- I have often said that my fans are my spark plugs, the positive energy you send me every time I walk on stage is electrifying. So many of you have bestowed me with wonderful gifts over the years.
The reason I am sharing this particular gift, which I am told is a one of a kind, is because it took me back to the very beginning of my career. My first TV show ever! I was so nervous then and I still get nervous today. Hope you enjoy this little moment in time. #TuesdayMuseday

Hi how are you? You met my parents in France when they were engaged in 1956. Unfortunately they both passed away. My mother spoke to you in a restaurant/bistro, you gave them tickets to one of first concerts. Raymonde said she liked a song with les bicyclettes de Versailles and love songs. Needless to say my Dad and mom thought you talented, handsome and well refined quite elegant. I saw you in person in Montreal at a signing at Eaton's centre, my Dad there too. You were wearing sunglasses with tons of people around you with your agent I think. Well I grew up with all your songs. Thank you for putting joy in our lives. I miss my Mom humming and singing to your songs. Shalom and God Bless. My mom was a true beauty and I lucked out looking like Dad Maurice lol.

What a lovely story and what a kind gent for giving you the wonderful present. If it had been mine, I'd find it hard to part with, but then seeing the happy smile on your face would be worth it. You certainly were one hell of a handsome son of a gun and you still are to this day. That voice is like velvet even when you're just speaking softly. I was just listening to Shirley Bassey singing 'What now my love' and as powerful as her rendition is, I yearned to hear the definitive version, the smooth as silk version, the iron fist in a velvet glove version, the Enge version from 1970 and yupp, it just blew me away. The delicacy, the power, the control, the interpretation, just astonishing.

That is very special. I changed my name, too. I didn’t do it legally, but it became my new name. It was a little funny at the time. I’d always wanted to change my name, but nothing ever felt right. I happened upon a new creative technique and tried it out in changing my name. The name I came up with was Gio. It sounded odd, Italian, and like it wouldn’t work, but when I stood in front of my mirror and said the name it was right. I’d tried other names before, and none ever felt right. I was starting a new job through a temporary agency and when I showed up I introduced myself as Gio. I thought they were sending someone named Michael, the lady said. No, I replied, they sent me. And that was it. Gio has been my name ever since, now for over 25 years. How did you ever come up with the name Englebert Humperdinck?
