I have the Big Buddy heater and it works great! I bought the 12’ hose so that I could use a 20# tank and use it to heat my 10’x14’ tent when camping. During the winter I heat my office space in the shop with it. What a great product.
I’m going on a camping trip up in the smokies... I have a four person Ozark trail tent that I’ll have a cot in... my tent isn’t good in the wind it goes straight through even with all the tent windows closed... It’ll be about 35-40 degrees. And I’m going for two nights... I like the looks of the big one and the versatility. But I’m afraid the big one will be too hot and take up too much space. Not sure how tall my tent is but I suppose it has enough clearance... so you think the little one will be enough?
I've used a big buddy for about 3 years. I use a 20 lbs tank with 12 ft hose #F273702 and Filter #F273699 I change the filter every year and have had no issues so far. I mostly use the low setting and run it 12-15 hours per day I get a week or longer on the 20lb tank. It was listed on the box that it would run 25-110 hrs on a single 20lb tank. I have been very pleased with mine and would not be without it. The temp here is usually in the 20's or 30's. In colder climates I may have to turn it up.
I have read if you buy the Mr. Heater hose you will not need a filter on Buddy heaters because the hose is manufactured with a substance that does not leach oil. If you use hoses other than Mr. heater hoses, you will need a filter.
Regarding the filter topic you can use a propane regulator device Or the ones that comes with the quick connect that has with the regulator built into it you dont have to buy the filters, according to buddy heater the filter would be good for one season use only. If you look into the quick connect that big buddy recommends you can confirm my statement. Thanks for sharing, best regards.

Okay Katy Hill Farmer, question/opinion.....my son works at a golf course in TN and I was aiming to get the Little Buddy golf cart one you have in this video but hear it tips out of the cup holder, so I'm thinking couldn't he put the portable Buddy on the floor board in the cart and not have "as much" tip over?? If you watch TRACT SUPPLY CO. they run them on sale i got my BIG BUDDY and yes it was the BIG BUDDY duel burner and dual tanks with a fan for 89.00 bucks right after black Friday this year 2020
If I run mine using the bottles on high, the bottles ice up and it shuts off. On low and medium it’s totally fine tho. I use a hose and a 20 pound tank
Nothing like a Big Buddy Heater, I I I I had a detached unheated un insulated one car garage in upstate NY, with workbench and it didn’t matter what the temperature was outside it be 63 cozy degrees in there🔥
buy a filter if you use a 20lb tank, along with a Mr. Buddy 12 foot hose. the heater isn't built to take high pressure from the 20lb tank. the hose knocks the pressure down to acceptable levels, and the filter keeps out the oils emitted from the rubber o-rings that would otherwise clog it.
The answers here are partial correct. Propane appliances run at 11" WC, which is less than 1 PSI. The Buddy heaters have a regulator, which is used for the 1 lb. cylinders as well as a 20 pounder with hose. Those cylinders are around 200 psi depending on the ambient temperature. The standard rubber adapter hose for connecting to a 20 lb. cylinder does leak oils and requires a filter. There is an alternate hose that is a better material not requiring a filter which is P/N F273704.
I don't understand why people buy Mr.. Buddy heaters when the sunflower style Mr. Heater can be bought for $30, it's all metal, much more portable and lightweight and even has a built in rack for cooking.
@@Katyhillfarmer I might be willing to buy the Buddy heater if there is something better about it compared to the less expensive sunflower style. I'm actually curious whar makes it so popular. But if its more money for less features I wouldn't. Anyway, good video.
@@Katyhillfarmer From what I’ve seen the sunflower style rests directly on top of the 20lb propane tank. That’s a little unsafe and won’t work inside a tent or a small camper. That’s probably why mr heater is so popular
I have a Big Buddy, and it has no noise on low. Try squirting some carburetor cleaner through it. And yeah, I just bought 2 15lb tanks, a 5ft hose, a T-connector kit, and a bottle adapter for refills.

I bought the Little Buddy on Dec. 21 and went to use it for the first time yesterday for an upcoming fishing trip. Guess what? The darn thing doesn't work. The return policy of the store is 30 days and it's now been 33 days. I can hold the button for several minutes but the moment I let go the pilot goes out. I am not at all happy with Mr. Heater right now! Do they not test these in the factory?
I have the medium one and the small one I bought yesterday. The small one worked for one canister. Now won't work. I paid $151 canadian from home hardware! I'm more than peed off!

Thanks Dave to be honest this was like my first video which turned out bad to say the least and took off on youtube i know my luck lol but please take a look at the channel other videos of the buddy heaters which turned out pretty good
Hi, Thanks so much on your great review. You have me sold to buy a big buddy. I'm going to be boon docking in my coversion van for the first time this winter. Kept hashing around on the best propane heater to heat that space. Thanks again brother.
Just make sure you have damn good ventilation,as in all windows open, or eventuall you will feel the affects of the Co. I know this from experience ...Bad headaches, and feeling very lethargic in the morning. Alot of these you tube videos that say everything is fine are done in tents or blinds where fresh air is free flowing
I have a 4Runner and sometimes sleep in it while traveling and camping. Would you trust the small heater on the passenger floorboard with the windows cracked?
personally no i would not but i am a heavy sleeper but i will say it would do the job for you thanks for watching and hope you subscribe to the channel this video was like my first video and not very good
Buddy heaters have a low oxygen sensor that will turn the unit off. It is designed to used indoors also. Just keep a little air flow like you wpuld regardless. If in doubt, buy a battery operated C02 detector as backup.
@@Katyhillfarmer you can use the little buddy heater on the floor just make sure you have enough distance for the roof so it don't get to hot I use it in my Honda wagon works great keeps me warm

Sammy depends on where your from but I would probably go with the big buddy the fan I think would help you a lot more check out the links in the description and best part you can find them on sale this time of year
@@GF-pc5bt Just because he works in HVAC does not mean he knows his camping equipment such as a BigBuddy. Nor would he typically air condition or heat the OUTDOORS with home HVAC equipment.
They don't like the super cold and they waste propane. The thermocouple isn't calibrated properly in the cold so it causes the flickering sound and the regulator rattle. They're awesome at certain temperatures but here again if it gets too cold sometimes even the tile itself will only partially glow. The little buddy at 32 Fahrenheit the round tile finally heats up in 5 minutes after the pilot light is on. For the first 5 minutes it's only the pilot light and then the blue propane flame begins to pool over the tile slowly heating it. And then finally after 10 minutes it fully glows red. On the initial fire up it actiually makes annoying tick sounds and the flame shudders really bad. Warmer temps it fires right up and is good. Tweaking it doesn't do anything. It's the thickness of the tile in the center that takes forever to heat in the cold. A steel mesh system is better. However these things waste fuel. Clever design but not economical. Cold propane flow through these units is terrible when it's cold.
Thank you .. I just found a factory reconditioned from cabelas for $49.99 + 8.00 for fast shipping ... How long does the little propane tank last ??? How many hours ???
Here's the difference: The little buddy is a personal heater. It'll heat you up. The big buddy is a space heater. It'll heat up a space for many people.
Don’t even need it on high run longer The mechanics 🧰 edge its little impurities residue from propane dots all rest on the metal tics keep me at 55-60 I’m good
could I use a force heater in my fully insulated 3 car garage about 630 sq ft with 8 ft ceilimgs for Christmas? I have a pool table in there and we will probably be playing pool during Christmas. I have some gaps around garage doors and also a 3 to 4 gap under door that goes to yard. So I don't know if this will be enough ventilation? I know force heaters are loud but we will have the music playing:) eventually I will get probably a Mr cool 18000 btu minisplit system to heat and cool garage. I also have a gym in there. I live in Clovis ca with a zone 9b I think

If I could do it over I would have brought the bigger buddy the little one is nice but now I have to buy another one and at just a $10 dollar difference no-brainer. I’ll use the little one on milder days.
you could I would think you would have to use the buddy or big buddy heater and sevure it somehow and still think you would have to be genital with it because of the senor that shuts them down if they tip over
My mr heater makes that flickering noise right before it runs out. And those 1lb green bottles don’t last for chit. Not even 2 hrs on high. Gotta use the hose adapter to the 20lb tank. And you say you’re from the northeast but that isn’t a northeast accent.
@@FinehomesofNewHampshire I just use it for a few minutes to knock the chill off. The heater in it does it fine. Do carry it for my tent, but just used getting dressed
Yes, I have four or them and they are problematic. I just got one of my little buddy heaters out of the case and it is doing the same as the other one. I can push the button and get a nice pilot light but I can't get it to work after I release the button unless the heater is warm to start with and them I try many times. My big buddy won't be used because it leaks inside somewhere and is dangerous. I don't want that thing leaking in there until the gas builds up and and gets lit where it shouldn't again. The best one is the first one that I bought and is the 4-9k BTU model that still has the push button ignition. I have used them many times successfully but I don't like being cold because my heater is being a pain in the butt.
Depending on the date of manufacture, there was a recall for the leaking issue. I believe you can go to their website and check the serial numbers of the recalled units (only the big buddy’s I believe). Mine was replaced due to the recall.
WTactualF. If it takes you enough time to actually need a heater to go to the bathroom you just need to eat more fiber and drink more water. Save your money on a heater.
@@Katyhillfarmer might try to insulate it somehow and give it another try. I know guys with lp ice augers had the same issues. Think I remember a heated bottle sleeve.

Great Santini What did you expect, you're almost 2 miles above sea level. The oxygen sensor was reading a very low amount of oxygen and shutting the heater down, so you didn't die from breathing pure propane. Was the O2 sensor adjustable?

there's video on suggesting to use a filter or if not it will clog up the gas line. so I think that's what just happened to your's . gonna have to find a way to unclog it. if you use a 12 foot hose then you don't need a filter added. if it's less then 12 foot hose then you will need a filter on. I am still learning it too.
i have a filter on mine
Excellent review overall. Going to buy a little buddy heater for our Arizona high country camping.
Have fun! it will keep your warm
Thoughts?

If you watch TRACT SUPPLY CO. they run them on sale i got my BIG BUDDY and yes it was the BIG BUDDY duel burner and dual tanks with a fan for 89.00 bucks right after black Friday this year 2020
good deal right there thanks for sharing on my channel hope you subscribe
If I run mine using the bottles on high, the bottles ice up and it shuts off. On low and medium it’s totally fine tho. I use a hose and a 20 pound tank
i have had that happen also when really cold out damn propane lol thanks for watching
Nothing like a Big Buddy Heater, I I I I had a detached unheated un insulated one car garage in upstate NY, with workbench and it didn’t matter what the temperature was outside it be 63 cozy degrees in there🔥
Peter Motta that’s pretty good for the temperature you guys get
Does the big buddy heater come with a propane tank bottle 1 pd..or do we have to buy it desperately and where at?
You have to purchase everything separately
Megan DiRando you can buy them almost anywhere Walmart target sams etc
Peter Motta thanks for your reply and watching
buy a filter if you use a 20lb tank, along with a Mr. Buddy 12 foot hose. the heater isn't built to take high pressure from the 20lb tank. the hose knocks the pressure down to acceptable levels, and the filter keeps out the oils emitted from the rubber o-rings that would otherwise clog it.
okay thanks for the info
The hose dont knock the pressure down the regulator does and u dont need filter if u have a regulator before hose
Jason Kennedy most people say the filter is a must because it cleans the propane
Lol you don’t need a 12 foot hose, you need a regulator to knock down pressure.

Heater can be bought for $30, it's all metal, much more portable and lightweight and even has a built in rack for cooking.
you make a great point and i cant answer that thanks for stopping by hope you subscribe to the channel
@@Katyhillfarmer I might be willing to buy the Buddy heater if there is something better about it compared to the less expensive sunflower style. I'm actually curious whar makes it so popular. But if its more money for less features I wouldn't. Anyway, good video.
@@JM-nh8yp Thanks and this was my first video that went kinda viral but i am going to have to get a sunflower heater and to a comparison video
@@Katyhillfarmer
From what I’ve seen the sunflower style rests directly on top of the 20lb propane tank.
Mine has the same but the deer don’t pay any attention to it

Thanks for the suggestion I will try to remember this in the future
don't trust reviews anymore every review out there says differant things about products
my advise (use your gut feeling)... its the only way to review 👍🏼
I agree to a certain point i read or watch reviews on everything but that's just me
I bought the Little Buddy on Dec.

I got mine on a 20lb bottle now and love it video coming soon like this week but should get about 40 hours on high

There is so much draft in a tent, garage, or outside workshop that the CO isn’t really an issue from this little unit. It’s not like a car exhaust.

Make a grid unit for shops that fit right on the tank in a cabinet that’s not buddy brand though , grid ceramic propane best heat
i agree the fan does not do much for the unit
Is it normal to smell propane I didnt crossthread it but I've tried multiple canisters n it still has an odor is that normal ? It's new only used it 1 time
at first when lighting it yes but after its lit you should not smell none
I had both setup for big propane tanks

Does buddy sell longer hose for 20lb an filter etc. Cause other brands hose ends up cracking.
not sure i got a 20ft from them
I have a question, going tent camping next week, i have a 10 person tent, which one of these will do the job? Never had one, just want to buy the right size. Its gonna get 51 degrees during the nite

Might want to get the sizes correct. The small sunflower heater is the Little Buddy heater, the One bottle 2 panel heater is just the Regular Buddy heater. The Big buddy is a 2-bottle 3-panel heater.
Thanks Dave to be honest this was like my first video which turned out bad to say the least and took off on youtube i know my luck lol but please take a look at the channel other videos of the buddy heaters which turned out pretty good

Just make sure you have damn good ventilation,as in all windows open, or eventuall you will feel the affects of the Co. personally no i would not but i am a heavy sleeper but i will say it would do the job for you thanks for watching and hope you subscribe to the channel this video was like my first video and not very good
Buddy heaters have a low oxygen sensor that will turn the unit off.

I do commercial HVAC and work on roofs on warehouses, factories, ect... Do you think the Big one would work sitting outside pointed at me? Would you suggest the smaller one in that case for portability?
Also you mentioned about a fan?

Don’t you think you would be able to answer that question better seeing how you work in Hvac ?
@@GF-pc5bt Just because he works in HVAC does not mean he knows his camping equipment such as a BigBuddy. Nor would he typically air condition or heat the OUTDOORS with home HVAC equipment.
JavaMan actually he should I am in that industry and it’s a basic principle we learn in trade school .....pipe down !
Cold propane flow through these units is terrible when it's cold.
thanks for your input
Thank you .. I just found a factory reconditioned from cabelas for $49.99 + 8.00 for fast shipping ... How long does the little propane tank last ??? How many hours ???

Yes, I have four or them and they are problematic. I just got one of my little buddy heaters out of the case and it is doing the same as the other one. I can push the button and get a nice pilot light but I can't get it to work after I release the button unless the heater is warm to start with and them I try many times. My big buddy won't be used because it leaks inside somewhere and is dangerous. I don't want that thing leaking in there until the gas builds up and and gets lit where it shouldn't again. The best one is the first one that I bought and is the 4-9k BTU model that still has the push button ignition. I have used them many times successfully but I don't like being cold because my heater is being a pain in the butt.
hopefully i dont have any problems with mine but they are handy to have thats for sure
Depending on the date of manufacture, there was a recall for the leaking issue. I believe you can go to their website and check the serial numbers of the recalled units (only the big buddy’s I believe). Mine was replaced due to the recall.
