Ironically, it was this result more than anything that probably helped Collingwood win the premiership in 1990. They thrashed West Coast in the replay the following week and entered the second-semi full of momentum, against an Essendon team that, by virtue of topping the ladder, had not played for 22 days - an unheard of length of time. It showed. Collingwood then got a week off at the best time to get it, entered the grand final well-rested, and the rest is history.
The AFL introduced extra time in drawn finals after this season, so this sequence of events will never happen again.
Fun fact: if Collingwood win the premiership this year (2023), it will be the first season they've won 100% of the finals they've played since 1953!

Hey mate, if you're still interested in making videos...I was wondering if you could possibly find footage of the 1975 VFL Preliminary Final between North Melbourne and Richmond at VFL Park. I've never been able to find footage of it on the internet.
I was in the crowd was a long ride home was much happier driving home after the rest of the games that season it's time pies to go again
This was an era when the umpires didn't blow the whistle every five seconds. And we didn't have to put up with those stupid welcome to country ceremonies.
