- Bernd van Doornick had some 24,000 total flying hours and is credited with more than 5,000 people rescued. These pictures were shot at Tracouet (Switzerland) in 2002. Bernd showed the crowd what an Aerospatiale SA 315B Lama can do. The Lama holds to this day the absolute altitude record for all types of helicopters since 1972: 12,442 m. Quite an impressive helicopter, and with a skilled man at the controls this helo can do impressive stuff.

Ces images ont été tournées en 2002 à Tracouet, où Bernd van Doornick a fait la démonstration de ce qu'un Aérospatiale SA315 B Lama était capable. Cette machine impressionnante détient toujours le record du monde d'altitude avec 12'442 mètres en juin 1972.
Every time I watch video's of Bernd van Doornick I am left speechless. This man knows how to fly. He is Amazing!!!

The Lama has flown to over 40,000 feet? In 1972?? That's CRAZY! Wow... never heard of such a record. I thought 18k feet was way high for a heli!

Thanks ! I had a chance with my father to fly on them a lot fo times...they were very noisy...especially when starting. My father told me once that autorotations were hard to perform.

Nice heli: the Lama is basicaly a Alouette II overpowered with a Alouette III engine for high altitude operations and flying job: was a big success for Sud Aviation/Aerospatiale , export all around the world...

ridden in a couple of the Air and Sea Rescue Copters out at the base, they were Sikorskey.
but most of the Air Force choppers when I was in were Hueys - noisy things but a fun ride if you weren't on a mission.
the choppers aren't just easy prey for small arms fire - in the desert sand gets in the lubrication and gums up the works so helicopter crew and pilots get extra hazard pay.
which the few who survive will collect

il m'a semblé voir l'helico déraper plutôt sur l'intérieur dans les virages à gauche et plus à l'extérieur dans les virages droites, est-ce que ça correspond à une spécificité du pilotage hélicoptère ? j'ai pu observer sur modèle rc une asymétrie mais que je n'arrive pas vraiment à saisir, c'est pas très intuitif ces effets en particulier gyroscopiques..

lama SAL 315B helicopter designe and built by indian army and HAL (hindustan aeronautical limited )
Actually the SA-315B was designed by Aerospatiale for the indian army and it was License built by HAL under the name Chetah.
