Hi Simon and thanks for the video because funnily enough I was only looking at this on the Hornby website, initially I was very keen on it but as I started to read into this a little more and also seeing your video then I am now thinking twice about getting this. There are a few things which are putting me off clicking that buy button so I shall be looking forward to your follow up video with great interest if you do one. 👍🏻. Cheers. …………Graham
Will be getting the De-ionised water Friday Dave, hopefully I will play the sound and smoke over the weekend. I don't think the sound will be that good, I think it only has a small sugar cube speaker...Simon
Hi, interesting looking loco, what let’s it down for me is the plastic simulated valve gear option spoils what could be a winner, why have they done this, did they run out of money or metal, thanks for sharing.
@@SimonLivertonCentral I’m not a fan of Hornby products anymore because of the issues I had with the 21 pin class 43 HST packs with the woeful not fit for purpose noisy motorised roof fans, they always cut corners to keep manufacturing cost down and selling prices as high as possible, it’s a massive part of what they do, they are a piss poor out of touch manufacturer living off a reputation of something great 30 plus years ago.
De-ionised water every time lest we get limescale. Steam on with the sound is a pain, a tiny single pole double throw switch is surely not beyond Hornby is it? As usual, half a job. I'll be watching with interest.
@@SimonLivertonCentral Can't remember who but someone bit the bullet and opened the unit up, there's a tank with a sponge and a disc piezo sits on the sponge. A circuit board and hall sensor drive the piezo externally...no fan unit present.
It’s a superb model. The steam is a bit of fun but it worked straight away.

Nice to hear the sound when you get it on

I will probably go with De-ionised, many thanks for commenting with the information...Simon
Shouldn’t make any difference what water you use as there’s no heating element so limescale won’t be an issue.
Have you ever seen limescale on a cold tap, so yes it will build up

There is no comment about what water to use as far as I can see.
water is water
F24 turns the steam off
Tap water is no good with what is put in it
