- Regarding the origins of the track, Del had become good friends with Olivia Newton-John, recording sporadically at Cherokee Studios in the early 70s. Her managers had the idea that Del should come up with some nostalgic 50s tunes to be used in a future film version of the acclaimed Broadway musical Grease (1972). The movie wasn't made before 1978, but before long Jeff and Olivia Newton-John had crossed paths at Cherokee studios sometime in 1973. Del suggested Jeff help him write some songs for this album and at least 4 tracks that were recorded for this project in 1974: Something To Believe In, Raylene, Amanda and (likely, though not confirmed) Cry Baby Cry. Jeff Lynne is not thought to have been involved with the Something To Believe In recording, however.
"Jeff also produced one version of Raylene."

So far ahead of his time. I love this hidden gem.
This has Jeff Lynne written all over it, from the guitar riffs and harmonies to the phrasing
Truly memorable brilliant ❤
Quanto è bello questo brano. Povero Del. Immenso Jeff ❤️
Wow, that sound is pure Jeff Lynne!
Vocal harmonies and guitar are by Jeff Lynne. Absolutely.
beautiful
Wonderful collaboration by Del and Jeff. Hopefully 2019 will, apart from the upcoming tour leg, see the release of a new ELO album. And God bless Del Shannon!
Del had that unique voice, clear as a bell , great range, cool falsetto, Del was the real deal. Unfortunately that doctor prescribed Prozac, and the rest well, you know what happened.
Che c'entra il Prozac

Thanks for putting this up, with a great explanation to boot. Hope all of you are well. I hope to meet you guys again, hopefully sooner than later :)
I'm having a hard time with this being a 1974 recording. There's nothing in it that has the Jeff Lynne signature of that era. It's much more late 70s, early 80's.
The rhythm track sounds 2000’s. it also has synths from late seventies. The initial recording and vocals are probably 1974.
Wow, I had no idea. Thank you so much for posting this!
this has john lennon written all over it ,when john made his comeback,,rip del,,,
