How fun I love buying kid's there first knife, my daughters first knife's were Swiss champs Swiss army knife great knife. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. /// PEACE AND LOVE
Same way when i was a kid , that is cool my dad got me buck 110 when i was 9 years old i am 41 and still have the same knife . you cant go wrong with traditional knifes better most knifes that are made today, test of time and can be pasted down in family.
I kept rooting for a Leatherman tool or the Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight Salt (I think it's the LC200N one rather than the Magnacut one), but I think the kid made a good choice.
I was gifted a Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter that has "Death To All That Oppose Us" on the blade. It is the non orange one. This came from a friend who loves knives & is always giving me something from his collection. I never expected to be getting a $180 plus knife from my friend.
I remember when my sons were that age. My eldest son collects strictly Victoronox products. He got me an awesome large multi tool for Christmas. Awesome video y’all!!!
The first knife I bought my son was an Opinel no. 7 that had the rounded tip. It was the only knife my wife would allow him to have. He’s now 16 and loves collecting pocketknives.. he still has that Opinel too.
I was in Dubai at his age (1978) and every few months we went to the local market and I would get a knife, including a full size Kukuri and Kriss dagger 😅
You two would love Smoky Mountain Knife Works over in Tennessee. Maybe yall done been there? Idk but get there early they close at 6pm week days. Lots to enjoy in the area.
I think I’ve shopped with all my grandchildren at young ages. You can tell yourself expect the unexpected all you want which is really not that helpful since you don’t know what form the unexpected will take. It will be an adventure for sure. One you will treasure.
I had a buck 110 when I was his age. The case is a pretty cool pick. I was surprised he never even looked at the kershaws they had. He would have liked the assisted opening.
My first knife was a swiss army knife my grandpa got me at dick's sporting goods. we rode his motorcycle to the store. it's a great memory even though I was just a gremlin begging for a knife lol. I thought my parents were going to be so mad at me but my grandpa had already told them. Also yes first knife then guns....at least that holds true for me many years later too.
i think it was more the awkwardness of the whole public event. remember this is a "covid kid". they don't really know how to act in public or with people in general. sad to say.
Cute kid reminds me of my son a little my dad gave me my first knife at 13 he gave me his buck 110 and unfortunately it got lost in a move but when my son shows he is responsible enough I will give him one. Awesome video thanks guys I love your channel happy new years 🎉
Sweet kid, I was about 8 years old when I made my first knife with my uncle in his garage. It was all file work and the material was copper plate. I used to own a Case knife very similar to that one, can't remember what happened to it. Good video guys, cute kid. Thanks
I identify as your kenfolk, I would like a case crimson peach seed bone sod buster jr, or budget end marbles white smooth bone sod knife, middle of the road price I like the buck 112 slim select with green handles, I got Amazon list going, I can never find them in any stores where I live.
That’s a typical shopping session with an 8-year-old. „Wow, I’m getting a knife!“ „Wait, is that a rifle over there? And it’s pink! I want that rifle.“ „What do you mean, I can’t have it? It’s the same thing, just way cooler.“ „Please, let me have that rifle. I‘ll do anything…“ (Repeat 100 times) „Fine, if I only get a knife…Oh, that’s the knife my friend has and it has a hammerhead on it. OK, I want that one.“ Later in the car being proud of having such a big and shiny knife, not really paying attention to his uncle who tells him several times how dangerous it is.😂 You two did great. Buying someone the first „real“ knife is a special occasion. And you were very patient, always reminding him in a very friendly way of what is possible. And you were very generous! Let’s hope that he will use that Case to learn how to handle a knife without hurting himself. He will develop a healthy respect for a tool like a knife, because it will be challenging for him for a while. And one day, if he doesn’t lose it, he will remember you whenever he looks at this Case.
i disagree entirely. i see two adult-children (aka dinks) attempting to push their interests on an uninterested bored child. i see the poorly socialized child trying repeatedly to show the adult-children he doesn't care and would much rather be doing something else. then i saw a women attempt to pet the kid's hair, and then the kid recoils, this basically sums up the entire video. other than letting the uninterested kid pick a horrible huge lockback as the worst possible first knife. these adult-children are probably re-watching this video, and being glad they chose premium trim cars and mokuti pocket clips over having children of their own.
@@quickcuts3000 That's one way to look at it. But wouldn't it be great for all of us to be a little more like "adult-children"? Perhaps then we wouldn't judge on other people's decision not to have kids. I do have two kids and I love them more than anything, but there was a time when my wife and I were thinking about not having kids. So, I respect that decision. We all should. Was this boy bored? Yep, perhaps he was in between. But he might also learn to accept that uncle and untie do have a passion for their hobby and that they feel like letting him paricipate. He needs to accept that they want to give him a present out of their realm and that this is perfectly fine. He might be thankful some years later. I got things from my dad and granddad that I wasn't interested in when I got them, but now I'm really grateful about them. BTW, I also wonder how you can see that this boy is "poorly socialized" just by watching this one video. You must be a fantastic psychlogist.
might be too young. Hes not really thinking of the practicality in anyway which is dangerous with tiny fingertips on a large lockback. Yall gave him the creativity of choosing, which is cool and all, but we as knife hobbiest know there are better options. Something like a small kershaw or a gerber would have been better for the kid. But still i feel like he needs to grow up a little more. Personally, id have waited until hes got rationality a little more developed
completely agree. a huge lockback is a horrible first knife. didn't we all cut the hell out of ourselves with buck 110's from our idiot boomer fathers?
@@BirdShotIV i know you guys meant well, and i can tell you were excited to be a part of a childs knife journey. but the vibe just felt like it was too early, and with a little more planning could have also been more meaningful. I would have started with something small, with an easy to use lock.(liner, or frame) I would have told him that if he can be responsibe with it, and i hear good reports from his parents that i would get him a real buck like his friend, when hes bigger. And when that point comes, if he was actually becoming a hobbiest we could start talking about some real game changers like bug out, griptillian, manix, para 2. Love to see yall having fun, but i stand by what i said.
Y'all are WAAY more patient than I coulda been 👍🏆
😆😆
I only made it about 2 min into the video before thinking this!
"You'll put your eye out kid!" 🤣
Love that he picked the Case but I have a feeling it was just because of the hammerhead on it.😂😂
He said at the end that he picked it because his friend has one that looks like it and he misses his friend. Sweet kid
Your nephew is adorable, but my goodness he's out of control 😂.
frankie the baby sitter ... dang that's a real job
Best Uncle and Aunt ever.🤣👍
That thing is gonna make a wicked heirloom if he doesnt lose it
😆😆 he carried it in his jacket pocket all week and even had a couple opportunities to use it 👍👍

Wise choice grasshopper 😃
Oh wow, literally couldn't have picked a better knife. Old school design and reliability.

That's awesome my boy is six and already loves knives and even knows a Spyderco when he sees one

Shit $119 get him the pink red rider PINK BB gun!! It's much safer
we would have for sure.
just not the right circumstances 😆😆

Which model?
@@BirdShotIV Ranger Grip 79, red/black
I imagine Uncle Randy approving of Elias' final decision.
'It's no 110, but it'll do!'
If I'm not mistaken, Case is not currently producing the standard black composite handle Hammerhead.🧐
"...Please please please! I'll do anything you ask!"
This was just a lot of fun. The young lad is trying hard for that pink BB gun.
Yep, he's 8. LOL.

The whole time I was saying, take the orange bug out of ,,kid lol good video

Thank you for clarifying the relation 😂

Elias, buddy, stick to the knives in the glass case. They're more expensive and Uncle Bird is rich!
😬😬

Bird steering the kid away from the Benchmade case and over to the Gerbers and Opinels!😂

Omg 😂 the first and last time for me ,well that didn't go as planned next time crayons and coloring book
Was he looking for the dragon master level 16 knives? He seemed very unimpressed by the selection at REI. 💜

REI? You coulda took a road trip to Sportco had a bigger selection at less cost lol

Our REI does not have a good selection of knives, it looks like a Benchmade dealer
This particular store wasn’t as good a selection as we’ve seen at other REI’s
