Thanks for commenting -- this is a great question. Self-orientation is about focus, whether we're focused on ourself or on something other than ourself. Keeping our self-focus low is about not letting our innate human instincts to get in the way of focusing on someone or something else. For example, if I'm focused on what someone thinks about what I'm saying, I'm not really paying attention to them. When someone begins to self-sacrifice, it is - paradoxically - an indicator of a high self-orientation. I'm so focused on what you think of me that I put myself or my organization at a disadvantage. Low S is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less. I hope this is helpful.
Very clear and helpful video. Easy to memorise equation. Thanks
Well done video with clear key messages.
In a business setting, at what point does low Self-Orientation slide into Self-Sacrifice for the team or company?
