I loved the vlog. However, you could've attributed to the similarities between Ghana and Jaimaca - food, environment, and culture - to cultural heritage. Per history, most Jamaicans hailed from the great Ashanti tribe in Ghana!
I have heard so much about you from Wode Maya over the years, Tony that it was a natural choice to subscribe to your channel. May you continue to grow bountifully
Nice yea black carribeans are from West Africa. Fufu eating was retained in Haiti where they call it “tom tom” but made from mashed breadfruit not pounded plantain and cassava
Thnak you for sharing your and your husband's Jamaican-Zimbabwean union (saw your other videos) and current experience living in Zimbabwe. Really beautiful videos, including this one. I am Jamaican and appreciate these videos. Truly authentic!! Hopefully, they will encourage our fellow Jamaicans and other Caribbeans to explore our African ancestral connection, and visit the continent. Another point: the volume on your videos is low. My volume is 85 and I have to make it even higher to hear. Great that you have a Wode Maya connection!
Same thing in Jeremie, Haiti, which is situated less than 30 minutes from Port Antonio, Jamaica. It seems like the same tribes from Ghana were taken to those areas.
Many Jamaicans are connected to Ghana patwa is heavily influenced by twi akan language from Ghana and many more we love Jamaicans so much and they have many similarities to Nigerians too
I can tell your an uptown girl ..middle upper middle class family ..beautiful accent ..you look very Ghanaian …beautiful girl ..not surprised the young man married u
Thank you! 😅😅 We had actually all planned for her to be there, and she was looking forward to that…we were disappointed too. But don’t worry, we’ll definitely have a couples link up in future! 😉😉
When it comes to cooking and spices Zimbabwe can not compete with west Africa cooking and Jamaicans cooking. My partner is from Zimbabwe and I had to introduce him to many spices and different dishes from Congo and Cameroon. Zimbabwean food has no flavours and I always struggle to eat at his mums house 😩 Did you say there is no plantain in Zimbabwe??? Whatttt??? I am moving to Zimbabwe soon and I will not survive without my plantain 😭😅
Girl trust me I am starting my own farm. For real. What no plantain? I am already looking for land for farming anyway so plantain will definitely be on my list of food to grow.😊
From the moment I hear you are in Ghana 🇬🇭 I knew that you are going to see a lot of similarities I'm glad where as my son doesn't look convinced because in the southern African region we eat different from Ghana by the way I'm from South Africa
Yes I definitely noticed the food in Southern Africa is much different from Western Africa… Jamaicans share more similarities with the Western African foods and cooking style. But it’s certainly all fun and adventure exploring the variation within Africa! We should travel our continent and experience each other!
Auntie Maggie's fufu. That was nice. Do jamaicans cook their soups with assorted fish and meat like they do in ghana? Like different types of fish, meat, crabs etc all inone soup?
Jamaicans have soups that they put assorted prices of chicken (eg. back, neck, feet) or goat (head, tripe) but as general practice, don’t usually mix the different kinds of meat in one soup; it’s either one or the other.
Funny thing Joe, You will find the all-in-one stew in Louisiana and some other Southern cities/states in the US. called Gumbo. As a Jamaican now living in the US, it was a surprise to me but I now love it. They generally add rice directly to the stew. I eat it without adding the rice. Sometimes add a bit more water and have it as a soup.
🇸🇷🌎🌍 got the same things plantain spice meat. Rice and beans.pepe soep.almouse every thing the same . except foufou. There is something semelere the runaway slaves eat. A lot off things are the same. Thank you very much for this video. Blessed.
@@TheMegabushFamily you don’t need a plant. You just need a plantain and ackee from Ghana. My wife is from Trinidad and they have something called Chadon beni, I was able to grow it from some I got in the supermarket. It easy to planting, the ackee will take like 5 years
I am Zimbabwean and I find our food delicious without any spices. Zimbabwean beef, chicken, pork and goat meat has a nice natural taste. Our weather and climate doesn’t go well with very hot spices. In Zimbabwe we eat meat and other countries eat spices 😅.
Guys you make it seem like zim has no spices, we just have quality meat, but if you are into a variety of spices go to any supermarket there is always a tonne load of spices there, or spice shops or kumusika vana mbare you will get loads of spices from there as well or better yet grow your own coriander, garlic, turmeric, thyme, garlic and many more in your own backyard, more people are doing this all over but to be frank you won’t exhaust all the spices in the supermarkets in Zim
There is exactly 3 people who have similar culture because these 3 peoples are the same people, Ghana, the Akans of the Ivory Coast, and the Jamaicans these 3 peoples are Ashantis
You’re 100% correct. Majority of the Maroons are Ashanti (some have Nigerian ancestry too) Nanny of the Maroons was Ashanti, Marcus Garvey descended from the Ashanti, a lot of Jamaicans have that ancestry. The Nigerian ancestry is also quite prevalent, especially on the north western side of Jamaica. Lots of West African heritage!
Zim beef the best you have large species of cattle than west Africa. You forget that Jamaican ancestors came from koromanstin, the north central and mid Ghana. That’s why you have Fante kenkey firing stance in Jamaica. Dokun in Fante dukunu blue draws in Jamaica.
as an african american woman married to a jamaican i would say that southern cuisine is similar to jamaican food which is similar to Ghanaian food.....see the connection? 😉
The colonial division obtained its objective, now the African continent can't relate to each other, making it had to unite, before borders people roamed around freely and probably work have more similarities, the Eastern part of Africa, the colonialist took resident there because the weather was more suitable to them, they were the ones who owned the recourse, regarding what to plant.
They did. But it’s time for us to rise above it. We are more equip now more than ever as a people! Gaddafi’s vision for a United Africa probably a good solution for their colonial divide and rule.
Jamaicans are Africans tgat came mostly from West African countries. I love it when Debs speaks that Jamaican Patois. She is very beautiful and a good story teller.
