When I was 5 my parents rented an awesome game and I forgot the title. It had crazy weapons, smooth parallax scrolling, and giant exploding levels. But I couldn't remember it and nobody knew what it was...20 years later, it was Gunstar Heroes!! I'm gonna get me a copy!
One thing I love about Treasure's games: They're the epitome of "hard but fair." That, and those unforgettable set-piece battles. Great review, really nailed it. :)
Treasure made some absolutely amazing games. They made the severely underrated Astro Boy Omega Factor which is by far my favorite GBA game period. Great review.
I still can't get my head around some of the sprite layering and scaling on the bosses. It looks 3D, BUT IT ISN'T 3D. The core boss blows my mind every single time.
***** I always was impressed by Treasure's ventures, but their Genesis titles blow me away. Their gameplay and use of the Genesis' capabilities were incredible.
BeatEmUps - I found this channel thanks to iRetroGamer thanks cause she jus became on my top 10 most Beautiful Angel Faces Of All Time.......... Jan 15 2018
Nice to see this game and the Genesis getting some love in this review. After I finally stopped swearing profusely at Gunstar Heroes once I learned the patterns it proved to be one of the most awesome LSD-induced shooty-shooty-at-things games on the Genesis.
This game was the most intense I played in my childhood. Everything is explosions! You flying kick a bug in mid-air and it explodes! The music changed the way I hear anything for the rest of my life, thanks to Norio Hanzawa. Apparently this game had the most complex songs of any Sega game. I've played through the first four stages without being hit once. I had a LOT of vitality. That "Melon Head" (floating smiley face) or whatever murdered me once. I waited a few seconds without shooting at it and it paused to vomit out a serious bomb! Be careful. My favorite enemies are the curry man and the Minion Soldier. Also, I challenge you to try to do that standing slide move for all of you will play this game. It was hard for me to figure out. Lastly, I really appreciate your thoroughness Alli. I am subscribing just for that. Thank you *:0)
Love this channel! Just found out about it today and.....now I’ve watched all of ur vids lol. I wish u made more cuz ur humor really hits home with me. Take care : )
Hello from England...just subscribed after watching the Megadrive review. Your voice is so soft and lovely I could listen to you all day. You grew up on the Master System? My first system, my brother had the C64/128. Not going to ask how old are you! because that is rude. I'm 37.. Good Videos and you make me smile.
One of the best Mega Drive games for sure. The unlimited continues was a nice touch. I hated getting to the same place on an old game and having to start again! Good review mate and keep them up! ;) PS - that buttoned down top was a distraction ha ha x
What are you talking about? Treasure don't own the rights to M.Bison. That's crazy talk. What kind of crazy person would put M.Bison in Gunstar Heroes? :)
Just stumbled upon your videos! You need to make more! Your sense of humor and ability to extract everything important is spot on! Keep up the great vids.
Love finding videos I haven't seen before. My brother and I loved playing this on our mega drive. None of our friends in here kn Australia had it either. This and SoR 2!
You have a knack for mixing some humor into a well thought out game review. While I like the AVGN and others, sometimes the comedy doesn't lend itself to games that are actually worth playing. Very well made and welcome back!
Why thankyou! :) What are you talking about? Back to the Future on NES is totally worth playing. It's strong and it's sudden and it's cruel sometimes. But it might just save you life. That's the power of Back to the Futu...oh god this didn't work at aaaaall.
Wow. I really like your entertaining reviews. Some of the best on the net. Informative, great gameplay footage, fantastic commentary and humor too. Oh and it doesn't hurt that your cute! Very well done. I wish more people took the time to make well-structured reviews like this!
Wow thank you for not being obnoxious or annoying like a lot of other UA-cam game personalities. Honestly great review! You seem natural and have a good sense of humor. Continue making videos cause they're are great! :D Also, it'd be cool if you review the sequel on GBA at some point. Best of luck with the channel! ~Sam
Hi from Mexico, really awesome video hope to see more from you. This is one of my favorite games from the 16bit wars, along with the badass contra hard corps. Keep up the great work and maybe a video about other 16bit gems like this one.
I love the Captain Planet references. I wish you made videos currently :( I just found you from The Video Game Years after binging most of it and I find you way more entertaining and comical than Wood
Today I downloaded Gunstar Heroes for my 3DS. Before I did that, I was looking at the internet, to see whether the game was any good and that's how I found your very entertaining channel. And now I've watched all your videos. The game is fun, too. So I guess today was a good day. :-)
As a first timer to your videos, I gotta say, well done. Well presented videos, spot on review, and I love your humours in your videos. Definitely subscribing.
Youre doing great as a host. I believe you would have a great future as a host of a show at TV. Like the german GIGA Tv and co. Good looking, smart and talented
When I originally wrote that, I didn't realize that that was legitimately what he was doing. That attack is listed as Break Wind. Oh Treasure, Y U so crazy?
Anyone here who's played it will know that The Great Final Soldier which was the boss with the ability Love Love Dancing is impossible to be killed by the player. (Primarily because he gets a cut screen death five seconds after you encounter him.)
1) Excellent review 2) The editing was really good 3) DAT CAPTAIN PLANET! lol .. 4) holy crap - new 8-bit Alli!!!!! O_O edit : okay let me also say that I've played the GBA version and it's pretty damn awesome.. I'm not sure if the GBA version was a remake or a sequel (?) but i recognized a lot of the boss fights you showed .. I agree, definitely worth playing!
I think it's meant to be a sequel, but a lot of the bosses have been brought across. A variation of Seven Force even makes an appearance in Alien Soldier too, along with the same boss theme from Gunstar Heroes. It's a very cool crossover. :)
Sup Alli. First of all Welcome Back. Second a crazy game I love is Dashin' Desperadoes. If you've ever played that for the Megadrive than you score extra points. Third Top Hat Cat could have used a monocle like the monopoly guy...or a beard like Samurai Lincoln/ Wayne Gretzky (ATHF reference)...or a guitar like Slash from Guns and Roses. Guess that's what top hats remind me of. Forth and final.......I Heart You!
I played it for about 10 minutes last night. In that time, a fancy crow in a top hat knocked me over more times than I'd like to admit. *shakes fist at screen* Faaaaancy Crow! I believe you should find this to your liking. :) i.imgur.com/b27SUD2.png
That picture is now on my phone as a background. Now when I look at my phone it's my girlfriend and I on the lock screen and New Awesome Wicked Fresh Top Hat Cat on my home screen. You made my day with that pic Alli. Thanks for taking the time to do that. See ya in a few months with your next vid :]
Those magical butt clouds are lethal! ;) Great review on easily one of the best games on the Mega Drive, your vids and editing are really cool, cant wait to check out more of your vids :)
Thanks for the cat Alli. When it comes to 'crazy' Mega Drive games I do enjoy a bit of DeCapAttack. A fun platformer where you play as a mummy who punches baddies using his head... from his stomach. Great stuff.
You are most welcome, sir! Top Hat Cat lives to please. I've never played DecapAttack, and I know next to nothing about it. But if I get to punch people with a stomach head...I'm in. *CHESTBURSTER ATTACK!*
I had the opportunity to try this thanks to the recent release of _Sega Megadrive Classics_ on the current-gen consoles. I love it, although it is frustrating that you cannot simply touch power-ups to pick them up. This is particularly a problem if you’re getting low on health and you’re desperately trying to pick up a heart. I wasn’t keen on the Fixed Shot choice either.
Really nice review :) The Japanese story makes a lot more sense, do the English versions ever actually mention Grey's name? I don't recall the UK manual ever mentioning it..
I was playing this game not to long ago for the first time ever and it was a blast. I've heard about it for a really long time but never got a chance to play it.
"If it were up to me, everyone would have a copy..."Well, good news. Thanks to Sega porting arcade hits including this on 3DS EShop, I now have this game. And it's fantastic fun. It's up there with Contra 4 and Metal Slug XX for me. :-D
Other than the fact that you talked about the English story instead of the Japanese story (which is absolute blasphemy in my eyes), this was a really good review! Also the only other game I know where you can combine powerups is Kirby 64 And The Crystal Shards.
i always loved this contra-esque style in gunstar heroes... but combining it with turricane elements -> HELL YES! well, but i have to say that i only played turricane on amiga 500 ^^"
This was my favorite game when I wasn't just playing Sonic the Hedgehog games. I mean yeah I had Aladdin and that weird first person western shooter and X-Men 2, but they all don't compare to this game. I even bought it two more times, one on Xbox the other for the 3DS because I lost my original Genesis copy sadly. Great review overall!
Glad to see another review from you. Although 9 min, everything was relevant and interesting. Its odd how your accent is inconsistent at points. Sometimes you say shootah and others you say shootrrr with a near drawl. Live in multiple regions, so I end up switching as well without realizing.
Thanks man! Yeah, I have a weird fluctuating rhotic accent. I'm occasionally asked if I've spent time in the States because of it, but I think I just speak lazily to be honest. I'm exactly the same though, I switch in and out of it without realizing.
great video, love that you get to the opint and are professional but can display a good sense of humor at the same time. you not cutting your own laughter shows that you enjoy making these videos. I wish however that you explained the weapon comination feature of the game a little more. What a triumphant return. Excellent review of Gunstar Heroes, the 2nd best run n gun on the MD. Yeah, I'm a hopeless Contra romantic. Hard Corps edges out Gunstar for me.
It's such a hard decision to make though! Gunstar and Hard Corps are both brilliant. I cut an entire section out of this video comparing similarities between the two too. Either that, or they were just reaaaally bitter after that small team of employees split off to create their own company.
Love the clever edits you made, Ali. Have you by any chance played the Thunder Force series? And have you also played other Treasure games like Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, or Gradius V?
I haven't! Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun have been on my radar for a while though. I don't think I'll ever actually own the latter, but I can dream right? I really want to pick up a copy of Guardian Heroes too. The art style is so rad!

Explodey weapons are always the best kind of weapons
Yes, yes they are. I like the part where they explode.
Ah my irish-american metal friend comments on the most attractive gamer girl on yt. Today must be my lucky day to see them both. Game the fuc* on!
EXPLOSIONS!!! TAKE IT AND MAKE IT EXPLODE!!!!
I love your video's
One thing I love about Treasure's games: They're the epitome of "hard but fair." That, and those unforgettable set-piece battles. Great review, really nailed it. :)
Treasure made some absolutely amazing games. They made the severely underrated Astro Boy Omega Factor which is by far my favorite GBA game period. Great review.
I was always mystified by the intro logo. Very few were designed in 3D back in the day. :)
Blast Processing at its finest.
Love you rerez
One of the best games of all time.

"The..." Well hey, when you say it like that, I DEFINITELY need to pick up a copy now! :)
Chaser and Force is my all time favorite combination
8:35 That's M.Bison. Stance and everything.
My age being revealed here but this game was so expensive when it came out i had to rent it twice from video store to beat it.
Love finding videos I haven't seen before. My brother and I loved playing this on our mega drive. None of our friends in here kn Australia had it either. This and SoR 2!

Subbed! There's a good balance of humor and information in your videos, something few reviewers do well. Looking forward to more!
Videos are improving so much! Great job!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it man!
Hi from Mexico, really awesome video hope to see more from you.
This is one of my favorite games from the 16bit wars, along with the badass contra hard corps.

Good to see you representing us Aussies Ali, great work! Man I remember this game, so hard!
Nice to see a new vid from you! Great review! Love that game...
That intro really cracked me up, nicely done review :D
Underrated gem
Your videos are great! Can't wait for the next one, it's a real treat when they pop up on my subscription list, keep up the great work!
I love the Captain Planet references. I wish you made videos currently :( I just found you from The Video Game Years after binging most of it and I find you way more entertaining and comical than Wood
Game was sick! I played this growing up.
Nice video gunstar heroes is one of my favourite megadrive games :) found your channel through video game years!
You got yourself a new Canadian subscriber!
Alli can we expect more videos from you soon? You did a great job on the videos you've made and I would love to see you make a shock return to UA-cam.

I can't believe it's been a whole year since I discovered this channel. Raise your glasses for the occasion! Cheers Alli! (Raises wine glass) :P
*tears kitchen apart searching for a wine glass, settles with a punch bowl* Cheers!
Gunstar Heroes still is, to this day, one of the best games I ever played. on the run n' gun genre, Metal Slug and Gunstar Heroes were the kings imo.
Loved this review! You really went in depth and covered some points even I didn't know about Gunstar Heroes :P Good job :)
Youre doing great as a host. I believe you would have a great future as a host of a show at TV. Like the german GIGA Tv and co.

One of my all time favorites! Played the crap outta this as a kid. Co-op was too much fun....plus it had a flamethrower, so thats pretty rad.
Played this game to death a long time ago... Thanks for the review, you cute kitty.

Those magical butt clouds are lethal! ;) Great review on easily one of the best games on the Mega Drive, your vids and editing are really cool, cant wait to check out more of your vids :)
I haven't played this game yet, but I played its spiritual successor(?), Guardian Heroes. Loved it (obviously).
Thanks for the cat Alli.

Great review!
I just saw you in woods video and wanted to check out your page. Great video, you should make more!
This has really good production value and is well written. You should make some more videos! haha

Love, love dancing.
Fucking classic.

I wasn’t keen on the Fixed Shot choice either.
4:51 I hate when that happens; every time you walk past one of those bags, the chaser Immediately locks onto it.
this game has no flaws, even if it does, we the kids of 90s loved it and enjoyed playing on and on ,more than anything
period
Why am I just seeing her vids now. These are great
Really nice review :)
The Japanese story makes a lot more sense, do the English versions ever actually mention Grey's name? I don't recall the UK manual ever mentioning it..
alli make more videos! your reviews are excellent and its nice to see a cool aussie mega drive perspective.
Awesome game/review. Welcome back to UA-cam land. ;)
Thanks man!
Awesome video on a great game....I just got it myself a few months ago and haven't been able to put it down
I know what you mean, man! I spent hours playing Gunstar Heroes for this review. Still not tired of it. :D
I was playing this game not to long ago for the first time ever and it was a blast. I've heard about it for a really long time but never got a chance to play it.
Not even just Mega Drive- one of the most memorable shooters EVER! :D
Lightning Chaser and Lightning Saber are so choice.
"Love meeee!" *explosion*
XD
Great review, made me want to pick up this gem again.
Don't forget about the ridiculous power tackle you can do, though!
your videos are great. I just found your channel and subbed. looking forward to your new videos.
"If it were up to me, everyone would have a copy..."Well, good news. Thanks to Sega porting arcade hits including this on 3DS EShop, I now have this game. And it's fantastic fun. It's up there with Contra 4 and Metal Slug XX for me. :-D

Also the only other game I know where you can combine powerups is Kirby 64 And The Crystal Shards.
Okay i will love you since you insist.
"the lesson is, never try."
I get that reference!
heh heh, kicked him right in the butt.
i always loved this contra-esque style in gunstar heroes...
but combining it with turricane elements -> HELL YES!
well, but i have to say that i only played turricane on amiga 500 ^^"
This was my favorite game when I wasn't just playing Sonic the Hedgehog games. I mean yeah I had Aladdin and that weird first person western shooter and X-Men 2, but they all don't compare to this game. I even bought it two more times, one on Xbox the other for the 3DS because I lost my original Genesis copy sadly. Great review overall!
You forgot the standing grind slide move, not to be confused with crouching slide.
Not sure if: My love of Alli is genuine, or if we just share a deep love for the 90's...
Dat voice is music to my ears. Can you read me a lullaby?
Lullabies are notoriously unsettling. Why would you want me to say creepy things?
***** LOL I have a hard time believing you've ever been creepy for a moment in your life! #angel
great video, love that you get to the opint and are professional but can display a good sense of humor at the same time. you not cutting your own laughter shows that you enjoy making these videos. I wish however that you explained the weapon comination feature of the game a little more. I'm curious as to how it works and that feature was the biggest draw for me to research this game. anyways, you're doing a great job. I wish more girls this cute made game videos!
'xplosions!
Damn, this is surely Mike Bay's childhood game.
And the comedy? it's probably straight outta Jackie Chan movie :D
Great review!
Welcome back, Alli!
This is my all-time favorite Genesis game. The music is fucking killer.
BISON!!!!
Good call. Had it growing up but couldnt beat. Still hard. Prob have to look up long play.
In some ways, it almost feels as though Konami were giving little nods to Treasure and Gunstar Heroes in Hard Corps. Either that, or they were just reaaaally bitter after that small team of employees split off to create their own company.
This review was awesome, really want this game now. That core boss blew my mind.
Tell me about it! It's crazy impressive. HOW IS IT NOT 3D?!
***** a crazy thing called perspective
***** imagine if it was on the 3DS
Treasure has its name for a reason, their games are gems, every one of them...
...even Macdonald's adventure...
Great review of an outstanding game for the Mega Drive! I think it holds up very well even for today.
Great videos, Alli! IMO the music is too loud though. It's a bit hard to hear you over the music.
My favorite Genesis game and probably my favorite game ever.
This narrator is as adorable as this game. I played this death as a kid.
Great review, just recently picked up Gunstar Heroes can't wait to play it.
STOP READING THIS COMMENT AND GO AND PLAY IT!
Love your retro videos Alli, however there needs to more please, selfish to keep your talents to yourself! :D
OMG. I love Gunstar heroes. Must do an Lp with a friend. Although, I probs will never do an lp of Gunstar Super Heroes.
