is really thin and small, and the plastic part of the blade break cable that holds the cable in the handle broke this time....
      I got a Bad Boy zero turn and we'll see how that turns out, a lot of money but cuts the time mowing down by at least 80% and the deck doesn't clog up.
