Was an insane moment for metal, they got a little backlash from media. It's done nothing though as their numbers are still going up! Much love Johnny! See ya soon!
That would be awesome, the difference is tho compared to France there are so many giant bands that have come out of the US and even just Cali, bigger more radio friendly bands. I feel like they’d ask a bunch of bands way before they ever entertained asking someone like A7X, bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers. Highly doubt the US will do something as cool as France having Gojira’s play
Hi from an AVENGED SEVENFOLD's french fan 🤘 I am being a huge GOJIRA fan since I saw them live in september 1999 in Paris supporting IMMORTAL. Their name was GODZILLA, they changed it into GOJIRA the year after. When IMMORTAL was playing, all GOJIRA members were at the edge of the stage, on the backstage side, and suddenly HORGH, the IMMORTAL drummer, was about to fall because he raised his stool's seat too much, and the seat was falling, HORGH was trying his best to not fall when drumming, and Mario, the GOJIRA's drummer, has run to the stage to help him, and he put the seat back. I bought all GOJIRA's albums and I even have a tattoo of the 2005 album cover "From Mars To Sirius". It is such a huge honor and pride to be fan of GOJIRA for such a long time and see them performing at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. For the explanation why they performed here, it is thanks to Daphne BURKI who is a famous TV host in France, she worked hard on the Opening and Closing Ceremonies because she is the costume director and she is a huge GOJIRA fan so she did what it needed to make it happen 🤘 All the best from France, Gilles
Basketball was already global before 92. Americans just realized that it was a global game in 92, because before Barcelona professional players of the NBA weren’t allowed to play in the Olympics so the US public didn’t care. I’ll go as far to say that before, Basketball at the Olympics was as much followed in the US as is the WNBA now… which by the way have probably become a thing in the US because the Olympics made Americans realize that women can play the game too. The Dream Team in the Olympics changed the game not by making it more popular all over the world (because it already was), but by giving for the first time the opportunity of confronting the NBA players to the top level players worldwide. The level difference was obvious and expected but before those games it was only theory. From this point forward, European players in particular started to train differently, progress and aim to become real challengers for the US NBA players. That’s what changed. And little by little, those European teams progressed and started to shake the superiority of the US basketball team, which resulted on better European players on one side but also less « cocky » US players that realized that they now don’t have the luxury anymore to underestimate their opponents.
Avenged Sevenfold playing the show in Orange County but only for the super fans… What a bummer… How about Orange County locals only? I’m born and raised in Laguna Beach and I’m a big fan.
I must admit that your comment on basket ball was funny. Today, the NBA is more international. There's still a lot of american players but international players are stronger and want more than anything to play for their country. In order to illustrate this, except for 2023 (with Embiid who became american ony to get the gold medal) and the last MVP were european (Jokic, Antetokounmpo). Many franchise players like Donkic, Gilgeous Alexander or Shroder are non american. The most popular rookie who many think is going to be a future MVP (Victor Wembanyama) is French. He was N° 1 pcik last year. This year the 2 first picks of the draft were French. Even with all the NBA Stars, the US team was closed to be eliminated by Jokic's Serbia. Among the US stars in the Olympics, many start to be old: Lebron, Stephen, Kevin ... If in 1992, the dream team had no concurrence, now and in the next events like Olympics, or World Cup, every victory is going to be a hard fight and US supremacy is going to be more and more fragile. Gojira was cool. ua-cam.com/video/O7Q2qY8sKEE/v-deo.html
