My old Kenmore, about 24 years young, is still going strong. I’ve only needed two repairs - replaced the door hinge and one circuit board.
Thanks for the informative video. We’re looking to replace our old front loading LG WM2301H washer (4.2 cu ft). This machine’s about 12 years old and has a water hammer problem when the valves shut down the water supply - a known issue with old LG's apparently. This wasn't a notable problem initially but has grown worse in the past year with no other changes to our household plumbing. We had a plumber visit, tried fastening down pipes, replacing shut off valves in nearby sinks and installing water hammer arrestors to no avail. Plumber's conclusion was that the problem was with the water shut off system in the machine itself and given the age we should replace it. A couple of questions - 1) Are there new front loading machines on the market known for having gentler water supply shut off action? Our water pressures very typical - lots of other water using appliances in the house that don’t cause this issue - e.g. dishwashers, fridge water supply etc. 2) Are the LG’s specifically better regarding their mold and water shut off problems than they used to be?
Love my Speed Queen front load, has what you need without all the useless features.
Had our last Miele over 20 years and our latest one is still going strong at 10 yrs old, never had issue with either, So will stick with Miele
I have an Electrolux that's been good so far. I've had it for a few years now. I went with Electrolux because I need a dryer that vents to the left and they're one of the only brands that still offers a reversible door on both the washer & the dryer, so I'm able to have the dryer on the left and not have the doors in the way.
I have an Electrolux front loader as well. I spent a lot of time researching and reviews before I got it. After I bought it, it was a great machine and I loved it... for about 2 years. Now the electronics have just started messing up and very $$$ to fix, even if you do it yourself. Fixed it once, 6 months later, same problem back again. Not sure if it's the same board, have to have a guy come out for 100 bucks to tell me.
Thank you for making this video. I just purchased a new home and we don't have a washer and dryer, and we are a family of 5. I have spent hours online searching for a reliable washer and dryer and you confirmed my suspicion about the reviews I was reading. Anytime I go to read reviews I never look at 5 star reviews because I feel like they are only promos, marketing tactics, and people who have not really had the item for longer than a few weeks. I usually go right to the reviews that are 1 and 2 stars immediately. There are sooooo many complaints about Samsung washers and I am not purchasing that brand at all. Thank you for the video.
the newer models break more easy.if I were you buy parts now while they are available. cause new products are made more poorly cheaper...
Stay away from Samsung. By far the most repaired machine. Look for best warranty over a year. I’m a family of 5. Speed queen, expensive small but you can get two loads done in the time it takes a 5.4 size washer. 5 year warranty.
I think washing machine shopping is just for fun. You can expect a lot from your washer, but the appliance cannot deliver clean clothes if you don't know what utilities you will need.
For my LG, I figured out what its stock wash cycles were years after I started using it, "Cotton, intensive, 60 °C". Still, I needed a liquid detergent prewash to get better grease removal. I upgraded the detergents I use, Persil Color liquid for the prewash, Persil Hygiene Universal powder in main wash for the bleaching.
I am going to add calgon next upon learning that my water source is very hard, so learn the appliance manual before using it.
Electrolux front loaders are great too!
Good information, thank you!
I am curious what brand of washer and dryer do you have in your home?
Nice one. Can you please make one video on Sharp latest steam oven SSC2489DS vs mainstream more costly steam ovens options?
Do you know if the LG has a direct drive motor, and if so, what are the benefits? Also, does the LG do well at keeping the load balanced? I have a 13-year-old GE, which is terrible at getting off balance with towels. It is supposed to catch an off-balance load and adjust, but it often takes several minutes. I hope the LG will be much better at preventing off-balanced loads and quickly detecting them when they occur.
My parents have a Miele from 1995, still works. Still original gasket (no mold). Also my 2010 Miele is doing well, as expected.
My 2007 Miele Vaccum is still going strong too. Maybe the best appliance brand
The problem there is they don't make large washers and dryers. I would love to have a Miele, but went with LG for the size.
I have had my Maytag' front load and matching dryer for about 20 years. Yes I have had them serviced over the years (mostly the dryer) but I love them and I am going to use them until I can't get parts anymore.
Same here. We love ours too. I just had the rollers replaced in our Maytag dryer of 19 years. The washer was serviced twice of some cosmetic repairs on the detergent receptacle and inner wall of the front door. What did you have repaired for your Maytag?
Hold on to those units, particularly the washer, as long as you can. I can tell you from experience that the new Maytag washers aren't nearly as good as the old ones.
I'll keep my Kenmore washer and dryer I bought back in 1990 with no issues or service calls. The only thing the dryer needs is a heating element and since I broke the selector also needs replaced.
i have 22year old may tag washer and dryer no repairs still works
We have owned samsung appliances and that includes samsung front load washer. We bought it back in 2016 and just this year it has serious issues such as the bearing getting worn out. It has lasted 7 years, but with the amount of times its being used as we have a big family, this washer has actually lasted us maybe double that time
.
My Samsung washer sametime, 7 years and it's going from wear..it should have lasted at least 10 years
I found it odd that Electrolux wasn't in your mix.
Due to space limitations the best option for me will be the LG washtower (have not purchased yet). Any feedback you can provide?
They are fantastic especially when you consider its main competitor in the old unitized units where the energy consumption was huge, the capacity was small, and the lid to the washer didn't even open all the way. The LG WashTower is efficient and effective.
4.9 years...GE front load broken! only the quick wash still works properly.
I have 2 months left on the 5 year warranty. IF they can fix it in under one month i will keep it until it breaks.
If not, speed queen here we come!!!
(either way, i'm getting a speed queen!)
Edit…. Now, I’m leaning towards LG
Very helpful! Do you have any information about Speed Queen? Thank-you for your always informative videos.
Speed Queen makes good laundry. They are very well known for their top load units but their front load units perform well too. That said, they are not nearly as feature rich as machines like GE and LG.
Steve is the king
Searching for a new washer to replace Old Reliable Maytag. I know Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006.
Saw the GE Ultafresh Front Load 5.0 cu ft. And was absolutely dazzled! This lose to buying it when I read reviews by people using it.
I wish there was a showroom that had washers hooked up and demonstrated their functionality and noise!!! We’re buying blind in many ways, despite Ten Best lists and customer reviews.
If I had 10K I’d get the full size Miele Little Giant Series W/D. Instead It looks like Old Reliable front load Maytag is a safe bet, and it is made in the USA. A unicorn!
Wish you were here in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina! Thank you for the many teaching videos, I’ve enjoyed learning from you. Needing to replace a 13 year old Samsung front loader that died and I hesitate to call a repairman because of its age. Always told myself when the time came I’d return to a top load. Worked hard to keep the mildew smell controlled by hand drying the gasket daily and keeping the door open when not in use. I believe I hastened it’s demise by using too much detergent. Not one repair in all the 13 years.
So many choices! Top loads I like Maytag, Speed Queen, and can’t believe I’m seeing the advantage of staying with a front load - the new GE with microban does sound enticing. Front loads can hold my king size blankets and comforters, and are more gentle versus a top load with agitator.
Any way you can say what machines handle king size bedding the best?
Purchase the GE 850 machines if they can fit in your space. They are 5 cu ft capacity and have a ton of great features.
@@YaleAppliance1 thank you! Great to receive a straight clear answer. I will then! I love your videos.
You got a long life out of that Samsung washer. The new Bespoke Samsung made in Newberry SC have a 20 year warranty on the motor.
I just purchased the LG WM4000 pair in black steel. Any opinions on this specific model?
It's our #1 seller for LG laundry. Its a fantastic machine and services extremely well... great purchase.
Our samsung washer was fine but we tossed it out with the dryer we'd spent $400 on repairs for only to have another come up-all in 5 years. We went LG based on consumer reports...
Good choice, LG is 1 of the most reliable brand when it comes to washers, my LG washer has lasted 9 years and still going good. But your Samsung washer spoiled twice in 5 years doesn't sound too bad, you can't expect a product to have zero issues, it does need upkeep and parts replacement from time to time from wear & tear.
Why did washing clothes become so technical and complicated?!
Consumers have more options/brands to choose from. You can still walk in Costco or Home Depot to buy any appliances you want without doing any home work but it might cost you later when comes to repair.
Same question, especially the RIDICULOUSNESS of phone apps, wifi and alexa on appliances when they can't/won't even produce the longevity/reliability that we grew up with anymore. They have their priorities all messed up. The bolstered "profits" of planned obsolescence are not worth destroying the planet, these corporations need to be CHECKED big time.
What about Electrolux? I've had mine since 6/2015. No issues with belt, drain pump, heating element etc.
We do not sell Electrolux any longer. When we did (back when you purchased yours) they were fantastic machines. They changed the line a couple years ago and they didn't perform the same way.
They might quit on me by morning, but I've had an Electrolux front load washer and dryer for 14 years with no issues.
Speed queen, hands down
I’m so gun shy about appliances…I purchased a Kenmore refrigerator, stove, & dishwasher in 2007. The refrigerator compressor went out in 2019, replaced the ice maker 5 times, we have very hard water, replaced the water filter every 4 months. Replaced it with an LG, OCT. 2019, purchased an extended warranty from LG. They sent LG technicians for an icing up issue in the freezer. They determined it was the compressor. In the meantime I contacted a local appliance technician I used to repair a used upright freezer I purchased for my garage. Well…it was the defrost sensor…he ordered & repaired my refrigerator before LG & their techs could get the parts😂. Need to upgrade stove & dishwasher….age. I thought about replacing my Maytag washer & dryer for some sleek new stackable set….I think I’ll live with my ugly old white set…they work great. Thanks for the great video. If you sold appliances in Texas…I’d be buying from you.
Service is tough everywhere....next purchase should be whichever brand has the best service in your area.
Where did Miele fall on this? I would have expected them to be high up the list
Miele makes great laundry and they service extremely well. They were not included as this video was for full size font load machines and Miele makes compact laundry.
You keep on mentioning how bad Samsung is for repairs, does that include any service calls for 1st year manufacturer warranty? I'm an appliance specialist for Lowes and watch all your videos thanks for the videos and content helps me learn more about what I sell.
Samsung makes fairly reliable products. The problem is, when you have an appliance that needs service, whether it be under warranty or after, you are dealing directly with the manufacturer. It’s hard to get answers back in a timely manner. If you purchase Samsung from someone who performs their own service, then you should be just fine!
QUESTIONS
do you like speed queen top load TC or speed queen Front load washer better?
Which one gets the least service calls?
Which one will last the longest?
Would you choose the GE 650 or the LG4000? I am torn between the two. I want something that actually sanitizes and kills germs, but not sure if this is a gimmick.
@@YaleAppliance1 you like both the dispenser and the reliability of the LG? I went ahead and purchased the LG. I liked the antimicrobial properties of the GE, the 50 oz dispenser, and the vent. However, the LG fits in my laundry room, whereas the GE would have been a really tight fit. I am curious about how well the sanitizing function works. I have read that it doesn't do much as the steam can't heat up the load as it's already wet, which lowers the temperature too much to kill bacteria. I really like the idea of sanitizing towels and certain items, but I am not really hopeful it is all that effective, at least compared to European machines that truly sanitize.
@@David49305 use either Lysol or Clorox Laundry Sanitizer in the fabric softener dispenser. Don’t use any liquid traditional fabric softeners, they will gunk up the machine. Wash your towels in hot water and dry on high heat. They will effectively help reduce/remove bacteria and viruses.
The most reliable front loader is Speed Queen.
Maybe, but you can't buy them right now unless you are willing to wait for 6 months to a year for delivery.
What is the best stacking washer and dryer 🤔
You can stack any front load units. GE and LG are both great. The other thing you can look into is LG WashTowers.
All Stores Please Lower the price of all Military and Local for all Brands of Front Loader Products and Accessories and Production Cost Now That's too much $$ The Whole World Now 🙏🙏🙏
Is there a top loading front load machine that has front and rear bearings?
@@YaleAppliance1 I mean with bearings in front and rear with a top loading flap in the front load window only?
@@YaleAppliance1 seems like that would be far more durable if the front load drum had front and rear bearings with a drum access hatch built into the drum. So it would be a top-loading front-load. I did experience a bearing failure on my Kenmore Elite Oasis he top loader with the turbine agitator which was the worst machine ever because literally every part of it broke on top of the fact that at its best ability it sucked as a washing machine. My LG front loaders from 2009 are still going strong, I've only had to replace the pump with a genuine LG part which was fifty bucks and the rotor position sensor which was eight bucks on Amazon. Both jobs only took about 10 minutes.
Lg or GE?
Do y’all have repair statistics for Speed Queen laundry?
We do. Our Speed Queen business is predominantly in top load. We do not sell too many front loaders because most customers become enamored with the more feature rich units like GE.
@@YaleAppliance1 Speed Queen front load is less popular than its top load but repair statistics wise, how is it compared with others?
@@insidethegardenwall22 Their front loaders do perform/service well. They are a workhorse machine as you would expect but lose out in front loaders because brands like GE and LG have better feature packs for significantly less money.
I have just got rid of a hotpoint that lasted a month. Hate modern machines.
Every thing is expensive nowadays and less reliable. Honesty gone long time ago. Very Sad reality
What washer you have at home?
I now rent. I have a Kenmore Elite top load.....ironic, I know. I think front loads are better. I have owned Electrolux, Miele, and Maytag
As I type, Samsung is refunding my total purchase price. Bought in 2016. Recalled in 2016.
I just purchase ld the LG 5.2 CU Model:WM8900HBA and an LG 7.4 CU Model:DLEX4500B washer. Are they reliable? I was told LG washers are more reliable than GE and the other brands. Maybe I should have purchased the 5.3 CU GE washer with Ultravent since it's cheaper and maybe more reliable

How about Speed Queen?
Speed Queen makes good laundry. They are very well known for their top load units but their front load units perform well too.
My Samsung washer died within 3 months and started sparking. Took forever to get it seen, and they didn’t even replace it because the washer is a BestBuy exclusive. They gave me a gift card, but Samsung doesn’t sell $799 washers on their website
Wtf I want a replacement
Please define "a capful."
Do NOT buy Samsung washer. All of them have same issue after some use. Just search spider arm. When changing that, you'll have to change bearings too. At best it is $200 doing it yourself. If you're lucky, it will last 2-3 years max before you need to replace it again.
Ordered Samsung Washer and Dryer, deliveered and Installed bySamsung itself. Found that Dryer is squaking when i return home and asked Samsung to replace it. I called them go knows how many times. Sometimes they say they will replace, after speaking to Technical Department, E-commerce, Sales, Warranty and after 2 months, i am waiting for them to replace, which i will highly doubt they will. I found out that, i am not the only one with this experience, rather there are Facebook group with consumers from Samsung, who experience the same. I would recommend not to purchase anything from Samsung and that was my last purchase from Samsung. And I wish i had seen your video before purchasing that from that Crap company-Samsung.
Just buy a commercial washer!
EXACTLY MISTER.... samsung is a gamble buy. When it works it works great when it doesn't...... lets just say due to their poor customer support you wont buy another samsung again. unless it's a phone of course. spent 4 hours on the phone with samsung got hung up on left on hold hung up on again left on hold told the customer they would call back never called back. customer came in our store. we spend 1 hour and 22 minutes exactly getting transferred from different departments then finally told us and the customer they would call us back to schedule a technician out to resolve the issue. GUESS WHAT?! THEY NEVER CALLED BACK YET AGAIN!!! Does anyone want to go through this same situation?
If it doesn't have front access to the filter it's a major design error
Like Maytag. They were off my list right away because of that. Just a dumb design.
I'm not buying anything samsung ever again, all broke in short time... watched this cause i'm thinking of buying a whirlpool with an issue (used and older) but part is not expansive, bitch to get at but we are handy...
This was semi useless, I want to know what washes clothes the best with the least amount of repair
I bought a GE washer based on your reviews and guidance and it was one of the worst purchases I ever made. Right from the factory, brand new, the softener dispenser would not work. The drain pump regularly clogs. Sometimes the software hangs and I have to pause-unpause the washer to continue washing (no clogs). A year in and now the door wont lock closed. Serious mistake, will never go with GE ever again, and in my eyes your expertise has lost a lot of credibility.
It doesnt matter how good, helpful, or free the service is if my washer is out of comission every other week for servicing.
Sorry to hear that....Nothing in appliances is flawless. Have it exchanged under warranty
3 people and 2 loads a dayy broo what is you onn
1 load a day....I work out daily and have a 7 year old who does JuJitsu, etc
I appreciate that there is actual service call data used for these reliability claims. Obviously they are limited by what they actually sell.
