Brent is back! He was on the channel before in our first ever Apocalypse game. With 4000 points of Tyranids at his command he looks to utterly destroy Tak's Ultramarines. The parameters of the mission are simple. Kill everything!

Imagining a thin line of space marines vs hordes of tyranids that goes on for miles is the epitome of what 40k is. Amazing battle report all around! Good job on everyone’s part!
Especially for the sons of Ultramar vs the Nids themselves!
instead of a thin red line making a military stand, it is a thin blue line making a last stand against bugs
@@LukePaganoRotaryWall42087 Starship Troopers *Intensifies*
Agreed. This one was fun to watch.
I mean, kinda. Marines also have massive air support and heavy weapons. They aren't some struggling army trying to survive. They are every bit the belligerent that other races are.
23:10 The problem is calling them MISSiles. You have to call them rockets, frag, krak, etc. If you call them missiles, they miss. It is what they do.
Crit-iles , Hit-iles or my favorite ... re roll all misses - iles
some serious ork mentality
You should just call them "hitkills"
@@ClandestineSnowman Skaven-strong swift-fast hit-kills, yes-yes
@@ClandestineSnowman I like that. I'm going to use that for all weapons now.
Definitely one of those "everyone who played won" kinda games. Way to go guys!
I thought so. This was a dream come true to play in a narrative game, on a beautiful board, with a great opponent. I've lucked out because last year it was the battle in the clouds.
WH40K is actually better served as a social game, so if you have fun, you won anyway.
@@simonwong6457 Its what it was made for that's why.
everyone but their wallets
So long as the most important rule - have fun - is observed, everyone who plays wins.
I watched my brothers die around me. The scouts fell quickly, and after that we held them back for a precious moment, but they washed over us as their greatest beasts arrived. Fire poured over the trenches from both sides. I see death coming, yet I am not afraid. In the face of their terrible fangs and claws, I am at peace for the first time I can remember. I have served the Emperor well, and brought honor to my Chapter. I only wish I could've seen how it ended... but perhaps this is for the best.
This is from that one Aggressor who tanked all that stuff
@@ethanfrields7050 you know what? You're probably not wrong about that

@@Ajehy the alternate perspective we've all been waiting for
Thank you Tak, for not only playing this long and intense game, but also all the editing. That takes some work.
Thank you so much for watching! Seeing that people are enjoying this makes all the hours worth it.
@@takkawana8380 must have been brutal rewatching all those failed saves lol
@@threeguyspodcast4516 it was a roller coaster of emotion. To be fair Brent had some bad rolling too. Dice tell stories.
@@takkawana8380 yeah that’s very true, would be boring and short if everything went off all the time haha. Love watching you and Tycho play, so entertaining and educating!
I loved seeing this themed battle. It was more interesting for a casual like me to watch than a balanced game with equal deployment zones and a more competitive feel. I feel like Tak and Brent were into their objectives.
I love that the Bunkers and the Turrets were brought as well! Plus a I lot of Tyranid units I don’t usually see.
Great battle. Great video.
This is one of the reasons I prefer themed battles. I'm not into the competitive circuit... But theme games I can enjoy even if I get tabled.
Damn with this level of mayhem this should have been the first 40k in 50 minutes
We do have a 40k in 50 minutes with Season 1 Opener Genestealer Cult vs Chaos. We like our 40 minutes format and yes it was a challenge to get it within but we feel pretty good about the cut.
Technically, 49:59 would still be 40k in 40 minutes :P
@@PlayOnTabletop there’s a finite number of times I can watch people resolve 60 5-ups into 3 damage. Y’all nailed the timing with this one.
@@PlayOnTabletop so when can we expect 40k in 40 hours with 40k point battles?
@@rcengineer I never like saying never but what? 40 hours??!!
Probably one of the best battles ever. Personally, I love the battles between Space Marines and Tyranids, and this match, with that beautiful battlefield, was fantastic! It was like being inside a codex story
Honestly, one of the best battle reports. If not the best one I've seen on UA-cam.
Could we see a battle for Armageddon with Ghaz in the future...?
Ohhhh man this would be perfect since Orks and Black Templars codices are fresh. I'd extra love it if one of the units can be made up of the templars from Helsreach
Yes could you guys do a re-fight of the old White Dwarf Armageddon campaign? The one with the Hive City, Guard Artillery mission, Black Templars on the Space Hulk and the White Scars/Speed Freeks battles?
@@tmartinez32 guard is coming out soon as well, maybe 6k orks vs 4k guard and 2k templars
Recreating Hellsreach with Yarrick and Ghaz thrown in the mix on top of that would be incredible.
Even just the first Ork assault on Helsreach would be epic, bunch of guard and Grimaldus’ vets holding a wall.
I'm so glad Brent rolled well and Tak did not - having two 4k sides with one winning only if they table the other in 5 turns seemed like an impossible tasks, even more so as 'nids against marines (in trenches!). The dice really turned this into an amazing and fun game!
This episode was crazy, the quality of the editing, the minis are painted so well, the storytelling so immersive and you guys fitted this in 40 min. I can just say "wow". I can see the effort you putted in this as well as in your other videos. 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
It was a labour of love and glad you enjoyed it because that means it was all worth it.
@@PlayOnTabletop and when you're job is doing what you love you don't work a day in your life👍
Spacemarine were painted well* the tyranids were a little pain to look at. Why are they glossy?
Such an amazing battle. Crazy that even with Brent rolling straight fire he wasnt able to get it done. Odds were significantly against him but he still got so close! Amazing production and the endless hours of editing did not go unappreciated.
This was an amazing fight, loved the scale of it and amazing sportsmanship
Brent was an awesome guest and player. Real trooper for playing to 1am with such a big force!
@@PlayOnTabletop He seems like a real gent and a pleasure to play with
I wish more people did these kinds of battles. Not restricted to points but to the story of the battle. Unbalanced fights are interesting too especially with a survival win condition.
I just have Two words to describe this match: Insanely Epic
We are so glad that you liked it! It is totally epic!
@@PlayOnTabletop All of you guys are incredible, quality, narrative and professionalism, thanks to your channel i keep my love for WH
I really appreciated the sportsmanship of these two players, and the fun editing of the effects during the battle.
This is how you show respect, and make the hobby fun for newcomers!
Love the content, it somehow gets better every episode.
There's nothing I enjoy more than narrative-focused play. You get to set up interesting situations, throw in some of your own rules, make entertaining situations, and use a huge variety of models whether they are "meta" or not. I still have yet to truly play after starting the hobby right before covid with sigmarines. But 100% when I finish making a 3D Krieg army (I just bought a printer and 2 weeks later GW revealed plastic Krieg) I intend on only playing narrative/ crusade.
We really enjoy matches that are flavourful and story-driven as well.
The new Kill Team system seems like it's going to be a lot more narratively focused. I'm considering using the new rules to get into both Kill Team and IG once the current drama cools down
I love that I got to see my favorite faction at 4,000 points, even though we lost in the end, I think this game perfectly captures the true horror of the nids, a big almost unending wave of bugs that will never give up. You guys always have fun to watch games and this one may be my favorite!
Smurfs back on the menu, boys- Swarmlord, probably
nom nom nom
This is one of the best batreps I’ve had the pleasure of seeing, had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Awesome job guys!
What a rollercoaster! Felt like back then when I couldn't beat Starcraft 1 at terrans Desperate Alliance. Great match!
Those bunkers with the missile turrets really gave this a Starcraft feel. One of the best RTS games, IMO.
HUGE starcraft vibes and last time I played that was 20 years ago, that mission specifically though I didn't remember the name of it
@@ReverendMeat51 For being just the 3rd mission in that campaign, the level of stress was unreal. I remembered to win only because I took off the ground with my base and flew it somewhere only mutalisks could reach.
This has a really cool star ship troopers vibe. It resembles that scene where the small handful of troopers defends against an endless horde of the bugs at the outpost. Very cool!!!
I now want to watch that again. Good shout! 😀
Wow probably the awesomest battle report I’ve seen in ages! And I don’t have to watch for four hours to see it play out! Wonderful job as usual by Play on!
Glad you liked it!
What an amazing battle. Always love watching stuff like this where it's all odds stacked against and they still pull through. Thank you to everyone involved to making such an awesome game to watch
I don't normally comment - but this was an amazing battle report and I was excited right until the end of the match! Well done, another excellent production!
Appreciate getting a comment!
Your standard 11th edition 2,000 point match:
Sarcasm aside, this was the first battle report I ever watched, and the one that really got me into 40k. Hard to believe that was over a year ago now
The painting is incredible! The hours spent and skill involved is mindbogglingly
There was a lot of hours spent on the armies. There was also a lot of hours spent on the battlefield too. Labour of love.
This was one of the best battles yet. Although you could really see the fatigue. Especially when you know it's almost physically impossible to win with unit hiding and bringing a 30 wound unit into the game midway. Tak could have hid even harder but he was a good sport. He even seemed like he really didn't feel like he won.
The journey is more important than the end. This game for me was not about the "score" but the story.
@@takkawana8380 cheers bro. You were a good sport and played fun despite frustrating dice. Both players were excellent though.
This was, without a doubt, simply amazing! I loved every second of it, the models, the terrain, the players, the narrative- everything! Fantastic work as always, and I am looking forward to watching this time, and time again.
We are so happy that you loved it! We loved making it!
This is exactly how games should be played and watched. Thank you for a amazing game and video.
I think this might be my favourite one yet, really enjoying the narrative style games. They add just the right level of spice to bring it all home. And the editing and effects are on point.
We really like doing the narrative ones too!
What a game, it’s been said before but this really is what 40k is all about! This kind of game makes me feel exactly the same way I did when I first discovered it 35 years ago. Thanks guys I loved watching this 🤝
I’d love to see more cinematic battle scenarios like this with horde type armies. Those are what make 40k so fun to watch in my opinion
Thanks for the video man!
What an incredibly entertaining narrative mission! I wish more games were like this - unbalanced but so immersive!
When the Astraeus showed up i just had to shout out it it out.
“Who called in the fleet?!” “Battle cruiser operational!!”
But in all honesty, it was an beautiful match. Great atmosphere and action.
I always hoped that someone would use a long table for an “long” attack/defence match, instead of the usual wide engagement.
Now when i see it I admit it looks stunning.
We don't say it too loud but when we built the Ultramarine's list all the units were made to match a StarCraft equivalent.
@@PlayOnTabletop omg this is so amazing! Just by a few days ago I discovered Warhammer 40K and had the imense pleasure of finally discover the rpg like tabletop game that I always wanted to play without knowing! I'm just super studying and discovering everything that comes about lore and gameplay so I can GM and play with friends too!
I had friends who collected these as a youngster,I don't really understand what's going on but I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, both guys seem like they had fun that's what matters, much love from England.
Tak, your army is gorgeous! Well done to all of you for such an awesome episode. Love your guys' work
Thank you!
This was a hell of an episode. Really enjoyed this one. I mean I enjoy them all, but this one is the stuff of legends. One thing I loved in previous editions was just making up fun scenarios, and this totally brought me back to that.
Classic, amazing how close the nids got, if only there was a 6th turn.
Great work again guys, never fail to disappoint.
Brent played great and really did well with the challenge.
In my mind, the Tyranids absolutely won, but that's just because I'm not a fan of the smurfs plus I also play nids lol
That was probably one of the greatest battle reports I've ever seen
This was such an awesome game! Absolutely loved it. I was disappointed not to see, say, a couple of Bio-Titans turn up in Turn 5 as a special surprise!! Hell, even the Ultramarines could've had sudden reinforcements via drop pods. I think you should do this again, but with the Blood Angels, because didn't Baal almost fall to the... Leviathan Fleet (I think it was)? Maybe do a game inspired by Starship Troopers' "Whiskey Outpost" battle. ;) Great game, guys!
If this one does well and we now know we can pull off these big battles we can plan for more in the future. It was 1am as we closed out this game so admittedly a bit exhausted.
ive always thought the warhammer tabletop games looked really fun but i dont have the time, money, skills,(friends who play these type of games) to get into this hobby so its cool to watch videos like this
Gotta love Tyranids. The editing and narration was also insane this episode. You really only get better every video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Invasion, I really like this casual story mode.
One of my favorite things about this channel is how concise your batreps are. Other channels would probably make this at least a 4 hour video.
Not going to lie. It was very tricky to get this down to the 40-minute format. But we are very happy with it!
What an Onslaught battle. 5 round Kill them all is a PITA to do. Absolute meat grinder of a match, well done! Wicked nice narrative fight!
One of my favourite reports so far! Would love to see more games of this style.
We will see what we can do!!
Absolutely LOVED all the effects, honestly I could watch "effected" 40K battle reports ALL DAY SON!
Something to watch on my day off while I work on my army, let's go!!
Did you like it!?
@@PlayOnTabletop I liked this type of match play! Its my first time seeing 40k played like that. It was very enjoyable to watch the tyranids attack like a true horde against a wall of marines. Pretty much like you would ideally get in the real battles in lore. I hope yall have more matches like this coming up
@@foreverfornever1124 with this kind of response we can only start to plan to do this again sometime in the future.

Wow! You guys do it again! How is it possible that with every video it just keeps getting better and better! Brent was a pleasure to watch as was Tak as usual!!! I loved every second! THE EDITING AND PRODUCTION IS OSCAR WINNING STUFF!
Glad you enjoyed it as there was a real concerted effort by everyone! I wonder what a UA-camr award show looks like?
@@PlayOnTabletop I am sure that a UA-camr award show would like the Oscars when The Return of the King won everything, with you guys obviously being Peter Jackson and CO!
I can just imagine you all up there with your awards together and at the end of your acceptance speech all saying in unison "Until the next time you see us in the dark grim universe of the far future, PLAY ON!"
"He has powerarmour does he really need a windshield."

Incredible production and just another all-around feel-good episode! Slowly helping me get into 40K!
This was probably my favourite Batrep I've ever witnessed
I hope you guys will continue doing narrative/specialty gametypes in the future
much more immersive than pitched battles
Bravo Play on Tabletop!
Amazing match! Tak makes me enjoy seeing the ultramarines!
I'm humbled.
This is by far my favorite Warhammer tabletop let's play channels all of the players have such good energy they have such wonderful mats settings and models. But my biggest win for this channel is that the games and the narrator are fun to watch and listen to, you guys make it seem like I'm watching ESPN over here... I love it!
Thank y'all so much for great content. Keep up the great work.
Stunning, fellas. That was absolutely stunning. Loved the intro, too, and the music!! So on point.

This is currently my favourite battle report I have ever seen. The combination of narrative, setting, and players was amazing. Tak and Brent had a great chemistry and sportsmanship.
I still think this is the best video on the channel
Looking at the reception of this one we are going to do more forge the narrative style battles. One is in the works now.
Haven’t watched past 3:24 yet, but I can’t imagine anything but a SM victory. Nids have an old codex, and all the smurfs have to do is stay alive.
I’m new to the channel and have been binge watching ! This was the best episode!!

That was the most amazing 40k in 40 min I've ever seen ... More of these please. Just AAA work from everyone involved. Thank you guys so much this channel is my reason for getting into 40k
Very relevant after the 10th edition reveal.
this is probably the only 40k battle report ill ever watch beginning to end. Truly awesome and congrats to all involved.
That was incredible! Great work guys!
Well, this is the first battle report I've had the patience to watch. I don't play any miniature wargames but I think this taught me quite a bit about 40k. Great editing!
Thanks for watching it all the way through and glad it held your interest
Wow, this was such an epic fight to watch. Tense all the way up to the final rolls!
It was so awesome!!!
You guys did a really amazing job with this one. I always love seeing a mix of competitive and narrative battle reports on channels, and you guys nail it here. Another thing I'd like to point out that I don't see a lot of people mentioning, you guys do the soundtrack very expertly. It is subtle most of the time, but the vibe is always on point, like playing the sinister music when the Tyranids are all charging in, and the ending theme is great too. Love what you guys have been doing
We do spend a lot of time choosing music. It is so important to setting up the right tone and applying atmosphere to a game of inanimate objects.
3 days ago i watched a tiktok about tyranid lore without ever hearing about 40k and now im watching actual games played before bed. how did this happen to me
Because Tyranids are so cool!
Wow, the production value on these really is second to none!
Of all the narrative battle reports you've done, this one felt the most immersive to me. You could really see the story playing out with the Ultramarines holding out against the increasingly deadly waves of Tyranids. I had no idea who was going to take it right up until the end!
Also great job on the edit; with a game of this size I thought it was a good job of cutting it down to the 40 min format while still keeping all the critical moments (and enough dice rolls) to make it impactful.
I bought one on your jumper and it’s amazing. Thanks for helping me get through lockdown
Thanks for the support!
I love the lore, the painting and the models, I have never played a game. But I love these battle reports. They give you enough details to understand what's going on, stay focused on the narrative and just good sportsmanship all around. Well played Tak and Brent!!
I feel like when people picture 40k in their heads, this is what it looks like. No other battle rep has captured this scale.
This is the kind of game I love to see; I could so easily see this as the culmination of a Crusade series. I hope we get to see more of the narrative-style missions in the future. Either way, keep up the good work and Play On!
Zergling rush.. Oh the sweet memories.
Sweet, sweet memories for us all!
I have been looking for battle reports like this for so long now. I don't even play 40k and this was super engaging and fun to watch. I need everyone doing AOS battle reports to step up to this quality please
This was a fun game to watch. I love these massive games and I would love to see a chaos legion vs a loyal legion at this scale. Also man I love the music you guys use for these and would love to know where to find them

This was one of the few battle reports that I have really wanted to keep watching. Genuinely great production, narrative and gameplay plus the special effects/editing is a nice touch.
These guys have the best 40k tabletop content on UA-cam. I'm hooked.
id love to see more of these like "eldar vs. a horde of orks" or "Necrons vs. a horde of daemons" etc.. This stuff is super cool.
this is so much easier to watch than other big channels like MWG. this is nice and short but great work, stratedgies and effort into making these easy and fun to watch games.
Love the Play On Tabletop fights. Have the most professional feel to them of all the channels I'v seen, nice effects, good camera positions, overlook from above and action shots - and no shake! Good comments and narration and always great players with fun stuff happening. My favorite 40k game channel to follow.
Thank you for watching and appreciating our format.
This was a fantastic idea, wonderful setup, beautiful models, brutal gameplay, and overall an absolute thrill to see on the table. As someone who’s never gotten the chance to actually play with another this is an absolute Dream of a match for me. Great Job everyone!!!! Thanks for doing what you guys do :]
This is definitely my favourite battle report. It is everything I'd expect and more from both the Tyranids and the Ultramarines. You really do get a feeling they're being overrun by the endless swarm. Great job guys keep it up.
I don't see a lot of ppl talking about it so ima say it : the terrain for this report is so beautiful and flavorful! The trenches and multi-layered fortress is an amazing idea!
I would LOVE to see a unique challenge like this done again. I really enjoyed it. It really seemed like Brent would win, but I feel like I blinked and then Tak was calling it lol. I really enjoy Tak's tactical decisions. Honestly, everyone on the team, to my limited understanding of the game, finds a balance between fun and sound strategic play, each with they own unique style. It never gets boring watching any of you guys play any army.
Love it. I love the video editing to add special effects, the gameplay style of Tyrranid onslaught against a fortified position. This is what I think when I think 40k!
All the reason why we love 40k! The effort you guys put In to these videos is just epic. Thanks for the entertainment and rekindling my love for the hobby.
Great episode! “That’s a one, an Australian six” cracked me up for some reason
That extra attention to detail of showing cgi of the shooting is very nice 👍 also the fire/smoke of the speeder wreckage is extremely creative I absolutely love that!
