By the way, Pavarotti was a big fan of Elvis’s! He said that Elvis could easily do what he does but he could never do what Elvis could do!

Elvis sings this operatic love song to perfection, the quality, power & range of his voice is just incredible. I think it's such a shame that so many people only associate him with songs like Hound Dog & Heartbreak Hotel, they will never know how truly versatile Elvis was. He could easily adapt his voice to many genres of music such as Rock, Country, Rockabilly, R&B, Gospel & Operatic songs such as this one today. Elvis was the most talented vocalist to ever walk this earth & I don't think there will ever be words to describe just how amazing he really was!
Great reaction, really enjoyed this Nick!

Hi Nick, a bit of information on Surrender. It is an adaptation by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman of the music of a 1902 Neapolitan ballad by Giambattista and Ernesto de Curtis entitled "Torna a Surriento" ("Come Back to Sorrento"). It hit number one in the US and UK in 1961 and eventually became one of his best-selling singles. Presley held the record for most consecutive number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 before 1966.
Surrender was the only secular song Elvis recorded on 30 October 1960. Elvis recorded 15 tracks on tracks at this one day recording session, for his first gospel album His Hand In Mine.

Elvis after coming back proved to everyone that he was not just a teenage rock & roller. This and the movies expanded his appeal to adults and made him a wholesome entertainer.

Yeah, Surrender is one of my favorites , but the problem of being an Elvis fan is that there are SO MANY favorites ...People ask, well, what is your favorite Elvis song of all , and again , an Elvis fan usually can't give an answer because there are SO MANY !

This song is the epitome of short and sweet! Elvis had such a range, not just notewise but emotionally too, and he showcases both in this masterpiece! You can feel the power certainly but there's also some light pleading before he pulls out the big guns of that final powerful crescendo! Fantastic song, and another great reaction!

Thanks Nick for reacting to Surrender, it's a hidden gem nowadays. I liked your reaction very very much. I think when the first Bond movie was made a year after, they borrowed that beginning to the Bond theme.
If you like this early 60's Elvis for faster paced songs like Surrender, try Such A Night from 1963, he also sang a snippet of it in 1970.
If you wanna go ballad, there's a beautiful hidden gem from 1961 Starting Today studio version only.

Just amazing - what couldn't he sing - he was such a fantastic entertainer there will never be another Elvis - wish the song was a bit longer that's the only thing about songs in the 50s and 60s - much too short - it was on Elvis's Gold Records Vol 3.

That's the beauty of having recorded music , you can play a song over and over ...and over again as many times as you want . So, we can take a 2 minute song and make it an hour long song if we want to . I've had MANY Elvis 45s and albums in my lifetime and quite a few of them I've worn out playing them so much . Elvis has sold over A BILLION records , and now we know WHY ....Like me, many fans have played Elvis songs so much the've worn out the records , so, we have to go buy the records all over again . Lol !

The James Bond Music was inspired by Elvis's "Surrender".
Fun Fact, Elvis Wanted to Play "James Bond" but Colonel Parker as usual got in the way.
Try "It's Now Or Never" and "Suspicion" Official Audio both from the 1960's. ❤❤❤

Aside from Elvis, Elton John &
    Peter Frampton
    Frampton was my favorite.
    Everyone had his album
    FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE
If you were a teenager and didn't have this album, you had to be living on Mars
His guitar playing was an out of body experience. That album reached #1 all over the world.
I hope you listened to it.
    You have to.if you haven't

Elvis and his very versatile lyrical baritone voice. He was a Mario Lanza fan so there might be some Mario Lanza in there. The period 1960-62 is very rich in good ballads performed In a masterful way.

Here's an interesting story about that song, heard this several times: Elvis was having trouble hitting that last high note. Tried and tried with no luck. Finally, one of the backup singers told him to push the note out from his gut...as if he was uh, heaving! It worked!

Loved that. Recently I found these two Gospel songs Elvis did - no live version and only audio. His vocal range in Surrender reminded me of these two songs. Would love for you to react to them. ua-cam.com/video/9tEHH73WyPI/v-deo.html ( Miracle of the Rosary) and ua-cam.com/video/Cd7tTKG0cbs/v-deo.html (Lords Prayer). Thanks.
