If you’re doing form work the mini prisms with additional sleeves for your poles is an absolute must. Never looked back

Yes I'll make a video on that as I've just bought a better prism with bubble on top. Much easier to see bubble whereas the one I'm using here -- bubble is below prism.

    While doing the detail survey,
Do you prefer resection for station setup?

Hi. Yes I'd prefer to do a resection to start with so I can get my survey onto a known azimuth. Therefore I draw up the subdivision plan, find some marks and do a resection. Then I traverse normally to other stations and do the survey. HOWEVER - if I'm short for time or having difficulties then I might just start on a assumed azimuth and do the work and perhaps have to return to look for marks.

"Thank you for the information. I am a civil engineer who works as a land surveyor in Sydney. Although I have been working as a land surveyor for more than 2 years, I am confused. Could I join you on field weekends so that I can learn how experts conduct surveys in the field?"

When doing the alignment I always bang in a decky somewhere I can set up on and see down the lot (ie through a gap in the side or double sided garage) so I can get out the back for the feature. Then known backsite when I'm doing it. I think this is the norm.
If they cheap out and don't want the alignment I just set zero to the side boundary. It takes two seconds to rotate and adjust to get the perfect 'zero' look on the final plan or if wanted in say PCG it's just another shift and rotate.
Edit to add: we all need to be registering field books more often for older areas. It gets tiring turning up to an area with 3 different spray marks over points with no record tying them into anything.

yep. having a combo of 360 and mini prism can be a job saver. i like having a piece a paper as well. PDFs are good some things and paper is good all round.

Yes - call me old school but a piece of paper with some info doesn;t loose battery power. Good to have both - I agree.

360's should really only be used for features.
