Punk and Dub have never been mutually exclusive. The first time I saw Killing Joke back in 1980 their support act was a really heavy dub sound system and the two worked a treat.

This music is amazing. All the other sounds in the world - the birds at my window, my wife's banter, the chat of people walking by - sound like they're part of the song. There is a natural rhythm and cadence to life on Earth, and it is here as well

Have only recently found out I have ADHD, it now makes so much sense that dub music was so comforting, so soothing for my soul.
It came close to meditation, I couldn't sit and meditate, too self aware but I could get lost in dub.
It was something I liked but I now realise I needed. I guess it was not just entertainment it was food for the soul, therapy.
I thank all the Dub Clubs I was lucky enough to have access to in London 30 odd years ago. Where no one asked questions of the little foreign white girl quietly leaning up on the speaker, having her insides massaged by the bass.
I am thankful for the unspoken (you don't bother us, we won't bother you) I would come out and drive myself home with a sense of internal calm, uplifted, recharged.

Just discovered dub and after growing up listening to rap music I feel like I found a new home. So many samples that I never knew were samples. Just goes to show you how much of an influence Jamaica has on New York. I know Soul, Funk, R&B and Disco is often discussed in the makings of hip hop but why is Dub not talked about as well? So much of the 90's classics feature these sounds. I wonder if it was done on purpose so the people of NY can know who's in the know.

Hi Bruv i got into dub recently n all love it. been a hiphop fan all my life, but its funny you should say that you hear a lot of dub in hiphop cause i never have. i got into dub via jungle, garage, and dubstep. was wondering if you could point me in the direction of hiphop tunes that use dub samples. i love going back and hearing things i didnt hear the first time

Greetings. I grew up with this music from the 70's. The first record i bought was dennis brown wolfs & lepards while i was at school. Everyone else was into punk rock. I love studio 1 roots and tubby's dubs. i used to go to phebes, norik, whereever shaka played. good memories. I ended up being one of the best house Dj's in the country. The Lord is and was my guidence. I took me years to find out. I now know the Truth.

Though not strictly dub I guess my first exposure was either an extended version of Bob Marleys Exodus where the instrumental sections were a lot more drawn out and you could just ear everything slowly layering on top of one another. It was epic!

Kunte Kinte is one of the first dub tunes I e'er heard and it's still one of the heaviest and most emotional for me. Timeless song I'll be rockin' to it in the nursing home in 50 years.
