I am in swaziland and have a self built lathe based on a thorens TD 125 MK II . I cut traditional vocal singers, sermons, speeches, people's will.. I love your work keep it grooving man! White lion in Swaziland
I'd use tangibleformats to make a mixed tape of me and my girlfriend's favorite songs and end it with a recording of my voice asking her to marry me. Just imagine, it would be the coolest way to propose
I definitely want to make a custom mix of old school west cost songs that i really love that have either never been pressed or are basically impossible to find
I can’t think of a better idea of doing interviews of the older family members who could pass down stories and or experiences to the younger family members and would make for a terrific tool for preserving family history on media that can stand the test of time.
In early 2000s where i live there was a supergroup called Lenny Valentino and they've recorded only one album named 'Uwaga Jedzie Tramwaj' even initial CD run is very expensive and hard to buy, not to mention limited vinyl release. It's one of most critically acclaimed albums in my country but needs more recognition outside it.
if I were to get anything pressed with them it'd probably be something from one of my music friends, I spend a lot of time talking with people that have not so successful music careers and the idea of having their music on vinyl is very nice, hopefully one day I could have a small collection of lathe cut records with their stuff on it
My grandad used to be in a small band playing in working men’s clubs in the 50’s. He played alongside Screaming Lord Sutch but his band never made it big. He still has all the old reel2reel recordings and every time we play them, his face lights up and it’s such a nostalgia trip for everyone in the family, every family occasion gets better when we put his music on. I would adore being able to digitise the recordings and press them onto vinyl for him, I just bought him a record player and he is experiencing all different kinds of music, this would make him complete I know it
I'm sold!!! I'd probably make a Mixed Tape of some artists I've always wanted to have on Vinyl, but were only available on CD or Cassettes, such as Nirvana's song Verse Chorus Verse (outtake version!), and it goes UP from there! And have some of my Mixed Tapes actually Remastered!!! Think of all the possibilities!!! I liked the vinyl you had pressed up, it sounded like the mastering really brought out the instruments!!! Thank you, Matt!!!
I'd have to surprise my future hubby with him on vinyl, he now owns a record store after years of working there and being in a band too, their band had tons of little opportunities but alas never hit it "big". The band is T.R.O.Y which stands for "The Reality Of Yourself". You may or may not like it, they can be found on UA-cam, Spotify, you know all those places. The record store I've mentioned before, Stick It In Your Ear. I know it would mean a lot to him to be "really" on vinyl. Obviously not the same as some BIG label but really cool nonetheless. I'm going to give the guys the info you gave here too. Maybe just maybe I won't get in trouble if I was to order one and surprise him with it and who knows maybe that would get the whole crew to want to do it too! Thanks for always sharing such great content! I know I will be a long time subscriber! ✌💜🤘
There are loads of local bands from my hometown that I’d love to do this with. From this video I can tell for sure it sounds great. You’re right when you say this band could’ve gone places. Really catchy stuff!
I am thinking that if you have a Montgomery Ward Airline Turntable with Built in Record cutting facility then can cut an FM encoded signal signal into a vinyl disc and play it back via a special playback decoder would that work or am I wrong?
Speaking of nostalgia, I would lathe-press my CD copy of 90's Boston band Throat Culture who won several "Best of Boston" awards during that time period before dissolving prior to making the jump to a more meaningful record deal. The lead singer of this merry band of miscreants was Steven Heinstein who was the brother of Rob, a guy I worked with in Boston at the time, allowing us to be regularly put on "the list" for performances in the city, most especially at The Rathskellar (lovingly known as The Rat--since closed) in Kenmore Square (around the corner from Fenway Park). We were often backstage before, during, and/or after shows (my first experience as such) and sometimes attended the post-performance parties invariably at one of the large band member's homes. No better listening snapshot in regard to a very specific time and place in life. Good times indeed!
I wasn’t aware there was even an option to lathe cut an LP, so thanks for the info. The music was clear, it would be interesting to hear a pressed version then a lathe version.
I think I already told you but my brother was a tour manager for a very famous hip hop group for 15 years before he passed away six years ago, they were touring in Asia one year and he jumped on stage with them and started singing I would love to have that on vinyl a very special memory of my brother
If its possible, I wonder if you can make a personal cut of rare albums that aren't repressed anymore, because I would love to be able to listen to some albums on vinyl if getting offical presses are too expensive, but if that's passed the line I won't bother
Thank you so much for this video. To be able to have the offer to cut that special record is wonderful. There is one Record I always wished existed but never did as the band only released it on CD, which was a bummer was by an Australian Band called Frente. The album is called "Marvin The Album". This post is old, so I do not know if anyone can respond, but I have acquired a huge box of these lathe cut records that were recorded by my father and uncle in the 40's and 50's, I would love to try and digitize them but have no idea what the best turntable or needle would be. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much
I would press my own now broken up band from college called Mirrors & Tides - I would do around 25 copies and sell them at cost for the small group of people who cared about the band that easily change my life. - So cool. Also would cherish the 2nd copy of this record. :))
@@TooManyRecords Thanks! - i've mentioned it to the other guys in the band and we would do all unique custom covers for each unit. - ahah look what you've done, got us all back together talking about the band.
I'd press Eggy, a jam band, out of CT. Or Townhall, a late 90s and early 2000s band out of Philadelphia. Had huge following in Philly and a little in New York.
I would like to make a compilation of songs from my five digital albums on bandcamp. I looked at the website, but it seems that for 12 inch they can only do 10 at a time. The regular custom option is sold out. Maybe if I send them an email I get get a better idea. It’s worth a try.
Glad to see the sound can be good on one of these! Not sure that I'd ever use it outside of a gift situation thpugh. Also, glad you ended up making a tribute to Centralside!
I am a record collector to, I am also interested in the vintage media, and I would like to see what a record lathe looks like. I’am totally blind, so I can’t just look at pictures of one, I would like to own my own record lathe but every time I try to find one it’s usually old and not working and I don’t know how to repair them but recently I heard about this record cutting machine called Phonocut. It’s supposed to be a record lathe that sounds just as good as a record that’s been pressed, and I heard the sample on UA-cam and it does, however, they keep giving people like me who want to own one the runaround and say that they will come out with it and they keep pushing back the dates the latest I heard was the end of next year. I am getting discouraged, because at this point it looks like I won’t be able to own one. I’ve been wanting to own one for years, and I would like to own one that sounds just as good as pressed records. So where can I buy a record cutting lathe like that?
Imagine all the possibilities, if I knew how to do this myself, Id take my entire digital only music collections into a full on physical vinyl collection just because I could.
Considering putting my music on wax. But now I'm not sure. My original idea was to use a random company that does double LPs. That way I could have 64 minutes. Close to a CD length. But now I'm wondering if it will end up sounding like garbage. The company you recommended does 22 minutes per side. Maybe the better option. Damn. This is way tougher than I imagined. Do you have a top 5 vinyl company list by chance? What are my other options?
Hey, thanks for the recommendation! I was actually planning to do a short run lathe cut of 20 copies of a 7" with some b-sides of the band I'm in, and it's great to hear that they're very quality focused. I'm curious - how dynamic was the music you had cut? Wondering how much that would affect the noise. I'd like to fix most of what i can in the mix (more dynamic range, narrower stereo spread, taming sibilance) before i hand it off to have it mastered for vinyl just to get better results because they won't be released digitally or in any other format. I'll definitely hit them up! Also I'd love one of 2 copies of that band, sounds great haha
Wow, talk about the right video at the right time! I co-wrote my first musical over the last couple of years - coincidentally, also the period when I fell in love with vinyl - and have been scoping out different ways to preserve our work as a "cast recording", something tangible for us to hang onto. We have plans to get everything streaming eventually, but I'd really love to press it on vinyl. The main issue has been getting around the minimum order requirement. This seems like it could be the way - thanks again!
That record sounded so good! I have an album which my brother's friend made, he shared it with his close friend and I enjoy listening it on my iPod once in a while, will definitely give tangible formats a try. Informative video as always.
That sounded great, I would totally get that if it becomes a tmr release. If I was going to get one it’d be of my dad and uncle, they used to play guitar together and sing old Mexican folk songs
I have been looking into getting a lathe and learning the art form. As far as a one off I would want to cut is a live show of my punk band from late 90s early 2000s. It was a show that we opened up for Bigwig from NJ. It was very fitting to find this video today after my buddy and I were researching lathe cutting a lot today. Love the video man. Thanks for making all these great videos!!!🤟🤟🤟
I loved the sound of the record! Amazing. Made me think about what I would want to be pressed. For my highschool graduation, a band by the name of Tarkio played. Little did I know that the lead singer is none other than Colin Meloy of Decemberist fame. They were touring their first CD "I Guess I was Hoping for Something More." The album has never been pressed on vinyl. Man, I would love it if it were. Thanks for sharing your video!
I know the contest is up but, I would love to press a Tally Hall album, possibly Marvin's Mechanical Museum or Rob Cantor's Not A Trampoline. Above all, I'd probably Lathe Cut Miracle Musical Hawaii Part: ii! I'm more curious about Lathe Cuts and such, who to go to, and if I could do a cut of labeled bands that haven't done a pressing or repressing on vinyl. Some albums just deserve more love!
I have some cassettes from high school of some rehearsals and jams with friends that would be cool to have on a lathe cut. Also, an interview with my grandfather on cassette who died around 86 that would be very cool on a lathe cut. Thanks, Charles
Cool process. I would think lathe cutting would be similar to other methods of production in that if you have the equipment and expertise, you should end up with a quality product. ... There's a NYC Irish rock band Black 47 that has since disbanded but only released their music on CD or cassette. They broke out in the 1990s, after the main vinyl era, and broke up before the resurgence. And I think their music -- as awesome as it is -- would only have limited interest, so lathe cutting a small run for fans would be great.
Wow the band and the record sound really good! If I was to press something, it’d be the hip-hop album that my friends and I made back in high school. I have a lot of great memories attached to just messing around and recording whatever dumb ideas we had. Would love to get a physical copy of that to commemorate those days!
Really wish there was an option like this for albums in an artist’s discography that for some reason or another didn’t get a vinyl pressing... I’d love to get a copy of Pines by a Fine Frenzy. Her other three releases have been pressed
I would love to press Wildebeest - Motion and Language. I don't think it was ever on a label. And the artist only ever sold them as burned CDs. I don't even know where my old copy is but I still have it digitally.
I’d really like to get a copy of a music project a friend and I are working on. I was literally just looking for lathe cut options last night and from what you’ve said, I’ll definitely go with tangible formats.
@@strappingonthatjammypac5933 Congrats, dude! The random generator has picked you, you are the winner of the Centralside lathe! Email me toomanyrecordsmusic (at) gmail and we can figure out shipping!
Gotta get that lathe cut copy of CentralSide - Priorities!!! Best idea for a project I’ve ever heard! Nothing like spinning the songs of an entire generation of NJ kids.
Well, well, well... how about The National B sides and Rarities, that you were working on late last year with the other company (I am not sure if I should say the name of the company). But it seems that this could be a great opportunity for this project to see the light, and I would be extremely happy to get one of those. It would be awesome!!!
That’s so awesome! I’ve been looking at lathe cuts but was a bit hesitant until now! Will definitely be getting some done of my own music to give to my family 👍🏻
Wow! Had no idea this existed! I would love a copy of the record my friend's band created back in college. So many memories of watching them play in small clubs.
RE: tangible formats. I'm currently drawing up a business plan for a wholly employee owned pressing plant and so basically I wanna press good artists who share good values. For one-offs? I wanna press my friend's music they only post to bandcamp.
Awesome video! The band is pretty good they sound like the 2000's bands I used to listen to they had much potential. And as for what my dream pressing would be I think I'd get some of my own music I made on the guitar pressed.
Hi. Great video and an eye opener too... not so much about lathe cutting, because it’s like every manufacture some people are just killers at their craft, but in showing an alternative to « normal » press plants. Now for the music, the band is great and, being in France, I would have been unlikely to have the opportunity to listen to them shouldn’t have it been through your post. If I was to use this process, I would track the masters of a Californian singer/songwriter named Thom Moore and put that on wax. If I had a personnal project it would be to re-record and release the actual zulu chants from the Stanley Barker/Cy Endfield film called Zulu. Thank you. Peace from France- Patrick
As an artist, I have had numerous lathe cuts made over the past 10 years. I have used different companies from all over the world. Basically, I wasn't impressed with any of them. My fans were not impressed either. Just speaking from my own experiences. I actually ended up investing into pressed vinyl. Did a few albums and a couple 12" singles that way. Yes, it can be expensive but if you offer your fans the preorder option then use those funds towards the release . But i am curious about this company youre talking about. I may look into them due to your word
Great Video and great sound!I Was looking for a video about making a private press.I have a few favorite cassettes from the past id love to turn into vinyls!
This is great news! as a super small independent "vinyl only" label, (Jamille Records) I look forward to releasing limited runs of 25 to 50 copies of a project. thanks for the vid!
What are the legalities around the source material? I assume you couldn’t get them to cut an album from a major label that was only released on CD without permissions, correct? If I could, there are definitely some albums I would love to have made, though. Some old house music from Cafe Del Mar that never was pressed on vinyl comes to mind.
Cafe Del Mar comps are awesome! In terms of legality, you'd have to talk to them directly. If you have permission and it's not on a major label, or you own the music, shouldn't be an issue :)
Awesome video!! Wow they sound awesome! I wish I had talented friends who had a band so that they could get their record cut by them. Count me in for the giveaway! Peace.
Now everyone is going want this band to put this out! I don't know if you can do stuff that is in a label, but if I can I would press Mars Volta Deloused and Hum YPAN so I can stop looking with $900 on stand by!
My dream pressing would be "For The Lovers Of Sights And Sounds" by Horizontal Orange. They were a band from my local scene that I wish had made it big. They sounded like Every Time I Die or Memphis May Fire.
@@TooManyRecords they have given me permission, they even let me put the album on spotify lol, getting vinyl pressed for it is the pipe dream I'd love to see realized tho lol
I have a few local bands that I am a fan of that never pressed their music to vinyl. Would love to have Tangible Formats make a few one off 7" or LPs I can gift to them plus keep one for myself. I'll check out their website now. Centralside sounds like a great band too that should have stuck with it!
@@TooManyRecords cool thanks Matt! does he do them on clear lathe cut? Black is fine but i like the clear. Or would he do say 5 of the, (3 clear 2 black). I'm on the site now and looking at having them press a local Philly band that's been around since 1998. I used to intern at 94WYSP in Philly (when they were a rock station) and we played this band all the time. It would be cool to have the regular version on 1 side and the acoustic version on the other and present to them as gifts.
That's awesome... loved watching that especially that short behind the scenes segment as well. I'd love to have a lathe cut done ... though I currently have no idea what I'd have put on it!
Too Many Records Not sure. I asked though! I shall await their response. Although I’m a little nervous cause they said this is in the product description: “may have slightly more surface noise (due to static build up and dust) or an occasional light distortion in some frequencies, but they sound pretty nice given the circumstances.” Hoping that’s not a bad thing considering I’ve never bought from this label before which is WAR Records.
The Centralside vinyl really did sound amazing; will have to keep the Tangible Formats name for future ref. As for me, not so much tunes, but I have some audio of Philip K. Dick and Alan Watts (not together, unfortunately) that I wouldn't mind having on vinyl, since it would just be for me, and not for sale.
If I could. I’d probably press the EP I recorded with a band I was in about 8 years ago called Venus Descends - it wasn’t great. But those tune are nostalgic for me.
Bring em to life in a new way. The Centralside album was recorded by a bunch of high schoolers and when I showed the singer the quality of the lathe he said that he's shocked at how good it sounds in the mix.
Knowing you can lathe cut a record of high quality makes me want to create a killer jazz fusion progressive/loaded vocal harmonies/easy listening record . I want to create a record to help people escape this crazy time we are ALL going through .
I would press the sole release titled Blackouts of an indie pop band from Toronto called Debaser, really cool sound that would be even cooler on a physical format.
Don't diss the Lathe! I have some music that I have quietly been working on so I would just muster up the courage to record and mix it to put it on wax. Do they do 7" records or is it all 12"? I would totally do a two song thing for a 7" just to say I made something on wax haha. I don't have a situation like you do or others in the comments. If I did I would totally be letting them know about this so they could have records cut! Informative and I love that you were able to actually demonstrate the quality!
Very interesting video, Matt! Cool to hear about companies doing great lathe work. Glad to see you got the album pressed after gauging opinions back a couple of months ago. Would love to have the other copy! Fingers-crossed! If I'm not lucky enough, I'll get their CD or download off of Bandcamp. I would love to see a friend's jazz album be pressed to vinyl. His name is Gary Meek and the album is called Originals. Came out in 2018. A great jazz record! I know you are not much into jazz, but I think he is worth checking out.
Congrats Nate DeCraene for winning the lathe cut!! The random generator shines brightly on you :)

I'm sure that if you send a sample over to them, they can definitely give you a good idea!
Hi! I only have my music on MP3 would they take that?
Wow, talk about the right video at the right time! I co-wrote my first musical over the last couple of years - coincidentally, also the period when I fell in love with vinyl - and have been scoping out different ways to preserve our work as a "cast recording", something tangible for us to hang onto. We have plans to get everything streaming eventually, but I'd really love to press it on vinyl. The main issue has been getting around the minimum order requirement. This seems like it could be the way - thanks again!
That's so cool. What a fun keepsake for the cast. The cover could be everyone bowing at the end!
That record sounded so good!
I have an album which my brother's friend made, he shared it with his close friend and I enjoy listening it on my iPod once in a while, will definitely give tangible formats a try.
Informative video as always.
This would be the perfect way to get that thing on your turntable.
That sounded great, I would totally get that if it becomes a tmr release. If I was going to get one it’d be of my dad and uncle, they used to play guitar together and sing old Mexican folk songs
Lots of people are saying that... might have to consider it down the road.
@too many records 10x 12inch records at 50 bucks a record is hardly affordable. Granted they’re small run/batches/whatever.. but still way too pricey.
Tell Wesley I sent ya! He's such a good dude.
Reach out to him! I'm sure he'd be down for you to make a personal copy.
@@TooManyRecords Will do! Now that I know about this awesome place to do so!
The quality of your videos has improved so much over the last months. Great content!
I have some cassettes from high school of some rehearsals and jams with friends that would be cool to have on a lathe cut. Also, an interview with my grandfather on cassette who died around 86 that would be very cool on a lathe cut. Thanks, Charles
I'm loving this interview idea everyone has.
I love black 47. Nobody I know has ever heard of them.
Wow the band and the record sound really good! If I was to press something, it’d be the hip-hop album that my friends and I made back in high school. I have a lot of great memories attached to just messing around and recording whatever dumb ideas we had. Would love to get a physical copy of that to commemorate those days!
Dude, do it! I love this.
Too Many Records Thanks! I might have to now.
How long did it take for the record to be delivered to you? awesome video man.
Really wish there was an option like this for albums in an artist’s discography that for some reason or another didn’t get a vinyl pressing... I’d love to get a copy of Pines by a Fine Frenzy. Her other three releases have been pressed
So glad we got our cutter from Master Souri! Most insane device ever. We used tangible for 4 years before getting our cutter. S/O to Richard!
I would love to press Wildebeest - Motion and Language. I don't think it was ever on a label. And the artist only ever sold them as burned CDs. I don't even know where my old copy is but I still have it digitally.
Honestly, I'd love to have "The Trail Builder's" EP on vinyl. He's a mountain biking UA-camr that also makes music and it's legitimately fantastic.
Another quality video. Would love to try a copy out on my table to hear this for myself and maybe get an album or two made
I promise that if you get one and hear it you will be converted!
I’d really like to get a copy of a music project a friend and I are working on. I was literally just looking for lathe cut options last night and from what you’ve said, I’ll definitely go with tangible formats.
It's easily the best option I've found, all around. What kind of project is it?
Too Many Records It’s an Industrial rock album with lyrics focused on salad recipes.
@@strappingonthatjammypac5933 incredible
@@strappingonthatjammypac5933 Congrats, dude! The random generator has picked you, you are the winner of the Centralside lathe! Email me toomanyrecordsmusic (at) gmail and we can figure out shipping!
Gotta get that lathe cut copy of CentralSide - Priorities!!! Best idea for a project I’ve ever heard! Nothing like spinning the songs of an entire generation of NJ kids.
#FireEscapeChampions
Well, well, well... how about The National B sides and Rarities, that you were working on late last year with the other company (I am not sure if I should say the name of the company). But it seems that this could be a great opportunity for this project to see the light, and I would be extremely happy to get one of those. It would be awesome!!!
Definitely something to consider... ;)
That’s so awesome! I’ve been looking at lathe cuts but was a bit hesitant until now! Will definitely be getting some done of my own music to give to my family 👍🏻
Fantastic. TF guys will treat you well.
Great sound! I have a couple of family recordings that I would love to press on vinyl!
This is an ideal pairing!
Wow! Had no idea this existed! I would love a copy of the record my friend's band created back in college. So many memories of watching them play in small clubs.
If you have the audio, the only limitation is you!! :P
And as for what my dream pressing would be
I think I'd get some of my own music I made on the guitar pressed.
I think that's a lovely idea.
@@TooManyRecords thanks😄
Do it! When he masters the music for vinyl it'll be like hearing it again for the first time.
This is great news! as a super small independent "vinyl only" label, (Jamille Records) I look forward to releasing limited runs of 25 to 50 copies of a project. thanks for the vid!
Great. I'll always wanted to have pressed live music that recorded by myself back in the 90's
That’s awesome. What artists?
I’d love to make a pressing of my friend band from school, the drakes, indie band that could have gone far!
Maybe this will be the inspiration to get them to pick up the axe and skins again!
That’s so awesome! I would so make one for my own music so I could listen to my stuff on vinyl, that would be such weird flex!
Nothing is stopping you! :)
Id like to press audio of myself doing stand up in my schools locker room
ID press the soundtrack to the 80s skateboarding movie Thrashin' which never got a release but has a rad soundtrack. This centalside stuff is good
My dream pressing would be "For The Lovers Of Sights And Sounds" by Horizontal Orange. They were a band from my local scene that I wish had made it big. They sounded like Every Time I Die or Memphis May Fire.
Shoot em a message, I'm sure they wouldn't mind!
@@TooManyRecords they have given me permission, they even let me put the album on spotify lol, getting vinyl pressed for it is the pipe dream I'd love to see realized tho lol
what is the name of the company that made the vinal?
This service seems amazing being from a small city in Canada I got tons of local stuff that deserves to be on vinyl
I have a few local bands that I am a fan of that never pressed their music to vinyl. Would love to have Tangible Formats make a few one off 7" or LPs I can gift to them plus keep one for myself. I'll check out their website now. Centralside sounds like a great band too that should have stuck with it!
7"s are one of TF's specialities. Best bang for your buck too on multiples, I'd say.
I just pre-ordered a lathe cut vinyl from LA-HC band TERROR. This is what led me to this video.
Nice! Where was theirs pressed?
Too Many Records Not sure. I asked though! I shall await their response. Although I’m a little nervous cause they said this is in the product description: “may have slightly more surface noise (due to static build up and dust) or an occasional light distortion in some frequencies, but they sound pretty nice given the circumstances.” Hoping that’s not a bad thing considering I’ve never bought from this label before which is WAR Records.
@@talon-roenickbeauchamp4447 That sounds like it might be using a cheaper lathe cut company :(
I would want to press my own releases/tunes when I decide to do so! That record sounds killer man! All the best!
You're a talented guy, man! I hope you do.
It sounds like this would be a perfect fit, man.
My son has a band and I'm definitely gonna check about getting some copies. Thanks for the chance to win
I would press a comp of some sort I have always had a thing for a good compilation of music with both deep cuts and hits
I would use Tangible Formats to press my brother’s band’s album Highs and Lows by Jillian Somera and the Beta Option on short run
Knowing you can lathe cut a record of high quality makes me want to create a killer jazz fusion progressive/loaded vocal harmonies/easy listening record . I want to create a record to help people escape this crazy time we are ALL going through .
Do it, J-man! You're our only hope!
A dream would be to make some cool rare vaporwave songs on vinyl
I think it was you that mentioned faulconer DBZ music on the Anime on LP page recently. I definitely would like The Enigma TNGs cover of that music
Would be awesome!
Me too!! So rare to get to do that on here lol
@@TooManyRecords Sounds awesome too you were right on had they kept going they would be amazing! Not that they don't sound it here LOL
Would like to have a band from where I grew up pressed. N.I.L.8 Would also make for some great TMR releases.
❤they did 7 inch singles for a few of my artists. They were super prestigious. No other 7 inch record stand out like the records I got from tangible.
