In this episode of Painting Masters I review works by Sergey Temerev, an incredibly talented watercolor painter, who specializes in painting intense skies and seas.
This is a great example of an artist pushing the medium to its fullest potential (wet-on-wet, dry brush movement and flow), and I personally gained so much inspiration from his work.
You can find a FULL painting process of his here 😍

Love love love Sergey Temperev's work. Absolutely god sent. I had not seen that last painting before. So incredibly beautiful. One of the things for me about that painting is the 3D effect he achieves with it, to the point when I initially seen it I thought that is an oil painting. He achieves this with the paintings where he does big bulbous clouds, but in this painting it feels like it's magnified due to the use of colour and light. Just love it. ❤
I learned about Temerev here.... man I'm glad that I did. I can't wait to try some of his cloud ideas. Thank you for posting these.
This video was a joy to watch. I enjoy also your appreciation of the execution of the painting
The effects are more as in oil painting.. The brush strokes can be seen clearly... Lovely work... Thanks for sharing
That last painting is awe inspiring. I don't even know how to begin looking at it let alone painting a study of it!
Yes they are truly amazing. Thank you. One tip I tried for yellow/ blue sunset scenes - WN Naples Yellow and French Ultramarine do not create green when they come in close proximity. I tried it and it worked. Not sure if it is the same for other brands. Hope this is helpful.
That last one is gorgeous!!!
His skies are jaw dropping
He paints his sky/clouds as intimately as if he is painting a portrait. He is amazing! Thank you!
Thank you for introducing us to this phenomenal painter of clouds. A remarkable artist indeed! Your descriptions are very helpful in pointing out aspects and how they might be achieved.
Beautiful clouds emitting moods.Bravo
My grandpa was from Russia, in America he took his love of painting into earning a living from sign painting. He painted a round nstill life of flowers that my sister kept, that has been in my minds heart for 61 years since he passed. I wish he lived longer. In all my art I find Russian artists way above the natural world.
Thanks Liron! I don't think I would have ever seen so many great paintings without your channel.
I just can't imagine how he is able to create these effects with watercolor. Thanks for linking to his channel. I'm eager to see how he does it. Thanks Liron.
I have never told before but I LOVE this series of yours, you widen our scope so much. This artist is also awesome! Thank you.
I think you are such a talented artist, but your modesty regarding your own art is so endearing. I hope you stay safe and well. Keep creating and teaching us, your loyal fans. 😊
Wow! Thank you for the tips and call outs and for introducing me to this artist. Great inspiration.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful watercolor paintings. I have to see how he does this!
I have never seen such spectacular skies in watercolour. Genius! Thanks Liron.
There is only one appropriate word for Temerev's paintings: heavenly!
Indeed 😊
Wow what an amazing video. I am overwhelmed as a beginner :D Off to learn through more of your videos now.
I love how you analyse and talk about the strengths of the artists, you have such an insight that is sadly missed by many ( in my humble opinion), you're doing a great job. I am experimenting with watercolour so will certainly have a go at skies and will research Sergey Temerev . You're a star!
Great paintigs. thanks for showing us the work of fine artists.
Wow, first time I’ve seen this artist. I’ve been painting with watercolor for over a decade but feel like a beginner when seeing his work.
Spectacular painting, so inspirational. Really utilises the unique magic of watercolours. Thank you for sharing these with your knowledge and enthusiasm, much appreciated
Wow! Gorgeous skies!
OMG! Sergy is AMAZING! I thought the thumbnail was an oil painting because there’s no way that can be watercolor! Simply in awe! 😳
Excelente Liron !!! gracias por este video. ! La ultima obra es INCREIBLE !! no me canso de verla una y otra vez !! Gracias por tus videos !! ISabel
Thankyou you so much for introducing me to artists i had never heard of 🙏🏻 please keep doing this your commentary is so so useful in thinking about technique different ways of expression
Fantastic!
Thanks so much for sharing these spectacular paintings!
Love it!!
Great analysis and thanks for introducing me to Sergey Temerev's work... This guy definitely knows what he's doing :)
Excellent! Very interesting video and beautiful skies!! Looking forward to your videos on recreating studies similar to Sergey's! I will keep my eye out. I am studying skies at the moment with my art tutor so it will be very interesting to see more sky studies!
He’s incredible! I’ll try to perhaps do a study based on his work soon! 😁🙏🏼🙏🏼
Magnificent! Thank you for putting this together.
great video, you have introduced me to alot of great artist
Been following this guy for a while now ... he is RIDICULOUS
Very interesting. Thank you 😊
Wow! Love those skies!
Very good .Like you show me practice Thak you
Thank you fantastic - looking forward to giving it a go,,,,!,
Amazing skies
Most artists neglect skies or create clouds that look like cotton balls. I think you can have a spectacular sky and another focus of attention. It creates a stunning painting.
So very true! I really dislike cotton ball skies sometimes, it’s such a missed opportunity. I could definitely improve my skies
terrific paintings
I may be missing the link to Temerev’s channel, have you included it? I LOVE YOUR WORK

A top cloud master, his technique is based on stretching colors or dry technique - single-layer, dry brush, but he is already at the end of his career like Zbukvich, in my opinion cityscapes are convincingly the most difficult to paint, especially if the English style is done in several layers. and more water, and certainly in this is by far the best D. Djukaric master of detail and atmosphere as' since he brought watercolor to the highest degree and is younger than Temerevo, Zbukvich 20 and a fraction of a year and taking his progress in a very short time. .. simply put, live his watercolors look timeless, who understands a little about watercolor, his technique is absolutely unique, he is more bored with those biennials, competitions, etc., the only drawback is that his paintings are very, very expensive, but to be worse sales he is doing great.Huawei company chose what will adorn their main meeting room between Zbukvich, Alvar, Temerevo, Djukaric and Thomas Shaller and chose 10 Djukaric paintings. They are all great masters and hats off and the only one left is. Chen but his paintings have no poetics agreed with me or it is not known who I am the father of this medium. Your paintings are not bad either👍, I often compare them with my child's watercolors and sometimes I argue with my wife whose they are better😉
Hi could you please help me find a FULL painting process of the last painting.
He is a master!
Hi, what is your advise to obtain the same result as Temerev? Any exercice or try to propose?
Paint for hours and hours 😛 And I would actually practice clouds specifically! It’s a great subject to work on - especially for developing the ability to see things as abstract shapes (:
@@LironYan Hi, Liron, I still count to learn and see how other artists are doing, untill I find the way I can appropriate and become good in. However, I keep on mind that most of all big artists had a good teacher, and then, working, some became bether than their teachers. Without learning I can search all my life without find THE good technic... So I continue working but do not let down the researsh of a good teacher... I have been painting all my life like a hoby, without searching any technics etc. But I was working with oil colors and did not run after any goal... Now, I am working with watercolor, and in a plus, I have a challenge : skies, clouds, water... Have a good chance! If I find something as a technic good to make, I'll tell you... Have a nice day! Bye!
WOW
I think there is another person's work that is interesting which is a wet-on-wet technique "Watercolor Kanta Harusaki & Yoko Harusaki" But I like Sergey Temperev more.
Interesting - will definitely give it a look 🙏😊 Thank you
Thank you! Great share!
TURNER LIKE SOME GREAT WORK THERE, THANKS
I THINK ANYONE CAN LEARN TO PAINT AT A VERY GOOD LEVEL.... BUT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO NATURALLY EXCEL AT THEM AND CAN REACH A HIGHER LEVEL. EVEN IF TWO PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PAINTING TIME SPENT .... SOME PEOPLE HAVE A NATURAL GIFT TOWARDS THEM.
What kind of paint brands do you like?, because mine are reeves, and i don't know, i'm only a beginner, but the colours seem kind of cheap.
before I see the video I know you are talented 😍❤
How many layers do think he applies to get those cloud effects? I find real easy to overwork scenes like this.
Honestly I think it's just one layer (: Lot's of charging wet-in-wet.
Check out the link to his other video in the description to see him rendering clouds - it's pretty amazing!
Liiron, your right, Sergey Temerev is a merical worker with watercolors.Where is he from? does he have any books out? T hanks for sharing him with u s peeons! I found out you can get that soft effect by using Illustration board, and lightly wetting it, then Preplaned" drop your colors in, but the paper is unforgiving as far as correcting any mistakes, "it buckels I
He is from Russia, this is his facebook - facebook.com/sergey.temerev.watercolor
Hi, Liron! Thank you for your work! May be you will be intersted in another russian watercolor painter: Elena Bazanova. Her works are mostly realistic still life, but very beautiful and inspirational too=)
Unbelievably good works!
I know this is an old video, but I can't find that super bright sky in color like that. I found the original and it's very natural. It's not in those bright colors. I think it was edited 😔
Interesting, I found it just like that. Perhaps there are multiple edited versions of it online
The only difference is that the kid is doing impressionism and your direction is a UFO😂😂😂
I’ve never been satisfied with the slapdash “wet the paper, throw down the blue, tissue out some clouds and your good” attitude about skies. I tracked down a couple of videos where he demonstrates, I don’t quite understand how he gets such a long time to work, my paper would dry out instantly, and when he sprays, it’s hard to see what he’s doing. It’s interesting how he uses painting the negative space as a big part of getting these separate clouds with bright borders.
genial
I gave same comment earlier, you talk too much... you repeat the same thing over and over again to make the video long (probably for youtube reasons)... please don't say for me personally a lot, I think you have the required talent to analyze paintings and share good ideas etc. Don't make it about yourself, and make it more about the subject with confidence.
