    Good choice guys. Many people go for the 1500 versions of the big 4 and end up regretting it. Yes, the 1500s do have a good towing capacity, but they suffer with restricted payloads once medìum to heavy vans are hooked up.

    A suspension hitch of some sort is the best thing you’ll do to stop that feeling when towing. We use an ozglide on our caravan with our 2500 and it absolutely changed the feel of the van.

    Good choice for towing large vans. I agree with you sun roof is a waste of money, they add unnecessary top weight plus future rattles and water leaks, but that's the way they are produced.

    • @AussieDestinationsUnknown
      @AussieDestinationsUnknown 4 місяці тому +1

      Thats not entirely true. We’re building our third Silverado right now. If you take into consideration the weight of what’s going on, it doesn’t matter if you do it before or after. Lift, tyres and suspension is part 1 of the build 👍🏼

    • @steeevo0136
      @steeevo0136 4 місяці тому +2

      @AussieDestinationsUnknown you're both correct. But we all know how plans change, IE : you may decide on a heavier boat and/or motor, and/or fridge(s) etc etc. You can make an initial guess sure, but you risk under gunning it, or overcooking it and suffering an unnecessarily harsher ride. Much better to wait to get a closer fit IMHO.
      I have a GMC Sierra 2500 HD Denali, same running gear as the Chevies but with the factory offroad suspension pack upgrade, and I don't understand why a vehicle that is designed for heavy hauling way beyond what we are allowed here in the nanny country should even need such expensive suspension upgrades.

    I still believe that towing a lighter van that can use a more common in Aus vehicle, that costs half the price of these in up front costs makes more sense to me.
    But you have been around and you want to tow one of the heaviest vans out there, hope you are very happy and all works well for you.

      Thanks so much, yes absolutely doable with smaller van and less costly set-up. We often chat about the different set ups we have had and loved them all. As long as you are travelling amd out there experiencing this awesome country, then doesn't really matter the set up.

    • @4x4smile
      @4x4smile 4 місяці тому +4

      Weight for every van tower is an issue if you go over 20ft and have 3500 limit. Living in a shoe box 19ft van is just such a bad idea when constantly lapping aus. Also having to use scales for every item added to a van gets tired, I am there with a family van. It totally sucks, this way headroom to spare exists. Go over the limit, no insurance and jail if someone dies in an accident. Or buy a US 2500 plus truck and the problem disappears.

    On the money. When you look at towing a decent load the US trucks are really the only option besides maybe the tundra. But if you want that big diesel torque then ram chev or Ford are all that's around. I get why you went chev, totally thinking of that option myself. Funny how you have to pay tribute to the die hard Toyota fan boys. Anything not rated from the factory in my opinion is a compromise as chops and tunes etc void warranty. Now you are starting from a torque and load rating that no cruiser even comes close to. Man that dash looks nice. The other things like comfort, quietness and effortless towing make this US truck solution to AU towing a no brainer. Butchering a 200 or 300 just does not make sense. Well done and happy safe travels from SA. Hope to see you on wauraltee again next summer.

    Hi Bob and Sue. Congrats on your new machine. A great decision.
    Martine and I have just upgraded from a 16ft van to a Zone Sojourne and are looking for a suitable 4000kg tow capacity vehicle. My home work on weights is doing my head in.
    One or the three USA trucks initially appear the way to go with 4500kg tow on the Nb1 car licence rules. But the needle in the haystack is their limited load carry capacity of around 900kg tare weight . But in reality when you add a few of the bare necessities eg bull bar, tow hitch, passengers, full diesel tank, caravan tow ball down load, tools and so on the kgs are gone. Zip left.
    I don't know how anybody with a canopy or service body gets away with it. I suppose they go down the rabbit hole with an Nb2 rating and all requirements attached.
    So my thoughts are possibly a lightweight canopy from the NZ manufacturer "ute Master" the Centution and leave loading the ute tray to a minimum. Dust ingress in Ute's is also a big problem.
    So if I kept loading the ute to a minimum and maxed out the Zones 4000kg ability I could get away with no gvm changes.
    All suggestions openly taken and again congrats. Cheers Frank.

    You wasted so much money on doing stuff to the cruiser recently and don’t wast your money on rims be smart sort suspension and lift if you are doing it do it all at once with spare to be able to cope for bullbar in the future and canopy weight! You don’t need more than 2 inches of lift for what you do and where you go

    Congrats guys! Welcome to the bow tie club 🤗 So glad the cat’s finally out of the bag! We’ve had to bite our tongue for so long 😆 You’ve made the right decision - these are the best tow rigs on the market when it comes to safety, capability and comfort. We’re on the road every day towing our homes behind us and safety is definitely number one. Love you guys to bits and we’re so excited for you!

    I would like you to try Billy Goats Bluff track in the Chev like you did with the Cruiser.
    The Chev will definitely have less 4wd ability.
    Maybe more sealed roads in the future? That’s ok too.

      I just looked that up myself, 100kg of payload after 2 people and the caravan hitched, I'm guessing first step is a 5500kg GVM upgrade
