I set this song as my ringtone but every time I got a phone call I would immediately start throwing punches at everyone around me and kicking over trash cans looking for turkeys. No regrets.
When this song plays in level 5, its usage was imrpoved. The song starts to play much earlier the team meets Red Bear, giving the chance to the players to listen the music almost entirely before the boss appears, and giving the creepy sensation that the boss can pop up any moment!
Yuzo did ungodly things to that cheap FM modulator and PSG noise chip to produce sound like this. It's basically cutting edge early 90s techno made on 1970s hardware. SoR was also one of the first series to effectively use ambient atmosphere to enhance the game experience. That first boss... you come out of the bar into a dark, dank alley basked by neon lights, with heavy rain coming down. Then the boss reveals himself and this music kicks in. Unforgettable... especially for 1992! Unfortunately, I don't see that same dark SoR ambiance in the upcoming SoR4. :(
Barbon (rips shirt): "COME ON!" Zamza/Souther: "HAH!" Abadede: "WRAAAAAH!!!" Jet (when grabbing before flying upwards to slam you down hard to the ground): “EYUK!”
This slaps so hard in sor4 survival when the game throws a random classic boss battle at you with like 12 different classic bosses simultaneously with the other thugs from the past. It's crazy
Man SoR 4 Survival was just like endless fun. The classic characters with their new alternate moves… Axel from 3 with all 4 alternate moves got me to like round 35 😅
R.Bear was an absolute nightmare of a boss if you didn't have a long-range weapon on you. Hacking him to bits with a katana was super-satisfying, though.
Some of the composers on the Genesis and SNES were absolute mad scientists with the technology available at the time. Games like Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Donkey Kong Country 2, Chrono Trigger, etc… have some of the best OSTs of all time. It’s one of the reasons that era was so great.
This is the only videogame soundtrack I know to this date that is in Locrian. Yuzo Koshiro is masterful at using dissonance here, the rhythm and melody scream badass, this is a masterpiece, 11/10, I freaking love it
Me too. Especially on the third level, you enter that weird ass cave and hear that alien thing groaning and then soon encounter that. As a kid I thought that was the boss, but was surprised thst the level continued after I killed it. Then this music began playing and zamza appeared from the mist.
"I'm not a Dragon's bitch like you! Yeah...yeah...You're a dragon's bitch!" Thank you Mans1ay3r, you led me to an awesome song and game with your madness.
This is amazing for Sega Genesis... Had this game the day it came out, always thought I was so cool listening to the music now almost 25 years later I'm still saying the same thing xD

It gets even better when you download the original .vgm files and use some music player that can use Winamp's .vgm addon. Then you can start to take the songs apart channel by channel and notice new parts of the songs that you didn't even notice before. Not only that. But you might also notice how even the most littlest of the peep sounds in the background, when missing will make the song feel so much different.
support.xmplay.com There is one player that can do just that, and there is the plug-in that i mentioned. support.xmplay.com/files_view.php?file_id=48 With that player and that filter you can play around with the ripped vgm files. possibly THE best boss music ever, on any console game ever, in a uniform "i am the king of boss themes" motif lol, flippin great "remix" or polish up of the same tune from the 1st game :) makes me want to roam down my local street, seeing if i can punch a phone box, or a bin or a sign to find, for some reason a samurai sword or a large , handily curved at the end chunk of scaffold! haha
I need to start incorporating that knee/headbutt combo into my clinch work. I doubt i have the sufficient mustache to pull it off like a true Bear though.
I was robbed in secondary school. In college I saw the guy who robbed me on the bus and the intro played in my head. I just stared at him until I got off. He didn't look at me
Loved the background detail at the end of stage 1. Barbon runs off as you fight Electra then you meet him outside with no music, just rain, as this fades in and "c'mon!" he rips his shirt off and roundhouse kicks you in the face. Don't forget the roast chicken in the bin.
