this was so useful thank you :D my bromeliad was a gift from a friend and i was worried that the browning blooms were me killing it! i guess it's more like the mother plant is retiring then, but im not sure how to deal with the new pups? will they need separating and propogating or will they simply take the place of the dying plant without me doing anything?
Lovely video! I understand the dying process takes time but I’m concerned because my bromeliad lost color within 2 weeks of purchase and I cannot tell if that’s the normal seasonal change or if something is wrong.
I have a bromeliad (with striped leaves), but I only got this (for free) when the bloom was already wilted. I thought it was budding, silly me. Anyways, there are no pups, but I'm just starting to see the brown edges and spots on the leaves. The flower has been long gone. Would there still be pups growing in the next months, or have I been given a dying, barren bromelia?
My bromeliad mother flowered but didn't die. It just never flowered again. Instead, it has continued to produce babies. The babies have since flowered and kept the cycle going. None of them have died after flowering. I'm wondering if I have a variety that doesn't die, if there is such a thing?
Hi Nell, thank you for these videos they are so helpful! I wish I educated myself more about taking care of bromeliads before I purchased them. I am new to gardening and I am not very knowledgeable about plants at all. 🙈😖 I pretty much did everything wrong with my bromeliads. 1. I planted them outside in direct sunlight. 2. I think I over watered them. ( Thinking they are tropical so they need a lot of water). My plants lost its color in 2 days of purchasing them. And even the bottom leaves turned halfway brown. Your videos have been so helpful that I unplanted them and put them back in their pots and put them in the shade. Can my plants be saved? They seem to be doing a little better now that they are in the shade and only get morning sun but still haven't got its color back. And one of them have two pups on it. Thank you for your help!
Sounds like the plant has finished the bloom period of its life cycle! If the outer leaves are still healthy, you should cut the bloom stalk off like in this video so your bromeliad can put all its energy into growing pups :)
Maybe don't be so rude. Everyone has a different taste and some people, like me, like it better when it feels less like a commercial and more like your neighbour talking to you.

Will my plant die... I cut all the crown leaves off because it had crown rot and I couldn't get it to go away.
Lovely video!

Hi MK - Thank you! Sounds like your bromeliad was older when you bought it. If the small white flowers are just starting to appear, that's best. Nell
So my bromeliads leaves are also curling sideways, it that supposed to happen?
Mine too! Looks bad 🙃
@@greener336 lmao yeah i noticed there are pups on my leaves so im pretty sure its natural now

Nell, is there any Bromelaids, that can take full sun, and are drought tolerant??
My bromeliads just started to bloom. Now I know what to do once the they will reach this stage.
your video was very helpful. i am a new botanist
So what happens after the mother plant dies?
Can I ask why just the flower is turning brown on my bromeliad? I'd love to send you a picture! My thumb just isnt quite green yet!
