I think when musicians 'grow to big', and become sort of public property (not only serving their hardcore fans anymore, but doing corporate shows and all that shit), they lose some of their artistic authenticity. That's why I, just like you, love his earlier work best.

Personally would say it's more "underneath" or underated song than blame it on me, chorus absolutely slaps especially on a speaker system.
