Exclusively catch cup for a week is truly one of the Niantic moments of all time
I think you have to do it exclusively. The goal is to make people play other pokemon outside of the norm. It's a really awkward format. Making people wait on level up pokemon is dumb. It feels like a great format to be in the game. Yet having it near the end of the season is wild.
they definitely need to run another cup along with catch cup cause its too late in the season in my opinion to spend any stardust on anything new

I caught a galarian articuno with solid ivs for this catch cup and it got wrecked. I don’t have enough options to make him viable but dammit it’s spicy lol
It’s not even a themed cup. It’s so stupid. Basically just Niantic saying hey, why don’t you go ahead and waste a bunch of resources for me so you can play GBL

I have been running golbat, galarian pancake landfish, and jellicent. Thoughts on this team? I struggle with Lanturns which is the biggest flaw imo.

I understand the hate, but I'm enjoying it. I'm running Jellicent/Gligar/Steelix. Also, you can use the Pokemon that you hatched this season.

I’ve actually had some pretty decent success with Arctibax lead, Jellicent safe swap (w/ bubblebeam, not surf), and Gligar to close.
Skarmory, scrafty and Medicham got me to veteran yesterday in this cup, which I have never gotten before. Been close, but never reached veteran until now.
I only spent 70k stardust to level up and double move a 2/14/15 iv lanturn I caught last week. If it wasnt for the lanturn I'd probably struggle a bit more this catch cup.
I basically lagged too at 1 hp Pidgeott clicking brave bird orbs vs a yellow HP Gligar.... would it K.O?

The should do gen cups early in the season. Like Kanto cup for the memes of more love to charizard.
I hope they keep Breaking Swipe as is. Its annoying on Steelix...but it makes Pokemon like Rayquaza viable in Master League and allows it to live up to its status as a legendary

I like the catch cup because it forces me to use new Pokémon. Hate the catch cup because I have only one meta team, which I formed a year ago. I’m still gonna battle though, I like the booms
I've been using [S] Golbat, [S] Quagsire, and [S] Whiscash. Quagsire is my safe swap, and Whiscash is the closure, though Golbat has had to close a few times, too. Gained 300 elo so far, but you gotta be careful with all the new Trailblazers.
My opinion is... the issue is not the fact that Niantic chooses to do catch cup the last week or second to last week, the issue is that they make it so incredibly difficult to power up pokemon to begin with. The catch cup allows some newer/ not as advanced pvp players to compete a bit easier for a week, but this is an issue in the long run. What Niantic should do it something along the lines of allowing new players to power up their Pokes and get moves in this week very easily. Hopefully, if they do this, it will allow players to get competitive Pokes much more easily. I have been in and out of competitive pokemon scene in Ptcg, VGC and smogon since about 2007. Every game, card game, etc has made it easier to make a comp team. Except for PoGo which makes it more difficult every season, for literally every season. I have a ton more to say, but who cares about my opinion?
For me I like the catch cup because there aren't too many people with Meta Pokemons with 500K stardust, although I won against a Gligar, Medicham and Carbink team with my Hypno, Greedent and Pelipper
I had only a few pokemon leveled up. So I gave it a try. Steelix gligar chargabug. Went from 2200 to 2500 in 2 days.

Unpopular opinion, but I love Catch Cup. I just hit Legend for the 3rd season in a row thanks to it, I would probably have never done it without this cup. Every season I will get a few pokemon that are good and meta with good IVs that I would end up making anyway, and there's also the mons from the Community Days, so I don't see it as that expensive. You don't need to run an ultra meta team to win. And it's a good opportunity to see a different meta, instead of the repetitive open Great and Ultra Leagues. I hope Niantic keeps it, maybe just along with some other one for those who don't like it.

I think the purpose of the catch cup is to get trainers to spend stardust on new mons that way when you get your stardust at the end of the season it’s almost just replacing what you spent.
That & trying to get people to go outside and catch Pokemon
So while yes that's true. The main thing is making an environment for new players being able to get into pvp. It's a drug. You start and you can't stop.

I was playing catch cup and got tired of seeing all of the clodsire, so I built this rank 8 swampert I caught this season(had one built already with worse IVs) and started hydro cannoning them in the face gained 200 + elo
I'm trying to push from vat to expert and people running azu medi gligar Aslash all meta in catch cup
A-Sandslash dominates this meta, and this team is a prime example

If anyone needs a catch cup team, I’ve been running Peliper, clod, Quag and it has worked extremely well for me

Catch cup is a mixed bag for me it sucks if you don't have another team good for it & it's crazy using stardust to basically to "start again" a new team 😂 good maybe for new pokemon to shine

Ideally. But in reality, half the players still have meta relevant pokes. Just played a few sets and there are plenty of players with maxed out Sableyes and Medichams 😔

I'm sure I am in the minority, but as a newer player, it's been fun this week to play against opponents who can't use all of their best meta pokemon that I did not have access to either. I totally get it being annoying as a veteran making a final push at the end of the season.
I like catch cup i dont like running meta mons. Let me have some fun change it up. Helped me go up a lot of elos....... sadly cant get veteran got all the way up to 2447 and fell apart after
These days I just do gbl and events like com days. I barely have anything of note for catch cup and don’t have the resources to burn anyway.
Vivillon has nuke moves I use my XL one in the ultra league

Sadly I won't be playing catch cup, I've climbed from 2300's to 2800's since playing ultra league so can't risk dropping elo 🙃

yea im sorry but breaking swipe needs to be nerfed to match the other moves in the same catergory. either keep the damage and make it a "chance to" move or nuke the damage and guarantee the debuff. its a broken move right now. moderate damage, low cost, guaranteed debuff. one of those needs to go.
This was already my least favorite cup even more so now with charged TMs being harder to come by.

I fought my way up to 2700 in the Ultraleague. Finally have a good team for it and knew the match ups well. Then this shit cup got be down to 2600 again 😂 not going to touch it

I am back playing after last season just playing once go battle weekend, and this time I also playing catch cup.
When you reached your goals it is a good chance to play some not meta teams
I play with Quagsire, Skeledirge and Charizard ... it is not so good, when the opponent has Pelipper it is hardcore to win, but it is still a bit fun and I will just use Pokemon I don't have yet and in future I can use too, or that are cheap like Skeledirge
Nah catch cup isn’t it. It should be classic or remix format imo. The extra dust is too much of an incentive to pass up, but the whales make it tough to get too into it.

Catch cup is my favorite meta so far. I've only been playing since February of this year so finally I can win on skill and not lose to someone who plays the worst I've ever seen to only reverse sweep me with a armored Mewtwo.
