It always saddens me how obscure this game is. I wish more people had played this masterpiece back in the day. Maybe we could've gotten a HD remaster or even a port to modern consoles and PC.
What a well made video about auch an important topic to the game. Seriously, most recaps of the entire story are shorter than this video. Thanks for sharing your hard work with us
This was amazing, I always loved Juggernaut and you explained everything pretty well. Also I think he's one of the most powerful creatures in gaming (at least the ones I have played) you never actually defeat him, you defeat Cort which causes his dead, and I love that xD
Seru infused with mist means rogue’s malice and will mutate the seru turning them into sim seru. The new sim seru is given some of rogues power and controls the human wearer through the seru. Rogue then has another puppet to manipulate to get his revenge against tieg by conquering the human world. I love this game!
No. Sim Seru were synthetically engineered by humans. They aren't the same as the seru that were affected by Mist. One of the villagers in Ratayu even tells you what a Sim seru is. "A seru made by human hands. It's sacreligious" is what she says.
I think Noa being consumed by the juggernaut and possibly transforming it into a Ra-Seru, because Noa, and having it on her right hand would be awesome! Possibly having it so she would have a full body armor of an infused juggernaut on her, even though there may be copyright issues between this game and Legend of Dragoon.
Glad I found ure videos on this old gem of a game back in the PlayStation 1 era. It's up there with Final Fantasy 7, I remember playing it around that time along with Xenogears.
I was a kid back then so I didn't know how f'd up the seru bride thing was. Even after defeating Sim-Van Saryu, some of the brides actually didn't return to the family.
Thanks so much for making these lore videos. I played this game when I was a kid, and I didn't know much English back then, the lore was confusing to say the least. But I did enjoy the game a lot.
TV Tropes compares Juggernaut to Serpentera from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. That comparison is perfect because, in many ways, Juggernaut is exactly like Serpentera: a high-unstoppable, practically invincible creature of enormous size and power whose only Achilles' Heel is when it can replenish its energy. Because otherwise, it would have stomped the heroes out of existence with frightening ease. Its name is perfect, for it is indeed a Juggernaut. And it is one of the coolest creatures I have ever seen, alongside the Divine Dragon from The Legend of Dragoon (I would so love to see fan art of the two together!). As a kid, I was obsessed with wanting it for myself when I learned you could acquire it, so much so that I was willing to cheat to get it. Not earning it the legitimate way is one of my biggest gaming regrets. This video is a perfect narrative recap of one of the greatest monsters in video game history. Well done! :D And as for whether or not Tera would have influenced Juggernaut had Noa been assimilated, I don't think so. The horrific way that Juggernaut is created, combined with the Mist used in sustaining it, would have corrupted Tera and nullified whatever goodness the two could have had on it.
Great lore video. Yes it would be interestinng to know what will have happened if Noa and Terra got abosorbed. The Sim-seru was still larval stage, not fully conscius or strong, so in my opinion two scenario can happen. °Noa will be absorbed while Terra and the Sim will "fight" and if Terra wins maybe we will have a larval but good Juggernaut, that will be useless because it's larval stage... but Sim-seru and Ra can attach to people...maybe it can fuse with someone and go around and be good stuff. °Terra will subjugate and will fuse with the larval juggernaut and Noa will have one of the most powerful seru in existence.
I always found it strange how there wasn't a boss fight against the Juggernaut itself (technically aside from the final boss), though your take on the lack of a boss fight enhancing the idea of Juggernaut being the unstoppable force certainly helps make it feel less strange My younger sister absolutely loved the design of Juggernaut, even when she was very young
I know normal Seru and Ra-Seru would eventually become extinct due to Songi tampering with the Great Genesis Tree and killing it, but I wonder if the same would go for the man-made Sim-Seru and the second Juggernaut Van Saryu created and *sealed* away? Would it be possible someone else could discover some kind of workaround to keep creating Seru in some fashion and/or do it from the sealed Juggernaut? Maybe some lunatic could use it as a basis to keep them in existence in some form...
Why did Cort want to create so many Juggernauts? I thought his initial goal was to beat Sol in war using one, but later it seemed like he wanted to destroy the world.
and sir.what about Juggernauts in beginning game who desroy wall Rim Elm and in Uru mais? it kinda strange actually how many Juggernauts in this game .___.
Juggernaut is still of of the JRPG monsters that strike me fear during my childhood.. His massive size, Imposing presence and unpredictability mesmerizes me.. Such a shame we don't technically fight the thing but getting him as a summon is still a really good payoff in maxing your level out..
Always thought the machine under Ratayu was a Juggernaut producer. We only see Legaia after the Seru-using civilization has crumbled, as seen by Sol Tower and the Absolute Fortress’s Magitech. I think the Juggernaut we see is a Seru made by Pre-Mist civilization as an equivalent of a Nuke. Van Saryu does freak out about the Embryonic Juggernaut, calling it a forbbiden Seru that Must not be unleashed into the world. My best guess: Prophectic Seru that would cause the End of the Seru. Reasoning: Devil element, something not even seen on the Rogue. As in the Rogue, who messed up Tieg’s plan for both worlds and sent out mind-controlling Seru, wasn’t evil enough to have that element.
Yeah this question still keeps buzzing in my head, there is only 1 Juggernaut which was in Ratayu right? But why and what about Juggernaut In the Absolute Fortress?
Yes. The Juggernaut seen in Jette's Fortress and throughout most of the game was created in Ratayu while Dohati was building his Mist Generator, then released from Ratayu's palace on the day the Mist covered the city. The one that tries to absorb Noa was separate. Saryu took a piece of the original Juggernaut and merged it with another Seru to start growing a 2nd one, but the Mist came before he could feed Eliza to it and once it was gone he still remembered and sent guards to get her.
@@LegaiaFan "Saryu took a piece of the original Juggernaut and merged it with another Seru to start growing a 2nd one" what's the source on this? novel?
@@trance1215 Yeah. In it Saryu only says that the 2nd Juggernaut was a clone created by using a piece of the first one's flesh. Since we don't have any in game examples of a part of a Seru creating a separate living, functioning Seru, yet more than one example in game of Seru merging, it makes more sense that an already living Seru was merged with a piece of the original Juggernaut than an identical clone being created only by some flesh being hooked up to some tubes. Saryu also specifies a Sim-Seru as a Seru "improved by human hands", so the original one had to have been created out of some Seru base too since humans couldn't create new Seru from nothing.

This is easily one of my favorite jrpgs. I so wish they'd remaster this for modern consoles. The battle system would really be brought to life on ps4. Like street fighter rpg. Lol
this dude made a channel dedicated to this game, what a legend.
