Loved this production so much but I will note that every Megamix video seems to show Electra missing various spiky parts of their costume. When I saw it, parts fell off before the entire shoulder portion was lost. That was after the other spike was in Slick Oil’s mouth then snagged on Greaseball’s costume during One Rock N Roll Too Many. Only a matter of time before an eye injury happens. At this stage maybe reduce them down to a more manageable size, or repurpose them upward. It’s getting a little ridiculous.

Is the pantaloon trousers on only some of the performers because they do more tricks so have padding underneath? Help me make sense of these costumes…

If they could do all this on a cruise ship I want the company name 😂

Poor Starlight Express. It fell into the wrong hands of a creative team unable to match or surpass the original version. From an impressive setup it became an austere workshop for beginners. In a new era to take advantage of the opportunity to improve and innovate Andrew Lloyd Webber's musicals as happened with Sunset Boulevard in the UK and now "Cats: The Jellicle Ball" in NY, Starlight will go unnoticed and forgettable in a matter of weeks. Broadway wouldn't want this on their marquees.

Have you seen this show I think not then your comments don't really count much. See it then you can comment you can't judge a show from the 1 minute clip.

@@highlandwhite5401don’t worry. Now we are half of the comment section who loves this show. I went to see this on opening night and I was blown away by it’s twists. While there are some things I don’t agree with I still loved the show regardless.

At least we have the show in Germany (I hope it gets taped someday), I get the feeling that since ALW can't make new interesting shows (and treat his actors well) he just try to reignite the old ones :c

This amazing production shouldn’t be judged by a handful of Megamix videos on UA-cam. It’s incredible in person with more heart than has been seen in any version since the 1992 changes in London. It’s frankly astonishing, but I guess you have to be there.

Agreed. I saw it in week one. It’s entertaining enough, and well worth a visit, but it’s a pale (or, rather, an icy-cold neon-lit) imitation of the Apollo Victoria and Bochum productions. The character changes have really messed the show up. They gave CB’s and Dustin’s parts to the new characters, but only changed a few lyrics in the stuff they sing. There’s no character build-up in Act 1, so when Slick Oil suddenly starts playing the bad girl in Act 2, it’s like they’ve thrown an NPC into the mix. And why does she scupper everyone’s chances in the race just to stop Rusty winning? CB put on the brakes to stop Rusty and just Rusty. There’s almost no indication that Greaseball and Dinah are an item in Act 1 - in the original choreography, Dinah and Greaseball dance a jive together in Pumping Iron. In the new version, the choreography is so static that Greaseball just waves her arms around a lot and rolls here and there. (And Greaseball, that really isn’t how you show off your pecs 😱. What you do has rather vulgar connotations). When Greaseball couples with Pearl in Act 2, there’s no apparent reason why Dinah starts sobbing hysterically. And they don’t even take their bows together at the end. The costumes and choreography appear to have been done by people with little or no experience of roller skating, and some of the costumes look downright dangerous for people on wheels. Bits of Electra’s costume fell off during the show on the night I saw it and the inflatable spikes 🙄 on the Component in front of the “Trackside” balcony (a potential case of mis-selling in itself) nearly poked someone’s eye out in the front row.
It’s an entertaining evening, worth a visit - don’t worry about sitting further back as it’s a small performance space and you won’t be far away from the action - but it’s a huge step down from the current Bochum production.
