- James Stoddard is back with another great educational video about the differences in steel thicknesses of gun and home safes and why it’s important when making a purchase. With careful research, you can buy a much stronger safe for about the same price as a thinner steel model!

Sturdy safes with 4 gauge plus steel
Something like a Fort Knox Spartan (3/8" plate door and 3/16" body) is a good starting point for a safe that is actually challenging for the meth-head/casual thief to get into. If all you need is to keep kids safe then you don't need much. For real security the TL 15's and TL 30's (X6 even better) are the way to go if what you put in them is worth it.
UL TL 15 ¼in to ½in steel is the way to go. Very few companies offer this and plan to spend over $7k.
Thank you James, very informative video. Im just getting into gun safes and I could really use your advice here. I found a 39 long gun safe made of 9 gauge steel for about $2,000, w/ 2 hour fire proof rating. Would you say that is good or bad for the money given what's available on the market? Thank you.
It's more than enough
