  • Today I'm building the Pump House for my Rainwater Harvesting System. In the video I'll show my framing process, sheeting and trim work, protection for the inlet piping, electrical layout and a little bit of this that and the other! And on the next video I'm going to build a DIY door and add an interesting little combination locking mechanism. Stay tuned!
    Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions!

    Thank you Joe... another great video documenting you infrastructure. Do you have to worry about extended freezing temperatures during winter season.? A suggestion, perhaps a typed sheet of directions on how the pump system works and suggestions on steps to troubleshoot problems for times when you are working and unavailable. Also, consider adding a GFI-C outlet as an added layer of protection.
    Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle rains, seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace brother

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you. Yes we do have some periods of extended freezing….,but it’s usually only a few days at most. I think the hardest freeze I’ve ever had in ‘this’ area of arizona was into the teens at night and up to the low twenties in the day. Last for 3 days or so before getting to more mild temps.
      However, I have been in the single digits for about a week during an elk hunt in northern arizona though. Cold for this desert transplant🥶
      I do like your advice on the instruction a lot!
      And my blessings to you and your family as well!

      I have an would like to eventually. But I don’t have the income to pay for something like that right now. Unfortunately the ‘gov rebates’ don’t apply the same in my area. Aka…they don’t like us ‘rural folks’😂
      Also, the programs with companies that do grid tied systems where you lease and layback the system are usually riddle with clauses and oThe things I find troublesome.
      But when I do, I will most likely opt for a fully off grid, battery style setup😊

    Funny you mentioned solar: is there a reason you don't power your house with solar? I've always wondered.

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  9 місяців тому +1

      The super short and quick answer is money. I don’t have the funds to do it. And my area there aren’t enough rebate funds to make it worthwhile. Most are reserved for municipal areas…..they don’t cater to us ‘rural rednecks’ 🤪. Not to mention there are always strings attached with you deal with gov programs.
      Also, I have looked into a few of the ‘solar city’ type outfits that do ‘grid tied’ systems. But aside from the lack of rebates I have found the contractual obligations to be troublesome.
      But I would definitely LIKE to do it. Just a matter of funds. And when I am able, my ideal would be to be fully off grid, with batteries. As I wouldn’t be interested in grid tied.
      Anyways, hope that made sense…at least a little bit🤪

      I did not forget, just chose not to. Sometimes that underpayment can trap moisture between the underpayment and the boards. For a house where it is completely sealed and not likely for water infiltrations….it’s a different matter. But for this simple she’d structure that will undoubtedly get some water when I do things like maintenance and have to drain things….there will be an inclusion of moisture past what would be normal. Not the ‘right’ thing….just my thoughts.
