Hellloooo, voice over artists! Did AI affect your work? Are you loosing gigs due to AI services thrive? What about other digital creators? Is AI excluding you from the market? Lemme know down below, thanks!

AI voices are being used for guide tracks at times. There are certain sectors which need to be worried such as low end elearning. The reality is, though, that some industries (such as high-end commercials) often require very expressive, natural sounds with innate storytelling ability.
I'm not sure humans are responding to AI voices well.
Yes, if you curate it you can find something which works well, but the moment you need it to do something specific, REALLY say something, it falls apart and listeners switch off. They're saving money short-term but, in my opinion, hurting themselves long-term.
Even at lower budgets, I'm seeing a lot of casting calls specifying "NO AI VOICE/NO TTS".
Your concern about speed can be addressed by hiring VOs who can work from a home studio and deliver HQ sound quickly. I am at times able to deliver a correction in as little as 5 minutes if I'm already on the computer.
I'm an Artlist subscriber, so I'm currently debating whether or not to keep using it.

I´m a VO actor. Yes, there has been a lot of decrease in VO work because of AIs. I know colleagues who have been openly told by clients they work for that they will no longer contact them because the production department has chosen to use AI tools for their work.
I also know of large dubbing studios that are considering automated AI tools for dubbing certain products. The problem is not only the voice actors. It's the actors, the sound technicians, the production assistants, the voice directors and other people. They are all behind it.
That doesn't mean that human voices are going to disappear, but it is true that these tools are having an impact.
Like any tool, it has its good and bad sides.
The good part is that in a way, it democratises access to voiceovers for studios and companies that otherwise would not be able to afford a real actor.
The bad part is that the lack of regulation is leading to cases where voice actors are cloned without their consent. And also, that many jobs are likely to disappear at a very fast rate.

I will share this. I recently had a few conversations with people who have the opinion that generative AI art will never be the big "human" replacer that people say it will, or that the tech is a long time away from being good enough to do that in professional settings. I was saying, "you're blind if you think that companies (and especially corporations) aren't going to take advantage of slashing payroll & contract labor costs/budgets AS SOON as they think they'll be able to get away with doing so".
      Thanks for sharing. ✌️

All AI creations need to be taxed at a level that will fund a guaranteed minimum income. Because, when people have no income, they can't pay for anything. Today's economies will fail, and likely are already failing large numbers of the population.

As far as the "argument" we also did the same and learned the same way: every artist eventually brought their own share to the table without eliminating other artists or their relevance, whereas AI, having stolen centuries long blood, sweat and tears hard work of thousands of artists and creators without their consent, pooping music/images/text, etc. in matter of seconds, will render all artists, dead or living, irrelevant.

    • @samthesomniator
      @samthesomniator 6 місяців тому

"every artist eventually brought their own share to the table without eliminating other artists or their relevance"
No it is indeed not that easy.
Printing Press Typographers pretty much obliterated traditional hand lettering in book production.
Photographers finally finished most of traditional portrait painting.
The entire problem is if you view art as a commodity at all. This simply does not work! To sell artwork is simply not how artist should have to rely on. This works with illustration, with graphic design, or sound design! But not with art. It is in the nature of art that is can not go along with commodification.

@@samthesomniator I did not bring up the question of jobs or money *at all*
You gave your examples so let me give you an example what I mean by the later artists not rendering their predecessors irrelevant. Let's consider what is known as the Western classical music where we have records, the names here are just the representatives of a certain era, you choose the ones you prefer:
Medieval era >> Renaissance >> Vivaldi and Bach >> Mozart >> Beethoven >> Chopin >> Rachmaninoff >> Shostakovich >> contemporary, etc., etc. They all brought their own share to the table, enriching human culture, unlike what AI generated "art" is doing.
AI is robbing humans of the *creative process* so my fear is if creative people start resorting to AI for "help" gradually becoming lazier and lazier, they will eventually deprive themselves of creativity, which will turn humans into morons.

Limiting AI voiceovers to real cloned human voices doesn't seem a viable and sustainable solution. Perhaps better would be to allow AsI to synthesize voices but somehow record the percentage closeness to real human voices it was trained on. Profits could then be spread to contributors to any synthesized voice via micropayments for each leasing of that particular voice, perhaps on a per-minute basis. That way, there might be anywhere from 1 to 10,000 voices contributing to a particular synthesized voice, all of which would get a percentage-based micropayment for each use of the synthesized voice. Sure... more complicated but better for everyone all around.

Absurd to ask for government regulation like that. Just so, that some people can make more money and live of what "they want to do". Obviously, that's not going to happen.
Also, this doesn't cover the whole idea of humanoid robots and AI girlfriends at home. People will not want a subscription for that, and certainly not use online services for it. Who would want to pay a small fee everytime they talk with one of the companions or servants. 😂

Every job where human creativity is involved will be taken over by AI. This means:
    1. by retiring our brains after 40000 years of creating art, not to talk about 2 million years since making tools, we will be depriving ourselves of the creative process, which will turn humans into two legged cucumbers.
    2. the only jobs left for humans (cucumberized) will be picking tomatoes, rubbing floors and cleaning toilets.
    3. humanity will be divided into two species: the powerful few on top and billions of hungry sub-humans devouring each other.
