This should be top comment. This is exactly what luxury is about. If I see a brand that produces small collections twice a year, that screams luxury a million times more than selling hundreds of different styles of clothing and accessories every year.
Dior is known for quality. The company's debuted as a couture house, the same cannot be said for Chanel. Dior has continued to show a profit for each quarter post pandemic. Dior's R-T-W and accessories are very popular in Asia and the Middle East so, I am inclined to see the price increase reflect the brands popularity in their strong markets.
In Singapore, the price for a medium size Lady Dior was SGD$8500 and currently sold at SGD$10000. I’m glad I got the bag in Blush, a few days before the price increased.
I'm going with the I'm not purchasing anything option. Doesn't matter whether or not there's a price increase, I can't afford luxury anytime soon. I'm only here because I enjoy your videos.
I bought a Lady Dior Clutch about a year ago for € 1,600 which was already pretty much for a wallet on a chain (imho) - that now retails for 1,900.... I knew I was done with Dior bags at that point. Everything else is just too expensive for me to justify.
I feel like all these price hikes across all the designer brands are just gonna push more and more people to get fakes. Something I’ve noticed is that having fakes is becoming generally acceptable among the younger middle class and as these houses are pricing the middle class out they’re just going to buy fakes instead
It's also especially embarrassing how superfakes are being made with actual leather/quality materials. I feel like the big designer brands saw how every upcoming influencer would buy some designer, and they cannot stand being "mainstream", so they price out everyday people who save up for a purchase that would easily last decades for them. This has definitely also increased the acceptance of fakes.
Super fakes will never be considered “acceptable” *by anyone with class*, so buying them and convincing oneself they are cringe and trashy is huge cope. Most wealthy people are getting turned off by popular designer brands exactly because they are now associated with fakes, and have gone to ever niche luxury brands that don’t get copycatted. If someone is buying super fakes it’s because they are desperate to achieve a look they cannot afford and that’s never going to be classy.
Designer houses used to come up with new designs that revolutionized how people dress and now they just RE-issue old popular designs and have insane price increases which for me, is killing their relevance to society and fashion of the people
He’s good but he’s pretty ignorant about the cost to produce for most items. He’s also recommended brands like Polene which have had massive quality issues so I appreciate what he says but also take a lot of it with a grain of salt.
Prices will continue to increase as long as there is a demand and people are willing to pay their price tags. Therefore the choice is up to the customers, to ask themselves, do they truly need those items ? I’m sure if people would stop buying as a form of protest , the price increases would stop. Sophie, why do you purchase these luxury items ? Thank you for sharing
As unpopular as this response may, be there are still many wealthy people in the world that 5-10 thousand is nothing to spend,I know many women who never look at a price tag, they own large important business's and some are even independently wealthy and ever worked in thier life. So there is many ways to look at this, yes common sense is none of these bags cost anywhere near 1/4 of the price to make, thats with all retail.
The Lady Dior has such dreamy pastel shades, but there's a lot of dealbreakers to me. The fact that the straps aren't stitched down but held in place with rivets and the noisy bag charms don't do it for me. It's a cute shape though, I had a very similar style bag from Paasha Bags in navy vegetable leather with lavender embroidery.
@@xiwenchen189 You mean, the handles of the bag? They can be noisy, i know. I have only 1 Dior bag and because I want to keep it in very good shape it is not an everyday bag.
You are absolutely right, I was in Dior last week in St Tropez and I thought that they are getting as expensive as Chanel. I was going to buy another lady Dior but I couldn’t justify the price of them now. I consoled myself with a saddle bag. I now only buy classic bags as prices are going crazy.
They’ve made improvements to the leather strap on the medium lady Dior. My husband bought mine for Christmas 2022, and the strap is wider than the older one, and it’s adjustable. I love it. He paid $6100 and it’s now at $6500.
Based on your information I ordered a Dior D lite bag before the price hike. Dior accepted my order, told me it was on its way. Then they cancelled my order and refunded my money without telling me. Was this to make me buy at a higher price. I will not be buying at the higher price 😮

@@shahrzaddanioh wow interesting hearing things like this, you would think that if their goal is to keep up exclusivity and sell at the same volume to their desired customers, that they would cater more to their elite members… this makes me think that likely the staff may be not treated or trained well and company may be looking at increasing profits rather than prestige.
I honestly love luxury handbags from famous designers but I am trying to buy less and less from very well known brands because I am realizing that what I pay is not just quality but mainly I am paying for their massive marketing campaigns...furthermore the quality is going down recently despite prices going up...and it is not luxury anymore if a bag is not handmade but mass-produced and everyone now days can own one. Recently I am buying a lot from websites that can put you in contact whit artisans in Italy (most of them produce for big names as well....) and have the same quality, if not even better quality, at a fraction of the price and exclusive designs. It's not common to see other people carrying the same bag when an artisan produces is it just for you, this is real luxury to me!
Dior seems to be emulating Chanel. Chanel wants to be Hermes, Dior wants to be Chanel. The problem is, when Chanel increases their price their clients can't just move over to Hermes because Hermes bags aren't readily accessible, plus Chanel and Hermes are completely different from a stylistic and aesthetic standpoint, so there is room in a wardrobe for both, but when Dior does a massive price increase like this, some clients will just move to Chanel because Chanel bags are readily available (i.e. you can just walk in and buy one), and I feel like Dior and Chanel bags fill the same niche in a wardrobe, so there is no need for both. I've danced with the idea of a medium lady dior and a d-lite for some time, but at this price point I'm definitely going to just stay with Chanel.
I think these companies will continue to do this as long as there are people who will still buy. The profit margin is so enormous, that for every bag they sell, it won't matter if they lose a customer or even two! I really think they are trying to price certain clientele out and make their brands exclusive for the uber rich.
They’re owned by LVMH. It’s a privately held company so we’ll never know the true figures, BUT I suspect that they’ve seen a massive slow down in the last two years. They’re also trying to inch their way to Hermès status. Right now there’s nothing like that in their portfolio and Chanel won’t sell.
I am buying preloved and have been for years. I also haven’t purchased new items from any of the “more popular” houses due to their higher prices. I have chosen to give other “not so popular “ brands my attention. However, they’re prices are going up too because there’s a gap.
It definitely costs way more than 150 to make 😂 most people are ignorant about the price of the materials. Having said that, they are still way overpriced relative to the quality but thinking it only costs 150 for materials and labour is hilarious.
@@annaz6911 I know its hard for people who buys these things to accept that leather and hardware isn’t very expensive and that you are paying 5000 pounds for a name. Tanner Leatherstein has shown this time and time again. People have been tricked into believing that leather and hardware is extremely expensive. That it explains the cost of the bag. And maybe it’s not 150, it could be 200 pounds to make it. But that’s just peanuts.

Hi, Sophie! Great video as always. I think it's really disappointing that these brands keep increasing their prices as a means to become more exclusive, but do not improve their quality. I much prefer Dior to Chanel because of how friendly the SAs are and the quality in general (Chanel leather has so much finish on top of it it might as well be plastic - I'm talking about caviar - and they have major quality issues) but neither is worth the money right now. Neither is Hermès, by the way. This fabricated exclusivity is getting really tired.
Went to Dior last week & the SA did mention abt the price increase.. Then i checked Dior website & totally shocked to see the price of lady dior. Keeping mine the medium size safely & I still want a Saddle then I'm done! But the mini size LD is perfect for the evening/night out hahaha first world problem.
I had an experience with AWFUL customer service and quality issues with my last Dior bag purchase. Thus, I will never ever purchase another item, other than makeup, from the brand.
Hi Sophie, looking gorgeous as always! I’m loving that blazer 😊🌸 I was wondering if you would do a video on the rise of fakes, especially with the increasing popularity of sites like DHGate and the promotion of purchasing fakes on places like here and TikTok. I haven’t seen many other creators in this space discuss it and I would love to get your two cents!
Super fakes look even better than the original luxury bags. Sophie's shown several Chanel slgs that are of such poor quality, it's an insult to their customers. I'd also like to see a video about fakes and how they've made luxury fashion perhaps less special? Particularly in my city, there's so many LV neverfulls and Chanel classic flaps, that I just assume they're all fake. What luxury bags do you see a lot in your area?
I LOVE Dior, I actually ordered a new bag yesterday. I work hard, do not have kids, paid of my mortgage and have enough savings and investements so why not? Their items are beautiful and love looking at them and styling them. I do not buy Chanel anymore: their quality went down and think their style is boring.
Unfortunately if people keep buying these luxury goods, Monsieur Arnault and the rest of them will keep hiking prices. The new mini LV Bumbag, for instance, has an 11 week wait list in Nice alone !!
I saw your very kind post on Instagram and went to store to buy but I was a day late! The SA said that they’re expecting another big one. The price is exorbitant, however, I’ll probably still buy it because it’s still not at Chanel prices (even the LV is more than the lady dior!) and I know it will be an investment
Dior needs to stop! That lady Dior bag does not last long enough without treating it very delicately and it's getting annoying to have to baby a handbag! The bag is a beautiful design but it's price has held me back from getting more colors. It's not an everyday bag which makes it harder to justify having multiple colors in. Honestly it's the Asian market and the crypto windfall that has all these brands smelling themselves. They need to come back down to reality and either make better quality bags or reduce the price. Enough already!!!
I’ve recently entered the designer bag craze (and at these prices, it sure is crazy!). Has anyone ever seen prices go down? I cannot believe how many handbags are out there and they are all being sold at such high prices.
I wonder if any of these big price rises ever do what they think. In the case of Chanel it either made meople pause or look at other brands. In the case of Dior it changed opinions about Chanel and may have also pushed people to other brands.
Designer or not, material costs have increased period, jmo but I think it's more to keep up (for lack of better words) with Chanel...seems more believable to me.
I agree that if you heart sings by Chanel stuff and Dior try be the new "Chanel", just go for Chanel. Quality is most likely to be found at Hermes but they are less beautiful in an intricate artistic way. The prices has definitely scared me away and i will stop buying luxury after 1 business bag and a lady Dior perhaps.
Sorry Sophie, hour late, clicked as soon as I got home. I had taken myself off to see the new Indiana Jones film, I often go to the cinema on my own. Anyway it was true to the Indiana Jones genre but still thoroughly enjoyable, easy watching. Price rises are just inevitable the way things are, still love the Lady Dior bags, but hey ho. Hugs xx
Hi Sophie very enjoyable video,I have been looking at the same pink bag in a larger size, love the colour,I do believe Dior wants to be more exclusive, absolutely. I have 4 small, 1 d,lite canvas,1 Bobby in oblique and oblique tote.I'm pretty much satisfied with what I have from Dior, have shoes and boots and accessories, so I was thinking of that newer bag,or a biege medium. ALWAYS glad to hear your updates, let us know if you buy the new bag,is it the Asia collection? Thank you ❤❤❤
⚠️ If you’ve been holding on to a “designer” leather goods that you don’t use, it might be wise to sell them while you can still get a decent price...The luxury market is being turned on it’s head by young designers using the very best leather /craftsmanship.
After I saw your Instagram stories I went to the store on the 4th July to get the small Lady Dior (which I had been thinking about). It went up 15% overnight! Thank you!
I’m middle class and just purchased a beautiful wallet from Dior (the Dahlia Caro wallet) before the price increase, and after working my butt off this year to own something from a luxury house. Upon hearing the price increase, was i shocked? Not really, because i knew that i was never the intended audience. But to those who can comfortably afford it on a whim, go for it! Also to anyone who says i should’ve put my money towards investments or something more fruitful: don’t worry. I’ve got it all covered 👌🏽
The price is relative. It’s definitely a lot for me. And I still want some bags but right now its not a wise decision to buy any. I’ve gotten over that initial irritation at luxury brands raising prices, because after all I am not their intended audience. But I am kind of glad I don’t have Dior bags on my list 😊.
My opinion and I could be v.wrong, Hermes, Chanel and in part LV are seen as the benchmark in the luxury Arena. More recently observed that Chanel is trying to mimic Hermes' sales strategies. Whilst Dior and Fendi being under LVMH umbrella will adopt similar pricing increases alongside LV to stay relevant as top tier luxury brands. Does this represent quality/value/status only one can decide for oneself. It's never a need, often a want and more often an influenced decision. I know I've been more tempted by the offerings @ Fendi and Celine because I like the brands Creative direction and media influence. 😊
Couture brands do not want their products to become mainstream. In 1992 a friend of mine hat a Chanel bag, and almost anybody with a job could afford it at that time. So what did Chanel?? .. they raised the price. …😁
Omg thank God I have bought my Lady Dior last year. The small one in color fard was 4600€ last year. I’ve just checked the new price - 5500€ 🤯 900€ more 🤯
I want to buy a d joy bag but the prices are making it not worth it. It’s equivalent to working 2.5 months at my job 🤡. Honestly have been looking at dupes and even fakes because I’m gradually accepting the fact that I may not be able to justify being a customer of theirs.
I do not want to start a fight but does it feel good knowing you'll be wearing a fake? for me it takes fun out of it and it's snobby in the worst way "I can't afford it but I'll flaunt".
@@aniapalus9530imo nothing wrong with dupes. Nobody else gives a damn 😂, many people can't even tell lol
I don’t know what they’re the trying to achieve now. During Covid and after the massive inflation in economy the luxury brands still had a significant profit, not by little by far. Raising their price seems rather pointless to me. If they’re trying to build a goal “HARF TO GET” this is still not the best way of approach. They may need to work smart like Hermes where the customers spend fair amount of products before letting them purchase a purse or something? I don’t know, its just confusing me now. Personally I have no interest to purchase a bag that’s worth $10k- I’d rather save more to buy a house or a car.
I used to want the leopard book tote, tried it on in LA when I was out there and it just didn’t feel like it was worth it? ESP since I wanted my name on it.
They raise prices because they can. If we stop buying them the houses would maybe need to reconsider their pricing. Are these bags worth it ? Of course they aren’t from a $$ point of view but no one buys luxury because it’s economic 😀
With this inflation, I think we all need to set priorities and to buy what we need first and to question the purchases of stuff that we do not need.
Hear hear!

That’s basically true for all luxury houses. They are profit over design integrity and catering to nouveau riche Chinese.
As long as people keep buying prices will keep rising
In Singapore, the price for a medium size Lady Dior was SGD$8500 and currently sold at SGD$10000. I’m glad I got the bag in Blush, a few days before the price increased.
I'm going with the I'm not purchasing anything option. Doesn't matter whether or not there's a price increase, I can't afford luxury anytime soon. I'm only here because I enjoy your videos.
A pre-loved Dior or Chanel is all I would buy if at all. Great points Sophie thanks for sharing ☺️.
It's already a huge problem so brands beware. I already think "uhm, many people would assume it's fake so should I buy it". that's my mental thing.
@@alstraire for real in 5 years you’ll be able to spot a super fake because it looks too good lol
I don’t think people feel bad that the bags are being fakes because they’re priced so rediculously
As Tanner Leatherstein states we’re paying for the brand and status not the cost of leather and production.
Designer houses used to come up with new designs that revolutionized how people dress and now they just RE-issue old popular designs and have insane price increases which for me, is killing their relevance to society and fashion of the people
Tanner leatherstein deconstructs leather bags and gives an estimate of the cost to produce it. Basically you are paying the brand name.
He is brilliant!xx
@@abbyvanhoose3997 Very true there are plenty of those financially able to purchase the luxury items.
I bought my Lady Dior 2 years ago, preloved. It was a new bag, never used. I paid € 2650 for the medium size, navy blue. Prices now become insane.
Hello Sophie. Hope your summer is going well. Oregon has been very warm. Tomatoes are getting ripe in my garden.
Literally just bought my lady Dior in Italy 2 weeks ago and am so glad I did😮
You are absolutely right, I was in Dior last week in St Tropez and I thought that they are getting as expensive as Chanel.
I enjoyed the information you gave so precise ..thank you ❤
Yes! I have this booked marked too! Honestly, it’s pink and Dior - I think it’s worth it! 💞
Based on your information I ordered a Dior D lite bag before the price hike. Dior accepted my order, told me it was on its way. Then they cancelled my order and refunded my money without telling me. Was this to make me buy at a higher price. I will not be buying at the higher price 😮
Similar fraud happened to me👎🏻
Did you call them out on this? I’ve heard Dior is good about honouring prices with customers like this so I am quite surprised!
@@annaz6911 yes, I tried to contact them 5 times by different methods. Even when they eventually replied, the offered me my money back to which i replied you’ve already returned my money. Complete lack of communication between departments!
@@annaz6911 They were, not anymore. As an Elite member they have been treated me so shitty lately so I paused my business with them a few months now. Even filed a complaint, but nobody cared about it👎🏻 It’s sad
They simply do not want middle class people as their buyers... 😂
I know right?! Back to perfumes, sunglasses and make up for the middle classes.
You need at least one of each
I think these companies will continue to do this as long as there are people who will still buy. The profit margin is so enormous, that for every bag they sell, it won't matter if they lose a customer or even two! I really think they are trying to price certain clientele out and make their brands exclusive for the uber rich.
The question is - why do they ALL all of a sudden doing it? 🧐🧐 why not 10 years ago, but now? I’m really wondering what was the real trigger
@@juliam.4569exclusivity
They’re owned by LVMH. It’s a privately held company so we’ll never know the true figures, BUT I suspect that they’ve seen a massive slow down in the last two years. They’re also trying to inch their way to Hermès status. Right now there’s nothing like that in their portfolio and Chanel won’t sell.
I am buying preloved and have been for years. I also haven’t purchased new items from any of the “more popular” houses due to their higher prices. I have chosen to give other “not so popular “ brands my attention. However, they’re prices are going up too because there’s a gap.
If prices go up twice a year etc. then will a bag end up being £20k in just a few years???
I’ve often thought this about the Chanel classic flap in particular!!xx❤️
A bag like that costs about 150 pounds to make, not a 1000 pounds. The luxury houses are making enormous money.
It definitely costs way more than 150 to make 😂 most people are ignorant about the price of the materials. Having said that, they are still way overpriced relative to the quality but thinking it only costs 150 for materials and labour is hilarious.
@@annaz6911you should look online this guy who disassembles all kinds of luxury bags, not all bags cost that much and they are around 150eur
@@annaz6911 it depends. Chanel might as well be at this point with the poor quality 😂😉
@@susannem3526 sorry but you’re clueless and putting too much stock into what Tanner says. He’s one guy and not exactly the most knowledgeable about raw materials for luxury goods.
Happy Sunday morning Sophie ❣️Wishing you & David & bunnies 🐰 have a lovely day 💕❤️

I love Dior! 30 Montaigne is my favourite bag
Hi Sophie! So happy to watch your new videos. Would you do a review or share your thoughts on the 2023 Dior C'est La Vie bag? Thank you!
I’ll keep looking at the preloved market. There’s a few stunners I have my eye on 😍
So bummed about these price increases. I was planning on getting a small lady dior ABCdior bag in September while in France. Not so sure anymore.
That white bag is so beautiful - and so easy to get stains on. 😅
You aren’t wrong, I’m scared to use it lol!😅 Hugs to you xx
Went to Dior last week & the SA did mention abt the price increase.. Then i checked Dior website & totally shocked to see the price of lady dior. Keeping mine the medium size safely & I still want a Saddle then I'm done! But the mini size LD is perfect for the evening/night out hahaha first world problem.
Right my husband got me a small for my birthday and I had to buy the mini before the price increase because I will ALWAYS want that bag 😂
Sophie, can you make a bag restoration video? Perhaps edit your previous fixes in one video etc..
Keep 'em coming Sophie...and buy NOW before you run out of money! xxx
Definitely will be checking out pre- loved more than ever now
I LOVE Dior, I actually ordered a new bag yesterday.
My only Fendi item is a Frendi cheque book holder I purchased from a charity shop about 30 years ago for a couple of pounds.
Very, very interesting. Much food for thought. Thank you Sophie.
I’ve recently entered the designer bag craze (and at these prices, it sure is crazy!). Has anyone ever seen prices go down? I cannot believe how many handbags are out there and they are all being sold at such high prices.
They will not go down
I purchase my bags at the airport to get the duty free.
I purchased my Chanel flap and Dior Saddle, saving 300-500 USD.
The Chanel 22 mini is adorable and definitely get the Chanel mini backpack ❤❤❤
I just have one question- where does it end? 🎉Love your videos Sophie!🎉
The bar jacket is now $5000 😩 Just glad I bought mine long ago!
These brands have such beautiful products but the cost is so high. Priorities priorities priorities. At least looking is free
And what about RTW? I bought my bar jacket priced €2900 and nowadays? T-shrirts above €1000. Sad.
I’m the same as you! I have a bar jacket that was around £2900. I dread to think how expensive they are now, I bet they’re super expensive 😕xx
Thank you!
Enjoy your bag my friend! It’s a great feeling when you know you saved some money like that!! Hugs xx
Please,talk about Lady Godiva .
Enjoy your piece. Don’t worry about what other people say. It is your money. Congratulations.
Start your collection while your young.
I was thinking of buying Lady Dior small! But I reckon I will go for Gucci Diana small bag, which is £3,000 at the moment.
Great demand on Dior bags, so price goes up!! But love there bags 💁♀️
I'm going to stick with Coach at least you get decent quality for your money .
gonna buy chanel again now haha x
I bought my small lady dior on 10/6/23 they told me there will be price increased - i paid $7700 and now it’s 9000$ aud wow… $____$
What’s the round pink bag on her back? In the shelf
Omg thank God I have bought my Lady Dior last year. The small one in color fard was 4600€ last year. I’ve just checked the new price - 5500€ 🤯 900€ more 🤯
It was 3500 euros summer 2021!
@@aniapalus9530Agreed.
@@aniapalus9530imo nothing wrong with dupes. High street brands down to fast fashion brands all sell bags that are basically dupes of chanel/Dior/Balenciaga etc. 🤷♀️ I think the only person that cares too much about a bag being fake is the person carrying it. Nobody else gives a damn 😂, many people can't even tell lol
@@hugs_xoi can tell.
It's all so insane now!
I'd start looking at pre loved myself. These bags just aren't worth it now.
Do you think the book tote is still worth it?
I’m sooooooo so so pissed … I was going to buy the lady dior the next morning & boom price increase. Gosh I cried 😢 and now may b will buy 2nd hand
Maybe it's time to buy shares in stock market (LVMH/ Christian Dior SE) instead of bags ...
Oh no was the pink marker from the Porche event!?
I thought the same
I love Dior but I just wont pay those prices. Same goes for Chanel. But I understand why Dior did this.
Why do you think Dior did this?
They lost me long ago. It is the High Street for me, apart from books. Thank you for the video.
Before you know it, ysl is gonna be up there too.
Dior gives bags to influencers and I see no reason to spend this money if someone gets it for free.
Problem with this is Dior doesn’t hold its value in the same way that Chanel does.
I think it's the cost of marketing, and I have to agree with you. They increase the price to increase people perception of their value
Instead of paying marketing why don’t they pay fair to workers who make the product? Very mean industry.
Hi Sophie ! Happily I' m not at all
