    If memory serves,I believe the turbolift was positioned so you could see who was entering or exiting it as they were filming who was in the captain's chair,so they were kind of forced to show it that way when they came out with the blueprints.I THINK I may still have the Enterprise blueprints I purchased as a kid back around 75-76.I think Roddenberry gave this as an answer during a Q&A session after a showing of the original pilot that I attended in the 80's.I can't wait to see your finished model!

    The turbo-lift is off-centered because it was designed for camera blocking, It shows entering/exiting of actors without being blocked by the captain's chair. We only notice the offset because of multiple viewings of the episodes.

    • @scubawrestler
      @scubawrestler 5 років тому

      That's correct, it had nothing to do with the engineering of the Enterprise. It was purely stagecraft. In reality the bridge would have been straight forward. As fans, we are often too literal when it comes to the show.

    This is going to be a thing of beauty! Boyd FYI about the orientation of the Bridge, I’ve spoken extensively with Mike & Denise Okuda about this. The bridge being off center is a 1970’s Franz Joseph invention and is not considered correct. They have it direct from Matt Jeffries that the bridge faces directly forward and was always intended that way. The only reason the turbo lift doors don’t line up with the shaft on the rear of the bridge shell is because prior to filming the pilot, the camera and stage crew swapped the communications and turbo lift bridge segment wedges around so whoever was coming through the doors wouldn’t be obstructed by the Captain in his chair, when viewed from the principle camera location....

    There's no way that Matt Jefferies or anybody intended for the bridge to be at a 45 degree angle inside the bridge dome. It's a production error, pure and simple. Fans have drawn plans this way (and I believe some were officially published) in an attempt to resolve the discontinuity, but I prefer to imagine that the protruding turbo shaft serves another purpose. One theory I read is that it's for storing a reserve turbolift or two so crewmembers can quickly evacuate or multiple people can arrive in rapid succession.

  • @gordon5004
    @gordon5004 5 років тому +1

    A beautiful job so far. I tell myself that the bump on the outside of deck one is the captain's turbolift cabin. It is always there behind Lt.Uhura's station when the captain is on the bridge. That way he never has to wait and the bridge is straight, in my version.

  • @charlesforbin6937

    I'm pretty sure the bridge is done with an SLA Resin printer....try to get the Galileo done the same way, it can be printed hollow maybe save you some time...also Lou Dalmaso is building a 66" Enterprise on his channel, it's armature is also acrylic and he's got the color spot on in automotive paint (magine that)....think he has the code for the perfect shade of green....Awesome job Boyd.

    If you look on your comments from the first video you made about it. I tell you the scale of the model if it is truly 72 inches. I also mentioned the scale for the model if it is 71 inches as the manufacture source claims. As far as the figures would be concerned there would be less than a 1% difference so it wouldn't be noticeable to the human eye anyway. If You missed it, or cant find it I'll type it again. At 72 inches the scale is 158. a shit load of numbers to the 7th decimal point but rounds out so close to 158 the other numbers are not worth mentioning. If the model is really 71 inches as the kits creator claims then the scale is 160.25 and again more decimal places but the closest round off is the .25.
    Anyway damn good job and I look so forward to the build as you are a pro at model building. I cant wait to get my Action video software working again so I can start showing the builds that I am working on.

    Hello. I have been consuming your videos. I love Star Trek and would like to try to make a TOS Enterprise. Do you know how a TOTAL newbie would start?

    Please excuse me for asking... *"BC Deck"?*
    By the way, *Thanks, for really impressing upon me, the amazing detail of this model!* That little clear piece sitting there with your *bridge dome,* had me confused, until you finally *exposed that it was actually the INTERIOR of THE BRIDGE of the USS ENTERPRISE!*

    • @TrekWorks

      They call the decks just below the bridge the B and C decks.

    The bridge is at an angle so that Kirk’s chair could be filmed with people entering and leaving the turbo lift in the same shot.

    Nice how about a couple of red laser pointers for the phasers

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  5 років тому

      Lasers are cool but I'm not going to put any in for a couple reasons. First, the ones that are powerful enough to be seen have a short life span. They get hot! Second, the phasers actually emit from the lower sensor dome on the tv show. You can drill holes in the saucer a little above that to fit them in but it just doesn't look right.

      Hi if you want to see what lasers look like on all Enterprises go to the KIT FACTORY with Simon Mercs he does it to most of his Enterprise builds and looks stunning.

      @TrekWorks  5 років тому

      @@jasonkristunas9427 Yes I have. it does look cool but like I said the darn things just don't last very long and once you seal the model up, there's no getting back in there to replace them without doing major surgery.

    The official size of the 2260s configuration Constitution class is just a hair over 11,362 inches long, which makes this approximately 1:158 scale.

      @@TrekWorks Oh, the full thing would be cool, but I was thinking something like 1/350 or smaller that was made to have all the neat features of the studio model. Then again I guess all it would be is a regular Enterprise with no detail and some wires on one side.
