    Finished this game solo, and i really liked it. Even if the game gets easy 2/3 into the campaign,it was still fun to the very end! Some of the later battles was challenging and i had to use my brain to overcome my foes. It is the first campaign game I've ever played and i really recommend it for those sitting on the fence. The story is branching in so many ways that no single game will be equal.

    Love the game and the choices you make. It does get easier as the game progresses and once you realize what cards are most important, it can make the skill checks and combat less tense. The best part for me was choosing which path I would take and sticking with that path. It means I can come back to it and choose another path entirely. Also the game storage is really good. The game trays are very nice and if you don't like app driven games, this one is for you!

    Hi Alex, you said this has a good story but not the best - what game(s) do you think have the best narrative story writing? Could that be a top 10 for you to do?

    If you finish, could you do a post mortem?
    On BGG, two things brought up were 1) after about the 5th adventure it becomes a cake walk because you have more than you need to manipulate everything and 2) if you don't, you can rest so often you're hardly ever down resources.

  • @Shogunic
    @Shogunic Рік тому

    We played the campaign with two players from beginning to end. The game was a lot of fun in the beginning, but we found the story the weakest aspect of the game. Story mechanics become repetitive after a while and the narrative is not on the same level of campaign games written by professional writers. This is more in the vein of "the goblin Gigllamarax needs the red sword to kill the orc mage Skarrax" fantasy, very unfortunately. We considered skipping chapters in the end. The game material is nice, though, and the dice puzzle are entertaining for a good while.

    I find this slightly more appealing than Destinies (co-op and not app-dependent) but I'm just stunned by the price point on the thing. How did they get to a $130-160 price point for what amounts to a CYOA experience? For that price you can literally get Oathsworn (standee edition) plus Destinies. Seems completely absurd to me.

    • @Kirk-Dennison
      @Kirk-Dennison Рік тому +1

      Oathsworn standee edition is $125 + 33 S/H on KS ($158 total) compared with RPA being $130 + 15 S/H on KS ($145).
      Spend your money how you wish - just wanted to clear it up that Oathsworn costs more.

    • @jeremyellis2103
      @jeremyellis2103 Рік тому +1

      @@Kirk-Dennison Great, so Oathsworn costs slightly more IF you include S/H as part of the cost of the game - I generally don't - but since it appears to be literally twice the game that RPA is (story + encounters whereas RPA seems to be largely just story w/dice manipulation), the question still stands. How did they get to such a high price point for that kind of experience? Maybe the better comparison is to Destinies which is available at retail for ~$40.

    • @Kirk-Dennison
      @Kirk-Dennison Рік тому +1

      Worth factoring in the shipping costs if you’re also looking at Kickstarter pricing - because I believe the MSRP for the Oathsworn standee version will be more than $125.
      The RPA game weighs over 15 lbs - Destinies doesn’t weigh anywhere near that much. Again, spend money how you like - just providing some data points. Cheers.

    • @jeremyellis2103
      @jeremyellis2103 Рік тому

      @@Kirk-Dennison Understood, but I'm looking for more of an explanation of why the cost is so high. If the main advantage of RPA v Destinies is that it's not app-dependent, but the cost is jacked up for the paper book(s), wouldn't that make the case for Destinies' app streamlining? I'm not inclined to measure by literal weight but by the content included. What is the content comparison between the two games? I meant the original question sincerely. If RPA is a CYOA w/skill checks, as Alex calls it, why would anyone pay that high a price for it? What am I missing?

    • @kevinwhat4918
      @kevinwhat4918 4 місяці тому

      I think what your missing is they are a business & will charge whatever they think the customer will pay.
      They do not have to justify the experience from any other companies product, just market it & sell it to thier target market.

  • @oxiris
    @oxiris Рік тому +1

    For the things one might not like I would count super generic art and very generic theme.
    In other words - visual and environment experience is boring which combined with KS pricing was a deal breaker for me.
