    Like all your customers, this person is damn lucky to have you working on their amp. You not only fix it, you restore it to what it once was. Outstanding!

    Nice work as always Lyle. I noticed later in the video you replaced those fugly white, waving in the air, wire wound resistors with high quality round ones, that have plenty of distance above the PC board for cooling and don't wave around.

    I like the way this PCB looks. Nice and organized. Seems like a quality PCB.

    Lyle you got your hands full with this one. At least it will be done correctly and the owner should appreciate your hard work.

      Yes Lyle does not sound very enthusiastic as he is working either probably in disappointment from the condition of the amp as a while

    Definitely not made by Hylite, must be a Biacrown. When Hiwatt changed hands, you can definitely see the massive quality drop.

      It's probably an Audio Brothers. I have an 81 Biacrown and a 77 Hylight model of this amp and this one isn't like either of those. The Biacrown that I have is a single PCB.

    Hello Lyle, do you have any tips on how to get experience with amp repairs? I've build, modded and repaired a couple of amps during the last few years and to my suprise always succeded in the end. So far I only work for friends and I hesitate to offer my service to everyone because of my lack of experience. How can I progress?

    I'm clueless, so please excuse this question if it's dumb. 🙂 But adding the bias trim pot, will that allow you to use different tubes if you wanted to? Like el34, 6l6, kt66-77-88, etc... Also to adjust the bias as components drift?

      Yup!

      @@PsionicAudio Why would they make it any other way? Simply because the bias pot would add a few dollars to the BOP?

    Why’d you add turrets for those black high watt resistors?

      I didn’t. They were already there.

    Why grounding lugs instead of soldering directly to the chassis?

    • @siriusamplification
      @siriusamplification Місяць тому

      because that isn't allowed to electrical code standards for about 50 years.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Місяць тому +2

      I only do that on vintage Fenders and a few others that were done that way originally.

      Properly crimped, star washered, and torqued down lug connections are more reliable and vibration resistant. (Every earth bond on planes and trains is done this way).
      Soldering creates a brittle point in the wire, especially with prolonged heat input.

    If all the upgrades that you and other quality Amp Techs make upon the various amps, why wouldn’t the factory make the changes? Seems logical to me.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Місяць тому +4

      Well, in this case I’m reverting to what this model was before the CA version of HiWatt made changes.
      So they’re the ones who modded it - I’m the one putting it back.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Місяць тому +1

      Well, aside from the bias pot, a no-brainer addition.
