The guy taking off his shirt was doing so because if you get 5 yellow cards within a season, you then have to serve a 1 match suspension. He was on 4 yellow cards at the time and figured he may as well get the suspension out of the way whilst injured.
This rules vary in countries. In the french league, you get suspended if you get 3 yellow cards in your last 10 apparences ( and not in a 10 games played by your team)

The suspension means you will not play for 1 game, for accumulating a certain amount of yellow cards, in a certain amount of time
For example, in French Ligue 1, if you get 3 yellow cards in your last 10 apparences, you will be suspended for the 11th.
During the world cup, if you take 2 yellows card , you get suspended as well. However, this accumulate first for the phase group, and then it reset for the final line with direct elimination.
Meaning :
-if you take 2 yellow cards in group phase, you'll be suspended the next game
-if you get 2 in the round of 16 and the semi final, you will miss the final.
-However, if you take 1 in the group stage, and 1 in the round of 16, you are not suspended. You will be if you take any other one after this round!
