Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis (Mother Sister and Da Mayor) was one of Hollywood's most beloved couples. Married for 56 years. Tina was Rosie Perez's character. Tina was Mookie's baby mama. Y'all gotta do School Daze next.
20:03 that always goes over people heads. He has a Larry Bird Jersey on and is from NY home of The Knicks. That fanbase always been that serious and I am a fan myself.
They are brother and sister also I'm glad 2 outta 3 of y'all haven't seen this. I love this film one of my favorite Spike Lee films also y'all should check out mire Spike Lee joints "Malcolm X" "Get on the bus" Da 5 bloods" "Red hook summer" also in Red hook summer you'll see something very interesting from this film.
Thank you guys for this reaction: Fun fact: Laurence Fishburne was supposed to play Radio Raheem. That’s Spike Lee’s real life sister Joie Lee. Please react to the following Spike Lee movies: She’s Gotta Have It School Daze Mo Better Blues Jungle Fever Malcolm X Crooklyn Clockers Get On The Bus He Got Game Bamboozled
The biggest part of this was the back drop was the heat wave… Everybody was on edge and the racial under tones escalated to a tragic climax. Personally, I loved Mookies character as is and there were plenty of great actors all throughout. This is a solid 9 for me!!
Y'all too young to understand, Back then there was no central air people hung out on fire escapes and some couldn't afford fans, minimum wage Was 5:50 6$ hour maybe 7 but everything was cheap and a dollar could get you a slice of 🍕. and a can soda now that's about 7$ just for the pizza 50¢ soda's are now almost 2$ and the weather back then was so hot but pure and We opened the fire hydrant to Cool off, I was there back in those days, I was the radio Raheem of East Orange NJ in 89 We Both had the same name brand radio called Lasonic 10 D batteries 🔋 5 on each side and Yes I played PE just like he did and BDP.
I always thought Mookie throwing the garbage can at the window channeled the rage of the crowd away from Sal and his sons. The building was sacrificed to save their lives. That was how I read it, anyway.
Spike Lee did surprise me with Do the Right Thing then Sal breaks the radio and burns down his pizza place. still crazy even in 2024 and more years to come.
This movie was what was happening in NY back then. Relations were strained between all these groups at the time. Thats why they were yelling “Howard Beach”!!! Yall were right about Sal’ but I think they felt like you been in our neighborhood all this time you make money off of us let your place represent us somewhere in here.
The funny thing is that they called Bed Stuy a black neighborhood even though historically Brownsville and Bed Stuy were historically Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn like Williamsburg and Crown Heights and Flatbush and other parts of Brooklyn. Brownsville once was called Little Jerusalem due its Jewish history , Bed Stuy originally was once inhabited by Jews and later Italians , Puerto Ricans and black folks. I am from Bed Stuy and Brownsville , Brooklyn myself . Even the show everybody hates Chris mentions that Bed Stuy was once demographically different the episode where Chris seeks shelter in Mr Levines apartment after a black out where everyone is looting.
All I heard was ima hater an ion know what I’m talking about 🤷🏾♂️ cus drop a time stamp where we were lost because of a concept or situation that originated in the late 80s/early 90s. Really it’s not much to be lost about with this movie. The main concepts of this movie are still things we face today (race relations, global warming, police brutality, etc.) so what are you really talking about? Please show us? 🤔 Also to say we’re too young to be watching old school movies is stupid too because you don’t know how old we are lol. We might be 38 years old. 🤣🤷🏾♂️ You don’t know that cus you don’t know us and you was assuming shit, and you most likely too damn old to be assuming like big dog 😂👌🏾
@kickbacktv. I didn't write the original post but I kind of feel what they meant. I still appreciate you watching these old gems though. For me, you just don't understand the time and not really the environment as much as I thought you would. You kept asking about AC, lol! Mookie going home to take a shower in the middle of the day, tide men talking on the corner, and more nuanced stuff, He is supposed to be a late teen, early 20s guy. These are teens and young adults from the late 80s, early 90s. This had the feel of that time. And it just seemed like yall couldn't get there a lot of times but it's an edited video, so it's hard to judge, per se. Again, I still appreciate your reaction and hope you continue to venture down this road. Just when you watch, maybe try to take yourself out of 2024 and really look at it from the view of just learning what things were like then. Spike lee also has an unique vision. I call him the black Tarantino. To me they are the opposite sides of the same coin. They actually really dislike each other on reality. So spike may not be for you. I don't like all his movies but his vision is uniquely his. He has other movies set in the 70s like Crooklyn. I would be interested to see how yall responded to that.
Right? I said that when watching it… but that’s most black men. They don’t see the real shxt that’s hidden. It has to be flat out expressed by the N-Word in order for them to see the bigotry & racism of it all. A mf don’t gotta call me that for me to see their true intentions.
