Out of my 123 static line jumps, I’ve had 2 really bad jumps, 4 tree landings, a few road landings, multiple jumps during red lights, only because I didn’t want to not jump and waste all that time for nothing. As horrible as some of my jumps were I truly miss it every day
Not the way I learned this song but the point is still the same.. What we do isn't safe, men get hurt and killed. Always remember that when you " Stand up, buckle up and shuffle to the door "
until hearign the entirety of this cadance and also reading the lyrics i honestly always heard the tag line as "glory , Glory, what a hell of a way to die" this is the first i have actually heard the entire version and damn it hit hard understanding what "actually" happened
My grandfather sang this when he was working outside, my grandmother didn't like the cadences. I always sang cadances along with him. When I was old enough I joined the military
@JonathanMichaelFleming you did a good job. Yes it's a cover for a older song. but it takes a lot of practice + editing in the footsteps and stuff like that .
My father was 22 years airborne he taught me a lot of airborne songs I wish he was here to hear you he would have been so proud of the cadences you do thank you.
As an old Paratrooper a lot of us changed the words a bit - from Gory to Glory very easy to do, and most times very appropriate. Only way better for a Airborne Trooper to go out is being in the middle of a big pile of brass and sounded by the enemy as they blead out !
There are few songs/cadences that bring back a flood of memories of brotherhood and shared experiences. This is one that always brings a smile to my face. God, I was never that young! Was I?
As a Veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division and the 173rd Airborne Brigade, this is more of a drinking song rather than a marching song. Regardless, not bad!
Good man you are. I’m a retired 11H/11BB4 but never did Airborne, I embraced the Air Assault route and did all the fun filled schools as I went up the ladder, lol. The 173rd has a deep and well respected history. Here in San Antonio, TX there’s not many Infantry Vets so I would go to the Airborne Association meetings and chat with some old Vietnam era Grunts and as they told me their stories I could visualize every detail since I’m well familiar with the tools they used and Dak To was no damn joke. With my 6 years served in 2/502nd INF, 101st I learned a lot about our heritage in WWII and Vietnam and was amazed. And I know being in an Airborne unit isn’t an easy assignment, lots of ruck marches like we did at Ft. Campbell.
Right before we got loaded onto our first jump they played this over the PA and the Jump master said "Dont worry, youll reach the group, I cant promise youll land in 1 piece or alive but youll find the ground for sure." and then we got loaded onto the plane. God I hated that jump but I now sing this before most jumps.
I love listening to you Candace at work as I come from a military family and my co worker have no clue what I am listening to and it helps me keep up with my work. Your amazing at singing.
Love your version of this! Love it!!! I am hoping you will do ANOTHER version of this, including some of the verses that are in other versions? Obviously there are a number of versions...I think this cadence is so good, you should do it twice!
My father is a 20-year veteran sailor of the Navy, yet he has always had deep respect for the Army still. And as his son, I joined the Army. When I went to visit the family and I showed him this cadence, he said "Hey that's the song from Band of Brothers!" I told him this was actually the cadence I had to hear every day, and he smiled in pride for his "soldier son" and we both laughed about it lmao I miss you dad 🔥
Being a civilian who never has been in the military myself I can still sing cadence at work and keep myself motivated and thst is what cadence was designed for to keep people motivated
I’m a retired Army Infantryman and we need good men in the Infantry and could use you. Contrary to public perception the Infantry isn’t populated by retards, before I retired in 2009 the average IQ in my Battalion was 119. Intelligent men can’t handle a mundane job doing the same task day after day, it’s like prison to us. We prefer a fluid and constantly changing environment that challenges us individually and as a group. In my 26 years I saw a lot of the world and met some great people who are my lifelong friends and I miss them dearly. I still keep in touch with a few of the men I served with and make sure they know that I’m here if they need help or to just laugh with. It’s odd how we remember the hilarious stuff we did since Infantry humor is legendary and I have no clue how they dream things up, lol. I know I sound like a Recruiter but I enjoy talking with good men who I’d share a foxhole with and the fact you watched this video speaks a lot about you as a man. My job was MOS 11H which is Heavy Anti-Armor Weapons Infantryman where I used the TOW system to kill tanks, I liked it since we didn’t have to walk so much. Years later they dropped my MOS of 11H and I was assigned as 11B Infantryman and fought in two wars as such. We don’t work on weekends and each month we have at least one 4 day weekend and our paycheck is always the same so it’s not like we work on an hourly basis. We work from 0900-1630 daily and come in for PT at 0630-0730 4 times a week. Well, that’s my pitch, hope we can see you in our ranks one day or, you can relay this info to someone you know that you think would be a good Soldier, we have around 150 other jobs to choose from, my daughter served as a 68C which is a Practical Nurse and after getting out, she started working 2 weeks later making $29 an hour doing the same job she did in the Army and now she’s attending college part time to get her Nursing degree which costs her nothing. I wish you well young man, do great things in life. SFC DeVos.
Happened for me as well (09-18). Arguably not my favorite, but always a fun cadence to march to. Best part was some dumbass conversation one of my guys had with our DS: Joe who got Airborne: What're you supposed to do if your reserve chute fails? DS with tabs a mile long: You have the rest of your life to figure that out, and when you hit the ground it's no longer your problem.
I'm a civilian but I must say this song hits me right in the soul... I'm one in the few refused to service but my entire family fought in every war this country ever sought... still to this day I wish I was given enlistment but now I'm too old now
My great uncle Harvey Henle jumped into the shit in WW2, fought like hell, and stopped for a smoke break, and was then shot dead. More of a man at 22 than most of American males today. Rest in peace Uncle.
aint airborne but had a DS that was, He would sing this several times through Basic. had several ways of having our Moral rise which included a very interesting video
December 1985 I showed up for Airborne School. HQ company where we signed into had this blasting outside. All I could think of was "What the hell did I get myself into." Made JM and Senior Parachutist but then BRAC gutted the Army. Never got my Master Blaster.

this song was our wakeup call during jump week, did wonders for your nerves, Sept '75. Airborne all the way!!!

Same😮
They tend to sing this *at* people on the ride to their first jump. You know. When they're nervous and don't know what to expect.
@JonathanMichaelFleming you did a good job. Yes it's a cover for a older song. but it takes a lot of practice + editing in the footsteps and stuff like that .

It’s more to keep us in step but definitely helps with morale
All American til they put me in the ground ... been a few years since I heard this cadence... brings back memories
My grandpa used to sing this all the time. It's probably how I got my morbid curiosity

Song plays EVERY morning during PT at Ft. Leonardwood. Became my favorite cadence.

Being a paratrooper, it’s easy for me to visualize this.
Thanks for the memories!
Airborne! I sing this to calm myself, when I'm bored or about to do a jump.
I wanna learn this
I when i do something that terrifys me i sing this song or my mother told me
It calms me down and make me feel like i can achieve anything
Thank you for this, this reminds me of my grandfather #VietnamVets
Though its a nice song, it shows the truma both physical and mentally.yet the fact they still did these jumps must have taken a core of steel
