    I just realized something crazy, 7 seconds might be the only band where even though they changed their sound, I enjoy both styles equally. I can listen to "sister" or "escape and run", and get the same feeling as "young till I die" or "trust". It's crazy because I'm really picky, and usually get annoyed when bands stray too far from their origins (I can't even attempt any propagandhi albums after "less talk.")... actually I lied, dag nasty "can I say" is fairly different from "field day", and I enjoy them both just about equally.

      @@jasonkessler6841 no problem, but there’s something else I realized after writing this, I’m pretty sure that I was introduced to 7 seconds, dag nasty (and descendents/all which should probably be in the discussion) at the same time, 88-89. So I heard both versions of the bands at the same time I think. I wasn’t as picky, old, and grumpy… I don’t know, either way they’ve all great

    The exact time between “New Wind and Ourselves” and then grew into “Soulforce Revolution.” In my opinion this was there best few years of growth and creativity! By the time I saw them in the summer of 90 they had a control over the audience that still gives me chills when I think about it. A big part of me wishes that they had continued that growth, I think it could have been something truly amazing!! But instead they went back to their old fast punk style. Which was great don’t get me wrong. But these guys were truly on an amazing path. And most people really don’t know how truly great these guys were as musicians. They really could have started something new. Either way I still love them!!! Thanks for putting this up!!!

    • @richwalter5322

      They were a victim of the wave of college radio into grunge, they got swept up then dropped. They went back to their roots to survive. These years were great, got to see them many times, Kev always said at shows "Take care of each other"

I always tell my son that if some of those songs were released in the early 90's they would have been mega huge and very influential. You listen to this and Soulforce and it was way ahead of its time. Great stuff. All of it!

    I first heard most of these tracks on the live album. I spent years trying to track down a copy and when I finally heard the recorded versions I was totally blown away. That record stayed on my turntable for months. So powerful. I asked Kevin once after a solo show if it had ever come out on CD and he said he thought it had but didn't remember the details. Anyone fans out there know?

    It’s too bad that their audience didn’t grow with them. New Wind through Soulforce Revolution are the peak for me. College rock didn’t seem to embrace them and punk was in a weird place. I was a little disappointed when they signed to a major and went back to a more punk sound. Always great live. So happy they are back together

    • @alaskatoburningmen4549

      Exactly the same for me, their major label punk album was a step back imo, though not bad.
      They tried their hand at "grunge" a little bit too, remember?"Out the Shizzy", ha,ha!
      I dug that album and managed to see them on that tour, they made it to Europe on it.

    I saw 7 Seconds for the first time in 1987 at City Gardens in Trenton, NJ. Up until that point, I always thought of them as "Walk Together..." or "The Crew". I remember when they took the stage, and my friends said, "When did they become hippies?" They played all of the songs from Praise, and mixed in the old stuff. It blew my mind.

    I was into this. When New Wind came out, at first I went "WTF?!" and was pretty bummed that it wasn't The Crew Pt II. I almost returned it to the shop for a refund. It took a few listens but it grew on me pretty fast. When Praise came out I was all over it. I forget what the next album was called, that one I thought was just boring. But then I got real into Soulforce. Then I guess I got old because I have no clue what they did after that.

      @markdaniels7174 Рік тому +1

      I like “Ourselves” better than “Soulforce Revolution.” Is that unusual? The songs and lyrics are more accessible than Soulforce, and yet there’s a diversity of song ‘types.’ Sister, Sleep, Wish I Could Help, When One Falls… all great songs.

    I'll be honest. I'm torn on whether I like this era or not. I don't listen to it for several months, come back to it and put it on repeat for like a week at a time (or at least keep it in my playlist.) Time passes and I come back to it, and I'm like "eh, nah, not really. Should have kept the Crew sound." Pass a few months, wash, rinse, repeat.

    Ridiculous to me. because from "The Crew" to "Soulforce Revolution" there is a five album stretch, six if you count this EP, and seven albums if you count a live album where each album was fantastic.
