Heroes III is 1USD on GOG right now. My chat has told me I should stream it sometime. I think it will bring back a lot of nostalgia. I have not played it since I was a child. Thanks for this video. I think I will play it again soon!
Also, don't forget to install HotA (Horn of the Abyss) + HD mod, it's a mod that fixes most balancing issues and additional QoL features. Also, this mod is acting like a expansion and add bunch of new stuff such as new faction, new terrain, new creature, etc. A must install mod if you want to play this game, especially multiplayer with other people.
There is a new game coming from the original creators of Heroes 3. They call it a spiritual successor to HOMM3. Same lead designer, game developer etc. Maybe even Paul Romero for soundtracks. Game is called Fanstratics. Help spread the word!

There is the Horn of the Abyss mode, and really - no one should buy the HD steam version, since it does not include HD models for all of the expansions. Everyone should get the HD mod - its free, and way better in every single regard than the HD paid release.
yup, HOTA has so much more than the steam version and it has some mod or something that makes it more HD like than the original version (which is stuck at a squarish resolution) if you do decide to play, play the HOTA version, and btw they are still fixing bugs and stuff
This. Though you say the Steam HD version doesn't include HD models for all the expansions, when in actuality it just straight-up doesn't have the expansions at all.
Agreed, i have both, and even though it doesnt include as much content i still think the hd steam version was worth it. I bought it on sale for about 2,50 euros and i really like the hd models. Basically what the hd mod does is just increase the resolution, the steam version has some graphical improvements. If you get it on sale, i still think its a pretty decent purchase.

Some details about this game that I feel make it one of the greatest of all time: 1. It has some of the best sound design I've yet to come across, every sound is ICONIC: Luck or morale in battle, the angelic but foreboding choir in a guarded crypt, the contrast between a happy visit to the water wheel and the mystery of the obelisks, the spawning of a new building, the perishing of a defeated army. And the MUSIC - chef's kiss! 2. The resources and collectables on the map are so clearly depicted. My 9-year old brain could immediately figure out what stats different artifacts would boost and the difference between a gold pile and gems. 3. Immense replay value, considering the random map generation, the pros/cons of specific heroes with their innate/learned specialties/skills, the randomness of spells learned through mage guilds and collected scrolls etc. 4. The pacing is just excellent. Nothing quite like deciding that "today is a Heroes 3 kinda day", sitting back with a great game for a few hours, often times knowing that you have the option to come back to your scenario another day or start a new one. There's definitely more, but like people say - the vibe you get from this game, be it nostalgia or not, is just something else. Not even the other Heroes games come close. So, the only really sucky part about the greatness of this game comes from the fact that no one seems to nail down what the essence of this game really is in order to make a sequel or similar game. Many have tried and failed.. Oh, almost forgot: the fact that the cheats are references and quotes from Monty Python is just 10/10. Haven't looked up cheats for the game in 15 years but I remember "nwccoconuts" and "nwctim" vividly
THANK YOU for adapting your video ratio to its content and letting UA-cam to the work ! I wish more people did that instead of forcing black bars on a 16:9 ratio.
This game is so amazing, have been playing it since when it came out with a friend from school, and I keep coming back to it every so often. The soundtrack is absolutely marvelous. I listen to it a lot. Even though it's computer generated music. It just always brings me back to better days.
Somewhat related does anyone remember 'Dark Messiah of Might and Magic'? That game was boss and the combat system for the time blew me away, the steam pictures make it look poundland but its actually a great game
Youre not alone brother, the combat was mind blowing for me at the time, using your environment to take your foes down was a unique concept at the time, it was also made in the source engine, i felt the combat was also similar to dishonored.
when i was a kid, i would have hallucinations about the menu screen. my version was different - instead of the red background and dragon it had blue clouds and an angel raining justice with his blazing sword from above. beautiful times

OMG YES Dude I LOVED this game. Though I was still very young when I played this in the early 00's, It's still one of my favourite games!. The theme music along with the iconic battlefield 1945 music gives me goosebumps
This game was an absolute case of lightning in a bottle that no one, from NWC to Ubisoft has been able to capture since. Exhibit A: Watch gameplay of 1990 Kings Bounty, which, it can be argued, was the first of its kind. It doesn't seem actually possible that those same developers could have created this game less than ten years later. Just the visuals alone. It remains one of the most beautiful and immersive strategy games ever created.
When people speak of games and start discussing the most iconic games in the TBS genre, even without realizing my subconscious me visualizes in my head those so warmly familiar Heroes III images of gameplay.
@@AleK0451 HD mod is not the HD Version they re-released. HD mod is literally just adding support for higher res + widescreen. Whether you want to apply any filters to your sprites is left up to you in the launcher. But also if I recall correctly, HD mod also has functioning multiplayer, though that's an entirely different story and is offtopic.
I only ever had the one Heroes of Might and Magic game for the PS2, which even though it's nothing compared to the other ones, I was still really super fond of at the time. I loved it so much because the entire idea of the turnbased army building and all that was something I'd never seen before (the only other vaguely similar games I had played were Space Crusade and Red Alert) It really was something else entirely.
I'd also like to mention that this game, since my early childhood days, taught me to respect old, classical music? I guess we can put it like that. Heroes 3 soundtracks are truly breautiful. Dirt theme is at the top of my heart. I'd like to know what's yours most favourite soundtrack, my dear comment reader.
Timeless game. The HD mod makes it playable on modern PCs, still pick this up with mates once in a while for that nostalgia kick. Playing it on a large TV is what younger me would have wanted.
I remember going to this summer program as a kid and one of the activities was you could sign up for the computer lab where every PC had a handful of games installed. One such game was HOMM3 and I fell in love, me and the boys would do 4 man lan parties as long as we could sometimes it was just magnificent. Still have it downloaded to this day
Imagine having a day off and it's raining outside , this game is a wonderful choice for u to not get bored. at first u're gonna play 2-3 hours then off to watch some movies but since u got your ass in the chair u just can't do anything else but keep sitting there wholeday till u beat the entire map. this game is amazingly great and it really brings satisfaction and def worth your time Im Vietnamese and been playing since 8 years old. now im playing Hota version(new faction, balance the game, fix bug) which is hands down the best mod for HOMM3 created by Russian fans
This was my favorite game as a child. My dad loved it when it came out and gave my brother and myself a copy on our terrible windows XP computer in 2000. I've played it even to this day. I really wish the HD version had the expansions. :c
This game *is* my childhood memory. And it is so bizarre that it never took off big in the so called Western Europe. I was playing it night after night with my brother and sister, I was playing it after school with my friend, I spend crazy amount of time playing randomly generated maps in a hot-seat mode... And when I bought it on GoG I somehow pulled an all-nighter. Hell, we still have championships with prizes and stuff in Poland.
I played this for the first time at my grandparents house when I was a kid in the 90s and had to search the internet for the game because I couldn’t remember it and now i play it a couple times a year and it’s honestly my biggest nostalgia game that holds up today.
One day in the mid 2000s, my dad gave me the cd for heroes of might and magic 3. He found it "by the dumpster" In his apartment complex. Turnout out to be a right proper banger.
He shows a lot of footage of heroes chronicles. The HD mod doesn't support them actually Edit: Everything gameplay wise but the text prompts from battle of the sexes comes from either of two of the heroes chronicles games
@@siliablackfame5771 You can manually load the Chronicles campaigns into the standard game and play it with HD mod. Also, there are eight Heroes Chronicles titles, not two.
@@AliceAttentionWhore"either two of the chronicles" doesn't mean there are 2, I am aware there are 8. Some details about this game that I feel make it one of the greatest of all time:

@@AleK0451 HD mod is not the HD Version they re-released. HD mod is literally just adding support for higher res + widescreen. Whether you want to apply any filters to your sprites is left up to you in the launcher.
But also if I recall correctly, HD mod also has functioning multiplayer, though that's an entirely different story and is offtopic.
Most mp for homn3 is done via hota since it balances out all the towns via a check box.
+Hota
@@Kirik285 my bad
I only ever had the one Heroes of Might and Magic game for the PS2, which even though it's nothing compared to the other ones, I was still really super fond of at the time. I loved it so much because the entire idea of the turnbased army building and all that was something I'd never seen before (the only other vaguely similar games I had played were Space Crusade and Red Alert)
It really was something else entirely.
2kliksphilip is the only channel that makes a video on a Mac OS games in 2160p60 youtube resolution. _And i’m grateful for that._
I remember going to this summer program as a kid and one of the activities was you could sign up for the computer lab where every PC had a handful of games installed. One such game was HOMM3 and I fell in love, me and the boys would do 4 man lan parties as long as we could sometimes it was just magnificent. Still have it downloaded to this day
Imagine having a day off and it's raining outside , this game is a wonderful choice for u to not get bored. at first u're gonna play 2-3 hours then off to watch some movies but since u got your ass in the chair u just can't do anything else but keep sitting there wholeday till u beat the entire map.
this game is amazingly great and it really brings satisfaction and def worth your time
Im Vietnamese and been playing since 8 years old. now im playing Hota version(new faction, balance the game, fix bug) which is hands down the best mod for HOMM3 created by Russian fans
This was my favorite game as a child.
My dad loved it when it came out and gave my brother and myself a copy on our terrible windows XP computer in 2000. I've played it even to this day.
I really wish the HD version had the expansions. :c
Such a breath of fresh air to find a Bri'ish accent amidst the oversaturation of 'Murican content creators.
Hell, we still have championships with prizes and stuff in Poland.
allways loved the citys in 3. I like the way they look
By far my favourite Heroes game and the only one I still play to this day!
I've never bought so many copies of one game. Says a lot :)
most iconic menu theme
I played this for the first time at my grandparents house when I was a kid in the 90s and had to search the internet for the game because I couldn’t remember it and now i play it a couple times a year and it’s honestly my biggest nostalgia game that holds up today.
What a timing, just as i click this, i get a notification that one of my friends just started HoMM3 on Steam!
If I remember correctly you can only buy the HD version on Steam, you should consider buying it on GOG.
I've been looking for this game for years!! The nostalgia!
Man the menu music takes me back 10 years and I love it
One day in the mid 2000s, my dad gave me the cd for heroes of might and magic 3. He found it "by the dumpster" In his apartment complex. Turnout out to be a right proper banger.
It's a crime 2kliksphilip didn't use the HD mod for this video.
Might not know it
He shows a lot of footage of heroes chronicles. The HD mod doesn't support them actually
Edit: Everything gameplay wise but the text prompts from battle of the sexes comes from either of two of the heroes chronicles games
Also since they've been made on a newer version of the campaign editor (version 7) than released before 3DO going under (version 6) you cannot directly play them with the HD mod, you can only play the imported ones which don't have the begining narration audio
Edit: Making sure I'm not wrong I extracted the .h3c from the game files of the chronicles and trying to open them with campaign editor said it requires version 7. Ignoring that I tried loading them in HotA and Complete both crashed when trying to load any of the campaign files. Leaving only the said not complete backports of the maps floating in the internet as an option.
Considering they aren't difficult at all if I'm going to be playing a story campaign I'd rather have the full story experience than play them subpar in the HD mode
@@siliablackfame5771 ah, okay. thanks for the correction.
sorry if I came off as rude.
I still think he could have used the ported campaigns and HD mod for the purpose of this video.
The King of the Britons would have a hard time articulating his love for this game
The reason I love this game for more than 20 years is because of the music!!
My most favorite is Inferno. It sounds like the very short version of Damnation of Faust.
2 Games everyone should own:
- Heroes of Might and Magic III
- Master of Orion II
Give credit to the soundtrack as well, its iconic and one of the few soundtracks i will listen to wherever i am

I love these videos about games that I'd otherwise never learn about :)
There's a HD mod on nexus mods for those who don't have the game on steam. Also a popular mod is Horn of the Abyss which adds a pirate faction and some extra stuff like more map buildings, it doesn't overhaul what already exists and it is well recieved by the community
The HD fanpatch for this makes it much more crisp and beautiful on modern displays, it's worth the time to look that up
Damn, I love and miss the look of older games like these. I wish they'll make a resurgence.
One of the best games of ALL time!!!
