Maybe that's just me but I'm watching with anticipation for the moment AI manages to consistently pull off non skincrawling character interactions when it needs to!

The fact it looks like that instead of creepy computer scans pretending to be people is really interesting and exciting to me. A step towards climbing out of the uncanny, creepy looking generative results that a lot of systems suffer from at the moment.
I love the stainless walls and chrome handrails in the scene where the security guard is letting Gordon into Anomalous Materials. The same goes for the scene with the scientists talking to Gordon at the door of the Test Chamber, I like the stainless steel look. It actually kind of reminds me of how Cyberdyne Systems looked in Terminator 2 except there's modern lcd screens instead of tube monitors. Too bad the AI wasn't good enough to just do an upscaled version of the textures already in place instead of outright replacing it. As much as I like clean futuristic looks sometimes clean is TOO clean. Especially when it's just a flat panel design. :)
As cool as this may seem, playing Half-Life like this would be a TRAUMATIZING experience. Remember how brutal the games (especially the first ones) are?

It might seem impressive, but this sort of generative AI tends to struggle to consistency. If you turn away from a character, will he look the same when you turn back? The AI also clearly struggled with a character's sleeve and apparently thought it was an arm cast.

On top of which, as OP said, this was ONLY supplying the final render, not the scene IDs, not with a pre-trained model with the character's faces and designs. Again, as OP says, there's so much room for innovation here, seems a bit pessimistic to say this isn't impressive work, I would even suggest, this is just an impressive start.
Imagine downloading an AI engine and having it manipulate every game you play in real time, with imperceptible latency. It's quite possible that this could happen in the next 10 years. All they need to do is develop very fast and efficient AI engines and produce an AI graphics card that can handle these operations.

Furthermore, it won’t be long until games are simply designed with NPC characters with no scripts, just motivations. Then the world just plays out. Talk about each person having a completely different gameplay experience. It will be wild!
In 5-10 years, this type of technology will truly revolutionize gaming. The best part, is that it will really allow resources and developer time to be spent on the actual gameplay rather than making it look pretty.

This is the future for games. And it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
It won’t be long until every classic game can be remastered like this.
Furthermore, it won’t be long until games are simply designed with NPC characters with no scripts, just motivations. Then the world just plays out. Talk about each person having a completely different gameplay experience. It will be wild!

you play a game cause is nothing like reality in the sense of things you can do, not because it looks, because nobody's actually thinking about looks all the time, its called suspension of disbelief
