Take a character from "aww" to "aww crap" is a sophisticated art. Cast passwall going straight down making a pit trap behind us. And the warlock cast Darkness on top of it, quite a few kobolds decided to rush into the Darkness after us. Afterwards I flew over the hole and Burning Hands. I have never wished I had taken an acid spell more before in my gaming career.
We’ve had a player talk about making a fairy swarm keeper ranger. I would make an arcane trickster rogue fairy. Some DMs wouldn’t allow it because of the fly speed but you can easily counter that with bandits with ranged weapons at low levels.
@@TheSinisterheroes DM's mostly have a problem with them because the fly speed allows you to stay out of melee range and DM's feel that the level 1 fly speed makes most melee monsters irrelevant since they can just ignore the melee damage but that's just my interpretation I've never been a DM before so I have no experience with it so it's just a guess
Here’s the reasoning I can’t understand. As the DM you know what species and classes your players will play, or your there when they make them. Since you have that information you can easily figure out that a player has a flying species like the arokokra. So all you have to do is just give the mobs or enemies 1 ranged option.
For reading you may wish to visit Laurell K. Hamilton's first book in her Merri Gentry series A Caress of Twilight. Merri is fae princess who has been avoiding the fae & then thrust back into the court politics. My favorite are the demi-fae big butterfly wings, black eyes & piranha like teeth. (Ms. Hamilton has stated in interviews that her original intent was to be a romance writer, so expect that.) You may also want to read one of the books from Ms. Hamilton's series Anita Blake Vampire Hunter called "Bloody Bones".
@@TheSinisterheroes Bloody Bones is short for a Raw Head & Bloody Bones which is a powerful fae of the Unseelie who is a boggle who used to eat misbehaving children, until he was captured & used as a power source by other fae at least in this story, though you will have to read it. (By the way, these are fast read books & I would recommend not cutting yourself off from gaining more story basis for games.)
I'd pick up the Dual Wielder, after going Rune Fighter and when you do, you gain the ability to grow Large, and eventually Huge. You can then Attack as normal with Greatswords. Large Fairys like in Legend of Zelda are a thing. You don't need flying but finding Cast-off Plate would be great. Lucky Fairy can attack and use the Disadvantage to go Super Advantage.
If you stop thinking about them as tiny little tinkerbell like sprites it can change things up a bit, which I desperately needed cus I would hate them otherwise.
@@TheSinisterheroes Curious to why you're not a fan of Small race. Just curious. I wasn't either initially but over time, it was fun. Especially Gnomes.
They annoy me. They just are so uninteresting to me. Dwarves and kobolds excluded of corse. I can not get into a mindset where I could feel a connection to the character because I do not enjoy them or there lore. In fantasy I feel like there just a burden to be around. I hate feet and hobbits never wear shoes
Certainly! Short version: he's in romantic relationship with human royalty (for whom he's also a bodyguard) and it would be scandalous if he was found out to be fey. He hides his wings and wears a (DM-approved) magic locket with a permanent enlarge spell so he appears medium size and passes as a half-elf. Alignment is neutral good and he's hunting down a guy who made an assassination attempt against the royal family. I think I just love the roleplay aspect of keeping his identity under wraps and why he left the feywild to begin with. Coming off of a trickery cleric, he doesn't have as big of a bag of tricks, but it's a good balance between magical shenanigans and raw attack power for me.@@TheSinisterheroes
I love that your medium sized🤣😂🤣 I like that you used a creative method to make your self medium size. Thats a really smart way to make that work in your favor. The being the love interest is something I have never seen in a game and that’s says a lot! That’s a very unique of a secret to have cus you have to be very careful in those role play situations, the nobility can be vicious.
I agree it does add a level of difficulty to the game. I had a few characters that had serious secrets and it got released and I died for it. Totally worth it 😂🤣😂
I have a 12th level Fairy Bard. She’s all about battlefield control and support. Looking forward to watching this video to see if I’m missing anything. :)
I used to hate the fey because I also thought of them as like Tinker Bell. But I picked up a 3rd party book called monsters of feyland and it really has opened my eyes to how diverse and intriguing they can be. It got me thinking of how you can be both evil and whimsical, bad with a sense of humor. There tons of grotesque fairy type like hags or redcaps. Such creepers are REALLY edgy and you can really flesh out a fairy character by looking at the different courts they come from. A shadow fairy could be an illusionist thief where as winter fairy could be cruel and cold. So much more fun to be had than just our typical pixie dust fairy
Yes!!! The real fey are horrible creatures. They really treat all other entities as toys to be broken and abused. There no sense of compassion for anything that they aren’t subservient to. Enchantment magic at is core is designed to manipulate and to take advantage of others, the fey are masters of it!
@@TheSinisterheroeswell I wouldn’t really say Fey in dnd settings are cruel or devoid of compassion. From what I’ve gathered from a writing standpoint, regardless of what alignment you give them. Fey live by different morals and rules and codes than the material plane species. Some fairies may be super nice and friendly and helpful and act relatively normal and then suck a baby into a black hole and not think it was an evil or cruel act. Or turn someone to stone because they insulted them, without it being a cruel act. They’re very…nuanced, and can circumvent a lot of alignment based restrictions as far as the story goes. It’s why they can fit in with a variety of adventurers.
I made a male wild magic barbarian fairy. Many of the effects are very fitting and I justified his strength to be an ant-man like thing where it's a compacted and focused strength. DM allowed him to use a greataxe without disadvantage, otherwise you could use a lance for the bigger damage die.
The thing about the fey is that they are typically not exclusive "cutsey" and there are deep lairs to them and when it comes to the fey the fey to me are misleading and manipulative and most people are distrustful towards them because of the nature of the fey and i see the fairy race as embodying the nature of the fey you could hypothetically play as a fucked up tooth fairy if you want but I'll leave that to your imagination but I do like the concept this next part is a question for sinister hero i would like to respectfully request that you review the subclasses in the grim hollow books i seen the path of the fractured barbarian subclass and it's right up your alley it's a very jekal and Hyde class in my opinion and the subclasses that I have seen are really cool in my opinion but you don't have to if you don't want to but you recommend you check out those subclasses they seem really cool
I share your opinion about the fey, they are here to have fun at your expense, whether you live or not is inconsequential. I am staying away from 3rd party stuff at the moment, and my reasoning is because it’s not official and if I hold out long enough they could give me a free copy to do it 🤣😂🤣

A fairy with an army of fairies of their own sounds fantastic
Then summoning far I think gives you fairies as well.
I never see people pick races with flying, but I can’t fathom a real issue.
