This is just amazing on what you learn on this channel. Who knew all that on keeping a horses teeth in great shape for whatever it might be involved in. I had no idea that horses had baby teeth. Being not a horse person this is all so amazing to watch. She really knows her stuff all the way around and explains it so well on what she is doing and why she is doing it. Looking forward to part 2.
Great video Jason It took me about 25 years before I learned how important it is to take care of my horses teeth. I am lucky to have a good vet locally that it great with teeth.
Equine dentistry has always fascinated me. I am lucky to have an equine dentist that has taught many of the equine dentists of today in the Idaho school. He has flown all over and worked on many of the top horses of our industry.
I always emphasize incisor work, incisor work, incisor work! If those aren't ground down and leveled then you will always have problems. I have seen vets mechanically "float" teeth and never touch the incisors. If you are going to go to a mechanical level you better do it all.
Your girl knows her stuff. Send her out to CA for us horse folks. We barely have anyone good.

I’ve been on 2 horses in my 60 years and neither one ended well for me, so needless to say I’m not a horse person, but I love everything about the ranch life and this was one of your best videos and you’ve done a bunch of great videos!!

Same. We are in the East Bay of CA. I am lucky enough to have a semi-retired equine dentist that lives in my town that will come out for me. He is truly the O.G. of equine dentists.

This was so interesting to me! As I worked 8 - 5 job, I would drop my boy off at the vet (who I trusted explicitly) for full checkup, coggins, vaccines, float - the works ... He would give me a full written report. But, I have never seen it actually done! This year I'm going to a new vet in Arapaho (mine retired) to get everything done ... But this time I will be able to stay and watch (I'm almost retired!) Thanks for the info! now I know what to expect.

The problem with feeding on the ground is the horse picks up parasites when it eats. Fighting parasites is a hard fight, and the ground adds to the problem.
If you put mats down then it shouldn't be an issue. Also if feeding in a large area and you rotate their feeding areas it keeps the manure down. I feel that however you can feed that keeps their head down is way better. Their sinuses drain properly, their chewing lines up correctly and they are just healthier.
Parasites are found in baled hay as well as grass in our pastures. We worm our horses multiple times throughout the year.

lm surprised the young lady grinding the horses teeth doesnt wear protective glasses , dust n pieces of teeth l imagine could damage the delicate eyes ... maybe lm wrong in my thoughts !
It is a problem sometimes, I’ve tried wearing glasses but they get too dirty and I can’t see properly.. hazards of the job!
@@long_gone24 l understand , hard to do the cleaning and protect yourself , thankyou for reply to my question , lm a veterinarian so l see the problems , perhaps a visor would be better than safety glasses ... personly l think you know what your doing and know the risks , lm from the uk , l can see you do the floating properly , l would certainly recommend you to my customers !

Without dental/medical treatment we ALL die younger. Horses, dogs and HUMANS….duh. Compare wild life expectancy to ‘civilized’ life expectancy
And remember to floss! It’s good for your heart!
