- Reform UK launched its 'contract with the people' manifesto yesterday, which included radical policies like slashing net zero, migration and tax.
Talk's Chief Political Commentator Peter Cardwell joins Mike Graham to discuss the ongoing general election campaign.
Cardwell says some people are getting "very frustrated" at the UK's 'First Past The Post' voting system.
"There may well be millions of people who vote for Reform UK, but they could only have perhaps a few MPs."
Boris Johnson is also reported to be making a similar warning in letters due to be sent to tens of thousands of voters by the Conservative Party.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the former prime minister has signed letters that argue voting for Reform UK would put Labour in power for “a generation”.

The two party system needs to go
There are loads of parties. What we have is a marvellous first past the post system that leads to parties having large majorities in parliament despite getting nowhere near 50% of the vote. Labour in 2005 and the Conservatives in 2015 held the majority of seats in parliament despite getting less than 37% of of the overall vote.
If people wanted the third or fourth biggest parties to have any real voice, they would push to have a system that allows it. The voting population don't seem to want that. They like having a two party system for some reason.

While I was waiting in Victoria bus station for my overnight bus back to Glasgow an old Geordie man sat next to me.. Guess what.. Exact same thing. He travelled alone on an overnight bus from Co Durham. He marched sang and protested with the rest of us. And he told me he's never voted because they are ALL a crooked bunch of so n so's. But this year he thinks it "might" actuality make a difference.

I think everybody understands this. The important thing is to end the toxic political duopoly enjoyed by Labour and the Conservatives, and to create a bridgehead into the UK parliament. Replace First Past the Post with some form of Proportional Representation and you'll get your share of seats. May as well abolish those donkeys in the House of Lords too while you're at it.
There are lies, dam lies, statistics and poles.
Reform will do much better than poles forecast particularly if voter apathy for the two main parties is prevalent. Many voters will sit at home saying why vote for Labour they will win, or why vote Tory they will lose.
But with respect to Reform, people who support the Reform of British politics will feel its worth a vote. Reform only need around 35% of the vote in each constituency to tip the balance.

There was massive optimism about the UKIP party who got millions of votes and no MPs. Lib Dems had a bit of a run in local elections and have 15(?)MPs after slogging away for over 30 years. The 2 main parties have achieved Jack Sh** for years but managed to keep others off the see-saw. This election, with those 2 parties derided by so many is going to be interesting.
Not if we get out and vote REFORM. the rubbish is in the three main parties. Especially Labour.
So put REFORM to the test, everyone vote for them and lets see what they can actually get done from their contract, it might just surprise you. Otherwise don't just keep saying they cant do it because they wont be in power, NO ONE ELSE will or desires to sort this mess out.

I am a Welshman, We are finely on the brink of creating history, we don't have to vote Labour of Torie, because neither of them cares about the people. The British voting system disenfranchises millions of voters, and frustrates the true will of the people. This is why both Labour and Conservative parties will never change it. Any half competent mathematician can easily demonstrate that under the current system it's quite possible for the party with the least votes to end up in No.10!
Assuming 30 million people vote and the predictions/polls are correct Reform will get 6 million votes and 6 seats Labour will get 12 million votes and 450 seats. Reform 1 seat per million votes - Labour 1 seat per 27,000 votes. A vote for labour is worth 37 times more than a vote for Reform - WE HAVE A PROBLEM.
