  • This 45 hp Mercury would idle ok but when you put her into forward she would stall. Also the lower carb would not respond to any air mixture screw adjustments. So I felt it needed both its carbs cleaned.
    After the cleaning she fired right up but I’m still having issues with cooling. The tell tale is still very hot and I need to correct this. Stay tuned for part 4 to find out why and how I corrected the problem.

    When you put the front cover frame piece back on how do you go about getting the choke plunger in there without bending it too far.

    I need to replace all the fuel hoses and fuel pump. I can run WOT fine but can’t idle. I have to start up and quickly put the high idle on and then get in gear or it does. I’ve traced it to not getting fuel. This looks like a miserable removal process to take the front pieces off!

      It sounds like you didn't clean the idle circuits out well on the carb clean. I would take it apart again and use a small wire to make sure you ream them out. Also have you done a compression test? No amount of tuning will help if the compression is low and uneven between cylinders.

    Just like the man said do compression test very first thing when trouble shooting. I just spent 300 dollars in power packs to realize I have one cylinder no compression took the cover off the dam piston is partially broke on one side and this thing still gets on plane very slowly. It’s now a parts motor

      Even a compression check can show good results and still have scored cylinders and pistons. Check out this video. It’s part 6 of all the time I spent trying to fix it. ua-cam.com/video/OnWXUnvqJt4/v-deo.html

    • @johndeer9721
      @johndeer9721 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah so you had a decent amount of compression you were wondering why it was getting hot. Yep that’s why it was in its way to do what my black max 150 just did. Save time and money and expense of a mechanic do the dam compression test but I guess that could still be a bit misleading

    • @johndeer9721
      @johndeer9721 2 роки тому

      And this thing still runs it’s not overheating water pumps like crazy but the mercs are known to pump weak until you throw it into gear and give it a little rev my motor is hard to start but once it gets warm it great and boat still does about 50 when on plain. I’m still running it screw it until I can find another motor

    • @LivetofishOutboardRepair
      @LivetofishOutboardRepair  2 роки тому

      That’s ok because you know that motor will probably grenade itself at some point. The motor I was working on was for a customer. He wanted me to get it running and sell it but I told him the motor was going to leave someone stranded on the lake. I convinced him to sell the motor for parts and he would still make money. He agreed 🙂

    • @johndeer9721

      That was a very wise decision because yes this baby will probably throw a rod or something through the case with my exciting luck and I will end up with an even bigger pile of junk. I only fish on a fresh water lake close to my house I have a awesome trolling motor so when this happens at least I will be able to make it back 😂🤷🏻‍♂️🧨

    • @LivetofishOutboardRepair
      @LivetofishOutboardRepair  2 роки тому +1

      Tobias Funke …. The Reeds are located deep inside the engine. You need to split the powerhead to get to them. In other words you might just as well rebuild the motor while it’s apart.

    I have this same exact motor. Mine idles fine, shifts fine into gear, but as soon as I get it into the lake I can’t get top end out of it. I just got it out of the shop and this was the first time I ran it today. I’ve had the carbs cleaned, replaced the motor mounts. Installed a new fuel line and hose, and I’m not sure where to go from here. My mechanic suggested running yamalube through it and I hope that works. Would you have any tips or suggestions? I’d greatly appreciate it

    • @LivetofishOutboardRepair
      @LivetofishOutboardRepair  3 роки тому

      Did your mechanic check compression? If the rings are worn or stuck this might be the problem. The yamalube might help loosen the rings. Did your mechanic do a link & Sync?

      @@LivetofishOutboardRepair I honestly don’t know if he did or not. I’m not very mechanically inclined, he said there was a little bit of carbon buildup and just to run some yamalube through a tank of fuel. I can get it a little past half throttle just fine but anything past that she bogs down. I’ve seen so many things that it could be and I guess I’m just a little overwhelmed and not enough money in the wallet

    • @LivetofishOutboardRepair
      @LivetofishOutboardRepair  3 роки тому

      I know it can be frustrating but really is just a process of elimination. The first things I check are compression and spark then fuel delivery and carbs. Full throttle issues could be ignition related coils, trigger, Stator, switchbox. Your mechanic should have checked these things to diagnose the problem. If he did and all was ok then he might be right about the carbon buildup.

    Where does the inlet spring needle go?

    • @LivetofishOutboardRepair

      The spring goes over the air mixture screw. The screw goes into the upper right front side hole of the carb, just above the small brass jet.
