My favorite directive is almost non-directive. I show them the different sand trays I have in the room, the miniatures, and sand toys (buckets, shovels, rakes, funnels, etc.) and then encourage them to explore the materials as they would like. Some of my clients, especially those who have been abused, seem to be afraid of "doing the wrong thing" and are reluctant to try new things unless they have been given some reassurance. In those cases, I tell them that as long as they are safe, there is no right or wrong way to use the sand, that each person uses the sand in different ways depending on what they feel like doing that day. After that, I simply follow the child's lead. Only if the client seems to need some ideas will I offer some suggestions. I would like to receive the list of directives I could use in those situations.
Just finding this video. I'm in grad school and we are practicing sand trays today and tomorrow with classmates. I would love any info you can share. We did a quick trial last night and it was incredible how it got right to the heart of things with my classmate.
I haven't had any issues introducing it to adults so far, I introduce it right after mindfulness breathing exercises and explain that touching the sand also helps in grounding, mental and physical self-awareness, and after gradually in several sessions introduce natural materials then the figurines, works for me . The adults love the feeling of the soft sand after the mindful breathing exercises.
As a client, its embarrassment because I'm supposed to be a strong man, not a child. I should be able to talk about and face traumas, and not have to resort to toys.
I would love this script as well. Brand new to sandtray therapy w/ EMDR

I have introduced it to my clients who are students and they get it. Once they get into the sand, it's a buy in.
I am completely new to sand tray and still learning to introduce it. I would love the script.
Gathering information on using sandtray with adults and hoping it's not too late to ask for a script.

I have not introduced sand to my adult clients. It is probably due to me being nervous about their reaction. I think your script would be so helpful.
I would love the script please. Id like to have the confidence to introduce sandyray therapy x
