Im samoan, but I gotta say that New Zealand is my home, I truly love New Zealand, everything about it the music the people the All Blacks, God bless this country.
I love this song and video always have done. Kiwi here UK since 2000. My mother died last year and we all miss her. Brother in Australia. Dad alone in NZ. I have always missed home. I left NZ but my heart didn't. Underestimated how its not easy being away permanently. Returned in 2009, 2019 & twice in 2023. God bless all who read this and have ever partied on a kiwi beach back in their youth music, fun and no parents around...chur. 😊🎉❤ love each other, dont drink & drive. Be safe. Know when to call it a night and get home. This from someone who often was on the last late train home in Wellington - Tawa. What was i thinking?! Back in the 90's. Nightlife was a blast..
I'm a white kiwi boy living in the U.K. now. My old mate died 14th December 2023. Best friend you could wish for. He played a big part of my younger years. Back in the mid to late 80's we were rolling in style (in my Holden premier V8) all around the north shore. You could hear me coming a few miles away. Off course my neighbours loved me. :) We went every where in that car. I must have woken up thousands of people over the years. We took a few Road trips, we even cruised up to his marae (ngapuhi) and that's why I like this song. It takes me back to that road trip, where we stayed the night at his marae (up north) it was great, didn't get much sleep because of the snoring, but I was impressed with the hospitality extended to anyone who belonged to his tribe. And my old mate treated me like his brother. I can only remember being straight once around him. I think that was when I was his best man at his wedding. We was big into herbs, ahem. We were almost like family. So this is for you Charlie. Ka kite (your white brother from another mother). Until we meet again brother.
Thanks for sharing Tony. What a good story of you and your brother Charlie. I felt like i was there in your v8 listening to this song. YOZA from NGAPUHI! Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui!
Thanks for sharing this. Same here kiwi in the UK. Miss NZ and the good times I had. Wellington, Napier were my places. Had a great new year's at Omaha near Warkworth one year. I moved here in 2000 but my heart never left NZ. Ever. My mother died last October. I returned in June to say goodbye and see her for the last time.. flying out of Napier was hard. I sat looking out the window thinking I need to be here. Wife and teenage boys need me in the UK. So back I came.
❤️💛💙🖤 miss you NZ! Aloha from Hawaii from your NZ born Tongan blood son. Back then NZ was all about helping neighbors and making a living not making money.Times have changed.
I scoured record shops in New Zealand looking for any albums by Herbs when I was on a fabulous holiday there. I found a brand new CD of Herbs, Listen...the very best of... for NZ$ 19.99 in a very small coastal town near Dunedin on the South Island...what a result...a truly great band. The fact that Charlie Tumahai was also in Herbs is a added bonus to a Be Bop Deluxe fan such as me. Made me realise how good a musician and what truly wonderful guy he was. Sadly missed
One of the most beautiful written and sung tunes to come out of Aotearoa..it will either make you smile or cry or both...with.a mean vid to boot !..Herbs with Charlie at the helm, pure majic to the ears..thanks for this gift Charlie and Herbs..its really cool to checkout Charlie here on youtube from when he was in the UK playin in Be Bop Deluxe in the 70s..priceless
Was i really 8 yrs old when this came out, dam my grandfather was still alive; man I remember watching this on the TV with my nan and grand dad, we all loved this song. My grandad passed when I was 15 (broke my heart) and now in 2021 my nan is gone too 💔 😢. Good times thou, good times. Both gone but I will never forget until my dying breath.
Far out! This song will always remind me of a simpler & easy going time as a child. Herbs you guys are too much. Aroha mai ki te whanau a Charlie Tumahai R.I.P. Thank you very much KneesTease
This brings back so many memories from heartland New Zealand - a special place. Although I now live abroad, I will never forget my years in Ngaruawahia and the community we had.
I am Pakeha but grew up and lived in Rotorua among the Maori. Brian Hodgson from Western Heights Primary School...Eminent Te Arawa (honorary)Elder and Taha Maori Scholar. Him and Reverend Green from St Faith's at Ohinemutu were a huge influence on me! And Rev. Warren Foster as well, and Mihiterina Hohepa and Hiko Hohepa...Okay, enough name dropping! Hei Konei Ra, Ki Tenei Ra Kotou!
Been all over the world, live in Aus now, seriously considering moving back now. New Zealand is by far, with an unbiased point of view, the best little country on this planet. Jesus, we don't realise how good us kiwis have it until we leave. Sure the economy isn't that great, but man, who needs money when you've Aotearoa, the land and it's people.
As a kiwi living in Aussie I’m Proud to be a kiwi, proud of the Maori heritage, as a pakeha kiwi it amazes me how badly the Australians treat there indigenous people, nz isn’t perfect by any means but I still feel we are in a better place
brings back memories of New Zealand in the 80s as a teenager. Saw Herbs supporting Neil Young at Western Springs Stadium. Best concert I've ever been to.
These are the feelings from ourer hearts in 2021 Aotearoa. You servived 2020 you can now adapt to surviving what's too come & there's more to come I can imagine yet too come.
Positive music, remember it back in the day. I bought the album "Long Ago" when I was 9, but I know this was later (1987). Helps to remind me I am Maori.
met them in 1990 at paraparaumu pub one morning as they past through from a gig in Wellington ...shared a huge joint with them... will never forget the love they had for a skinny white boy... kiwis love kiwis... we are always one people xx
Back 2 skool - correct name is 'Ruatorea'.( the pit of the torea bird) The word ruatoria came about from an address misprint at the town post office many years ago. The ole people of the area know. Keep cool till after skool Oh... & beautiful song Herbs, magic tunes!
