I’m sure she had a bottle before the reformulated crap they sell now. There is absolutely no rose in any of their perfumes . Just cheap aroma chemicals.They ruined the beautiful Carnal Flower. I despise Estée Lauder. They have ruined many many of the best perfumes, Tom Ford included.
I cannot even begin to describe how much I love this perfume .Whenever I wear it I ALWAYS get approached by somebody asking me what it is.. In the .. supermarket queue, in hospital at the dentist even a friend knew it was me in a shop recently because she could smell me before she actually saw me! It lingers wherever I have been and people remember it. If I was working on commission from Frederic Malle I’m sure I would have made a small fortune .I recently had a bottle of Superstitious bought for me. It was nice but doesn’t come close in my view.It’s my little bit of luxury that I will never be without!
I just bought this! I'm 25 and I love, love this genius fragrance!! I spray once very, very lightly and it last on me around 20 hours even after I shower. It is a luxury perfume and I'm worth every penny!!

Portrait is absolutely drop dead GORGEOUS and my favourite from the house! If there was a pantheon of fragrance deities somewhere, Portrait of a Lady would surely be enshrined within. It is one of those fragrances, not unlike many classic Guerlains, which if ever ruined by reformulation or discontinued would constitute a crime against humanity. Well, that is my opinion at least! :)
Oh my. I just tried a sample of this today, and it is absolutely the most exquisite fragrance I have smelled - perhaps ever! It is so difficult to describe, but you did very well, and thank you. I kept thinking "how great can it be"? But I ordered the sample, and it knocked my socks off. I get everything - the frankincense, patchouli, clove, sandalwood, and a small amount of the benzoin on my skin. And the oil of a deep rose petal that is rubbed between the fingers. Incense in the best possible way. I am so glad they offer a travel spray, while I save pennies in a jar for the bottle. :)

I have smelled it yes, it's really nice! I almost bought it a few times but preferred the fantasy line, so..I bought those instead hehe. Well...Believe has a big Guava/patchouli notes so, things that would be similar in a fruity type of way would be Lovestruck by Vera Wang or Gucci by Gucci (Gold Bottle). :) Maybe one of those two? I haven't tried em but they both have strong Guava/Patchouli combo notes.

I love Frédéric Malle's view of parfumerie, how he's an editor for great authors. Because of him, we know the names of some great "nez". I've ordered three samples (Carnal Flower, POAL and En Passant). I live near Paris but won't have time to go to his boutique yet, but I just couldn't wait to smell some of his parfums. I'm a 34 year old woman and I've never had "strong" parfums yet, so I'm a bit nervous, but they seem so extraordinary that I had to smell some of them right away. Btw, do you know the wonderful Francis Kurkdjian ? He's also an amazing parfumeur.
Oh yay you have ordered two of my faves by my favourite nose also! I hope you like them. Yes, I have certainly heard of Kurkjian, I have tried a few too. They are nice....pretty pricey though.
To each his own I had a sample of this couple years back and found it kind of boring Uninteresting dry down. I didn't get any black currant note cause I would love that. Maybe I'll try again cause its been years. Maybe I'll like it now you never know!?

Hmmm They both work so well in different types of weather, where I wear POAL in winter more and Cf in Summer more. If I HAVE to choose, I would always go with Portrait (argh..that's so difficult to say haha). I am overall a more "dark" fragrance lover so, POAL wins for me. It's just very unique. So super pricey yes which is a shame but did you know if you go to FM website, there is a link near the top called "find your signature" If you fill out the short questionnaire (mention you LOVE roses and Dark fragrances) they will suggest three samples for you to try, then I think for a small price you can get them shipped. It's worth a try, it worked for me and their samples are really gorgeous, they're 3ml in size I think. :) Let me know how you get on!

Ok, I got it... Wore it yesterday and today and it's beautiful, I like it. After a couple of hours, my hallways was still smelling of this perfume. Love the rose. Also received a small bottle of carnal flower.. not crazy about it.
I have to say this perfume was not what I expected. I ordered from scent split to try it (luckily they had some samples) and I found this smell to be horrifying lol.

Hello love I have Galliano’s fragrance I love it too, I have Lolita Lempicka eau de Minuit I believe it’s called I could be mistaken (it’s in the black and red apple bottle with a purple stem) this is a sweet haunting magical violet. I layer it Miller Harris- la fumee intense (very intense green incense) the result is basically identical x
The only fragrance I have smelled like this one is called Isparta 26 by Pierre Guillaume, and someone mentioned another one by Tiziana Terenzi called Porpora but I haven't tried that one.
Anyone know if DIOR or Chanel have something similar? Looove this So Much, just want something from them similar....plus not wearing this Pricetag everyday to work, store, etc. THANK You!!!

I will! Just got from my mail box, today, my new Putain des Palaces by État Libre d'Orange. Have you smelled that one? It was a blind buy, actually THE HELL OF A BLIND BUY, what a great perfume!!! Red roses, violet, baby powder, aldehydes, leather... it's sublime!
I haven't tried it. I've heard lots about it though. It sounds beautiful! I will definitely get a sample somehow. The fragrance from them I'd like to get is Divin Enfant. So unusual and soft. :)
Divin Enfant I haven't tried either. But just for an update, last night I really wore Putain des Palaces for the first time and haha, it was disappointing! First impression had been great, but full wear killed it. Turned just into some La Petite Robe Noire kind of fragrance. Pink, sweet, vague and annoying. Need to sell mine now LOL!
Haha the intro was how I feel about Ambre Narguile xD Actually most of my fragrances. My precioussss.... What should I get next, Slumberhouse Ore, TF Noir de Noir, or Van Cleef and Arpels Orchidee Vanille? I'm interested in Frederic Malle's take on perfumery (allowing the noses to create the perfumes THEY want to, rather than what the house wants), but I'm not sure where to start. Portrait of a Lady sounds beautiful, but I can't handle cinnamon... I mean I guess it wouldn't be a big deal if you can't smell it much, for example Plum Japonaise is too much. Up the wazoo... But no one says that hahaha. Now I'm deciding between this one and Carnal Flower >__>
+ehlesdee Well you will be fine, the cinnamon is very understated, I actually cannot really smell it at all. I'm not a lover of cinnamon in fragrances. Deffo try it out. Which do you like better? Tuberose? Or Rose?, that should be your deciding factor hehe. I am definitely getting Carnal Flower next.
Tuberos is amazing! It's a very heady, sometimes banana like flower. Very opulent. Carnal Flower is a good representation of it, also Do Son by Diptyque. It'shard to describe but I think it's the best flower in a perfume, just gorrrrgeous. :)
+Thandi M I haven't smelled it, should I? Is it similar to this one? I still have a few Byredo's to smell. Coromandel is wildly different from this, it's more of a gourmand woody fragrance, this is dry, dark patchouli. Ok I need to smell Black Saffron.
About byredo perfumes. There's a lot of raving about them, but you know I didn't like most of them ..I don't know! I do own bal d'afric it's ok not bad ..can be nauseous to some people because it's kind of strong in a way. Mojave ghost is ok also but other ones they were very woody and dry I am not into that. And I do have a feeling that I won't like portrait of a lady if it has the dry sense of humor. It has Oudh..hmm I'm not a big fan .. I don't know if it has the same spices as Arabie from serge luten, I do like this one
I absolutely LOVE M/Mink which is the real controversial one, I think it's amazing. I also would relly like to get Pulp (And will do eventually. It's on my radar! :) I think they are a bit hit and miss though. I need to try a few more out. :) I have also reviewed 1996 Inez & Vinoodh which was really lovely. :)

I smelled French Lover, smells like a forest, really green and tons of wood. I smelled Geranium Pour Monsieur, I didn't really like that. it's like a weird minty geranium. Just got back from Chanel, I bought the 200ml bottle of Coromandel, it's been on my want list for 5 years!!! bloody hell. Now it;s MINE! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

As the description says on their website, it took hundreds of alterations to perfect. After all the hype, i bought a 3 ml tester. Had extremely high hopes... until i sprayed it on my wrist. Best way to describe it is an old lady's rose perfume bottle that has sat on her dresser for years and has gotten stronger over the years. It's in-your-face rose. But not in a good way. It's harsh and almost gag reflex inducing rose. All the other notes take a back seat to the very harsh rose. Imagina an old lady's purse that had rose perfum spilled in it. Then set that purse in a corner where the sun shines in day after day for years. Old, musty, dusty, rose. There is NO way this is unisex, any man strolling by with this wretched rose stench wafting off of him would certainly turn heads, but for all the wrong reasons.
That's so strange, did you let it dry down properly?? Because patchouli and incense are massive in this fragrance too. It's very dark on my skin, and someone said I smelled like an Arabian Prince when I was wearing it. I get no old lady at ALL!!! haha.
Juniorverse me too. I went to Neiman Marcus and tried it, I was offered a sample but declined lol. Instead I took sample of the Dries van and rusc one. Maybe I will try it again!!! I used to hate Black Orchid until I waited for the dry down, now I love it
Hmm I own both and I don't think so, the only thing they share is incense. Epic is a super caraway cold spice and incense and this one is way more rosey and patchouli.

Ok, I got it... Wore it yesterday and today and it's beautiful, I like it. After a couple of hours, my hallways was still smelling of this perfume. Love the rose. Also received a small bottle of carnal flower.. not crazy about it.

I have to say this perfume was not what I expected. I ordered from scent split to try it (luckily they had some samples) and I found this smell to be horrifying lol.
Its okay, take your time. I didn’t like it at first as well. Fast forward 5 years, i have used 6 bottles 😂.

Hello love I have Galliano’s fragrance I love it too, I have Lolita Lempicka eau de Minuit I believe it’s called I could be mistaken (it’s in the black and red apple bottle with a purple stem) this is a sweet haunting magical violet. I layer it Miller Harris- la fumee intense (very intense green incense) the result is basically identical x
The only fragrance I have smelled like this one is called Isparta 26 by Pierre Guillaume, and someone mentioned another one by Tiziana Terenzi called Porpora but I haven't tried that one.

I will! Just got from my mail box, today, my new Putain des Palaces by État Libre d'Orange. Have you smelled that one? It was a blind buy, actually THE HELL OF A BLIND BUY, what a great perfume!!! Red roses, violet, baby powder, aldehydes, leather... it's sublime!
I haven't tried it. I've heard lots about it though. It sounds beautiful! I will definitely get a sample somehow. The fragrance from them I'd like to get is Divin Enfant. So unusual and soft. :)
Divin Enfant I haven't tried either. But just for an update, last night I really wore Putain des Palaces for the first time and haha, it was disappointing! First impression had been great, but full wear killed it. Turned just into some La Petite Robe Noire kind of fragrance. Pink, sweet, vague and annoying. Need to sell mine now LOL!

Haha the intro was how I feel about Ambre Narguile xD Actually most of my fragrances. My precioussss.... What should I get next, Slumberhouse Ore, TF Noir de Noir, or Van Cleef and Arpels Orchidee Vanille? I'm interested in Frederic Malle's take on perfumery (allowing the noses to create the perfumes THEY want to, rather than what the house wants), but I'm not sure where to start. Portrait of a Lady sounds beautiful, but I can't handle cinnamon... I mean I guess it wouldn't be a big deal if you can't smell it much, for example Plum Japonaise is too much. Up the wazoo... But no one says that hahaha.
Now I'm deciding between this one and Carnal Flower >__>
+ehlesdee Well you will be fine, the cinnamon is very understated, I actually cannot really smell it at all. I'm not a lover of cinnamon in fragrances. Deffo try it out. Which do you like better? Tuberose? Or Rose?, that should be your deciding factor hehe. I am definitely getting Carnal Flower next.

Tuberos is amazing! It's a very heady, sometimes banana like flower. Very opulent. Carnal Flower is a good representation of it, also Do Son by Diptyque. It'shard to describe but I think it's the best flower in a perfume, just gorrrrgeous. :)

+Thandi M I haven't smelled it, should I? Is it similar to this one? I still have a few Byredo's to smell. Coromandel is wildly different from this, it's more of a gourmand woody fragrance, this is dry, dark patchouli. Ok I need to smell Black Saffron.
About byredo perfumes. There's a lot of raving about them, but you know I didn't like most of them ..I don't know! I do own bal d'afric it's ok not bad ..can be nauseous to some people because it's kind of strong in a way. Mojave ghost is ok also but other ones they were very woody and dry I am not into that. And I do have a feeling that I won't like portrait of a lady if it has the dry sense of humor. It has Oudh..hmm I'm not a big fan .. I don't know if it has the same spices as Arabie from serge luten, I do like this one
I absolutely LOVE M/Mink which is the real controversial one, I think it's amazing. I also would relly like to get Pulp (And will do eventually. It's on my radar! :) I think they are a bit hit and miss though. I need to try a few more out. :) I have also reviewed 1996 Inez & Vinoodh which was really lovely. :)

I smelled French Lover, smells like a forest, really green and tons of wood. I smelled Geranium Pour Monsieur, I didn't really like that. it's like a weird minty geranium. Just got back from Chanel, I bought the 200ml bottle of Coromandel, it's been on my want list for 5 years!!! bloody hell. Now it;s MINE! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

+broadcastneo Hello! Ahhh no there isn't anything I've come across that comes close to this, this one is a masterpiece by one of the best perfumers in the world. As the description says on their website, it took hundreds of alterations to perfect. Really...it's bloody awesome. :) On a plus note...did you see that ACT 3 of Carnaval Diobolique has just been released? Ya know what this means? THE SNAKE PIT in it's entirety is available again. wheeeeeee!

After all the hype, i bought a 3 ml tester. Had extremely high hopes... until i sprayed it on my wrist. Best way to describe it is an old lady's rose perfume bottle that has sat on her dresser for years and has gotten stronger over the years. It's in-your-face rose. But not in a good way. It's harsh and almost gag reflex inducing rose. All the other notes take a back seat to the very harsh rose.
Imagina an old lady's purse that had rose perfum spilled in it. Then set that purse in a corner where the sun shines in day after day for years. Old, musty, dusty, rose.
There is NO way this is unisex, any man strolling by with this wretched rose stench wafting off of him would certainly turn heads, but for all the wrong reasons.
That's so strange, did you let it dry down properly?? Because patchouli and incense are massive in this fragrance too. It's very dark on my skin, and someone said I smelled like an Arabian Prince when I was wearing it. I get no old lady at ALL!!! haha.

Juniorverse me too. I went to Neiman Marcus and tried it, I was offered a sample but declined lol. Instead I took sample of the Dries van and rusc one. Maybe I will try it again!!! I used to hate Black Orchid until I waited for the dry down, now I love it

Hmm I own both and I don't think so, the only thing they share is incense. Epic is a super caraway cold spice and incense and this one is way more rosey and patchouli.
