Kinda surprised they went back to the screw/pillar stop pin instead of the floating style. Also I will never call this a Military 2, that's a Paramilitary 2 XL every day off the week that ends in Y.
Lets cut to the chase. Spyderco released the Military in ATS-34 and black G10 in 1996. ... The Paramilitary was released 8 years later in 2004 for the Beta males who think a 4" blade is too big to carry.
Looks good, but until its released in more steel options I’ll choose the stretch 2 XL in cruwear: Similar blade size and shape, but less handle length, thinner blade and I find that (for a work knife) the back lock is easier to operate with gloves on. Once the Military 2 is available in more steel options, I’ll probably grab one though.

First, there will be a diehard group of Millie fans who swear the 1 is superior no matter how nice the 2 is (I’m not casting aspersions…my 52100 Millie is an extraordinary knife). Secondly, there will be a younger group who will call this the Millie killer or the PM2 killer. Third, and most certain…if it’s ever released in cruwear, I’m going to buy one immediately…

I'm very very happy that I did,, it is without a doubt, the best knife that I own, and maybe the last knife I'll ever buy,,, (ha ha,,, as if,,, )
Not a fan of the compression lock especially that bounce out that I dislike. Or like the kapara and shaman where they are rounded instead of flat and grippy like the militaries are. The kapara is compounded issue where its rounded and narrow. I want Spyderco to stop compression locking every knife but I do see the advantages to doing it to the military 2. I do like the framelock version of the military. Would like to see a paramilitary 2 framelock.
It's definitely good to have your own opinion, this absolutely without any question had to be a compression lock to complete the series, I'd love to get one of these babies in my pocket. The military 2 is more of a brown bear size, fits my hand good.
That's funny, for me the blocky scales of the pm2 are a big flaw for harder tasks and one of the reasons I got a shaman. I always looked at perfectly flat g10 as a cost saving measure. On the FRN models like the endela and para 3 LW they round the edges perfectly, I think because it's injection molded and doesn't cost them any more than making them flat. I like the kapara too, but because of the nice comfortable scales it does have the problem of wanting to fall out of your hand when you use the compression lock with your index finger. I use my thumb on compression locks like it's a back lock about half the time anyway, so it's not a dealbreaker.
@@joshstarkey8883 for the shaman its not as bad as the kapara but it would be nice to keep the scales rounded everywhere other than the compression lock area at the top. The other flaw with the shaman is that finger choil bumps your finger on close. But thats not that big of a deal breaker either. But a bit more thought needs to go into the aspect around the compression lock area on these two models specifically and any others similarly for a cqi version. With the frn its helpful that they do have grip with the pattern on the scales just below the rounded corners. Same aspect with the peel ply texture on the military line. The shaman peel ply was sanded off, so it has no texture and is rounded. The kapara might as well just switch to a backlock to be honest. But if they were to flatten it out, increase the thickness and maybe make some milling lines in the compression lock area, that would be able to make it better overall.
@@tacticalcenter8658 For me the compression lock area is one of the last places I'd want to flatten out because there and the little finger area are where all the pressure goes in heavy cutting. The shaman for me is pretty much perfect when I'm wanting a thicker knife. If I had to change something so the choil doesn't bump your finger when closing I think I'd grind the choil longer or deeper so your finger is still secure without needing the protrusive "nub." The only other potential thing would be to shrink the whole thing ever so slightly to comply with 3.5" blade laws, but honestly that's a problem with the laws, not the knife. I've never really cared for heavy texture on knives. My thought has always been if the handle is slipping the shape is inadequate, not the texture. I think the Kapara should've just been a liner lock. IDK if it's possible with the exact current design, but if they'd have to make the handle slightly broader I wouldn't mind. Lockback would probably be nice too but might be too similar to the endura family. Thanks for the comments, I always like to see different peoples' thoughts on knife design. I don't have to agree with everybody, this is why there's so many different designs out there.

I've owned many Militarys. Its one of my favorite Spydercos. However, I like the frame lock. I'm a fan of the compression lock, but on the Millie I prefer the RIL. I hope they do some other steels with the new Millie 2 though.

not really any big changes at all definitely not going to interest me and I’m guessing the vast majority PM2 owners I’d rather get an older sprint run version like that 15v version u have I have the S110v version in dark blue and a para 3 in s35vn brown G10. It’s a great knife but these changes seem like nothing more than a gimmick but I guess that’s what companies do to try and sell people more stuff.
