  • In the aftermath of WWII, most Nazi leaders managed to escape international justice. Many flew to South America, but there is another destination that remained little-known until now: the Middle-East. What ties did the Nazis have to that region? What local activities and organizations were they involved in?
    Thanks to the combined efforts of historians, witnesses and former Nazi officers, and building on exceptional access to German State archives, the film sheds new light on this secret hideout and on the active role of Arab leaders who deliberately recruited Nazis. The Syrian and Egyptian governments wanted to take advantage of their know-how to rebuild their armies and intelligence services in order to fight against Israel. Key contributors include Walter Rauff, an SS officer who was hired by Damascus to recruit from amongst his former comrades-in-arms; Gerhard Mertins, a former Waffen-SS officer who trained Egyptian guerrillas in Cairo, and Johann von Leers, known later as Omar Amin, who served as a high-ranking propaganda ministry official in Egypt.

    Fascinating and full of information that I had no idea about. Galen I knew about, but the Interpol 'neutrality' was quite new. The observation about Suez was spot on, and one can see so much of the fallout happening right now. Superb doco. Thanks.

    Hugely educational and depressing how the WWII for all the carnage the major winning countries allowed and failed to robustly hunt down and punish racist Nazis. Thank you this is an education.

      there are already videos on "Larry Thorn" but I'm guessing you want to know about former Wehrmacht and SS involvement in Tiger Force, MACVSOG, M.I.K.E FORCE etc. ?? best of luck finding that information. It is true but heavily guarded secrets. Lots of former German military and volunteers in the Hamilton and Dundas, Ontario area, most are passed away now but they had some interesting stories.

    The post war chase was ultimately a public demonstration of intent and principles (good and bad). Eichmann's trial for instance was hugely important for wider understanding of the reality of these incredible events, perhaps only possible with the remove of enough time.

      What’s the big deal? They were war prisoners not common criminals
      The church has a duty not to pick sides
      If the allies lost the war then the church would do the same for allied political prisoners

    • @DaveSCameron
      @DaveSCameron 5 місяців тому

      I’m not sure it was accepted but what were the Western countries supposed to do, the Middle East was and is a collection of Anglo-French sovereign nations created post #WW1 , Sykes-Picot, and just like the USSR it was nearly impossible to place spies in those countries and don’t forget that even a decade after #WW2 there was little political will to go nazi hunting, everyone wanted to forget that horror. Best wishes.📚☘️

      There were thousands of them also..they were the high society of Germany. They most certainly weren't hanging around in Germany while the ussr controlled it. They also went going anywhere where the ussr could easily get them. They had to go somewhere. Most of them were also good people not psychopathic mass murderers as the propaganda made them all to be.

    Is not it ironic that Nazis considered Slavs as a subrace, for example, and yet had allies in Japan and in Arabic states?

    • @heatherhinde6544

      They also thought arabs were a sub race...but it was CONVENIENT to create allies over the Middle East to support their war against the British and their allies. That was the only reasons for their attitude towards the arabs.

      Pragmatism and shared geopolitical interests. Colonial powers also worked with some local indigenous groups, while fighting against the struggle for self-determination of the local population, because they needed local allies (or proxies or assets). Divide and conquer was always part of imperial ambitions.
      Sometimes geopolitical or economic interests (temporarily) overwrite racial or political ideology. Look how USA supported the USSR during WWII, despite their stance against Bolshevism.
