    Great interview! Holyshit everything comes back to Bob Grushkin he's like Kevin Bacon of bodybuilding! I find it fascinating how so many of the extreme bodybuilders end up going into hardcore religion as the other extreme once they're done!

      Maybe he was always religious, and just became self aware that his journey was absorbing his sanity, feeling blessed for what he had achieved in the sport and walked away from it. because this sport does affect your whole life, especially if you are on that next level...

    • @latman1
      @latman1 4 роки тому +3

      @@amberalexisfit That's very possible. I just find it interesting. I've known many over the years who have went from one extreme to the next. Typical addictive pattern, and then there's those that are at the top that even justify their drug, use and are extreme Christians. Doesn't make a difference to me I just find human behavior fascinating.

    • @drh2098

      It makes sense when you think about it. Bodybuilding is a very extreme and ascetic lifestyle...same type of people who are attracted to that will be attracted to extreme religions.

    I am now 61 years old and been competing since 1980. To this day I still run cycles and growth periodically. I do have some health issues and have had several major surgeries. All of the physical issues are solely due to my use. I have not tried to kick it. And if I did try I don't think it would last. I love going to the gym and I love the whole image of bodybuilding.

    • @fordfairlane529

      Hey mate what type of major issues have you had?

    • @THELEEGASPARI
      @THELEEGASPARI 4 роки тому

      Ford Fairlane, I've had a heart attack. And due to getting stronger by using gear I've had knee surgery, 5-level back surgery, Tricep tendon reattached, hernia, and a vein stripping, doctors thought it may clot and figured this would be the thing to do. It worked. This surgery
      occurred in 1981. And one that I have not shared yet, to any one, is a few years ago I was racking
      80 LB DB and one didn't quite make it. It fell on my foot the end of it hit mostly on my big toe,
      It had to be removed, it was just plain crushed. I was just consumed with embarrassment.
      And to this day I will not tell a sole. So, I'm saying every one of these things were caused by steroid use. And you might say, then why in the hell are you still training? Well all of you know the answer to that. It is just what I do. It means so much to me. It is my passion. It is part of me.
      I do hope that the day I leave this earth I die in a gym. Training as hard as I can.

    I agree one of Dave's best interviews. Arne sounds like a cool dude. I agree with him bodybuilding in my opinion is out of control. I know Dave loved the 90s era and mostly cause he lived it but I think Golden Era or prior was the best. Less is more. I would never do insulin/growth. Not knocking anyone who did or does but I just personally think Serge Nubret was the best looking bodybuilder ever and I would prefer to look like him or even as small as Vince Gironda versus the mass monster look. Looking forward to part 2. By the way Dave not sure if your reading this but could you please try to get a interview with Dr. Scott Connelly? It seems he disappeared after Mytropics.

      Hey Chris, It was his "you can all go out and eat your pizza now" comment after pre-judging that didn't go over well. As you know, we worked together in the early days of Gold's Gym Vermont and he did not have any competition at that time.
