This was the only time I ever felt a sense of intimidation in a mario game. Bowser had a legit army and world 8 was practically hell accompanied by tritones
The reason why they were called that is because Japanese say family name first their full name is Peach Toadstool and Bowser Koopa. Same thing with Eggman Robotnik
I love how the whole game is so fun and happy and then world 8 is just literally hell. This theme scared the holy HELL out of me as a kid. It was so scary that my brother and I could only play it on mute. If I close my eyes, I can almost still feel the fear in my heart lol
When I passed world seven and went to world eight brother when I heard that sound when I was a kid and knew where I was at I literally cried with fear. That sound was a extreme warning. Do right by God in Christ. And for you to say to play it on mute brother that shows that your heart was pure and did not want to hear that terrorizing horror sound of a second death.
Man I feel such a sense of intimidation and accomplishment of this theme when I hear it. This theme shows me that Bowser is nearby and ready to take on Mario.
This stage was not for the faint of hear, the weak-minded individuals. This stage was a test of courage, determination and true grit. The final castle was unbelievably difficult to complete as a kid..
LOVE this theme. Best map theme in the entire game. My only question with the layout is WHY is there a locked door just before Bowser's Castle?. You can't bipass/cloud the last tank.
I remember this world feeling insurmountable when I was small. Especially when you get to the shadowy area and you have no idea what's waiting outside of your lit-up circle.
When you finally make it to world 8 and you hear this theme along with the fire on the map. You have two options: 1. Switch off the console and get your mind off this bowser version of hell 2. Proceed (Only the brave would choose this option)
As a 10 year old kid once i entered world 8 trough the wisle, i remember how the world map and the tune alone scared me, but i was just keep listening to that tune ,i even purposely bumped on the map screen to cancel some instruments to hear that tune differently, back then we always refered world 8 as fire land and we also first believed that bowser was hiding himself in an airship, o,o,o.
Everybody is talking about how mario 64 boss theme is a remix of this but nobody is talking about how the beginning of bowser castle in mario kart ds is a remix of this
God I remember me and my sister got to this part and had to go to bed........ Leaving an NES on all night you can guess what crushed us in the morning 😂
Well this world is certainly not the longest world in the game as it's pretty short compared to world 6 and 7 it certainly is not the easiest and is probably the hardest world in the game.
Not necessarily. Sure Grass Land had only 6 numbered stages but Desart land has 5 along with the Sun & Pyramid Stages. I'd say Desert & Giant are tied for 2nd shortest Worlds.
It’s not even like the airships you’ve faced from Worlds 1 to 7 - it’s far more dangerous (in that it has much wider gaps, and especially moves a lot faster).
When I was about 6 or 7, my dad introduced me to SMB3. To this day, it is by far, one of my favorite Mario Platformers, and this theme gives me such a deep sense of nostalgia
Super Mario Bros. 3 is an amazing game! I have played at Nintendo Switch Online I started this at the end of September 2023 or so and have been finishing it since the beginning of October 2023.
world 8 on mario 3 was very difficult to pass, but i beat the game anyway. it was fun to play this game back in the early 90s. i still play it on virtual nes on my pc once in a while to remember my childhood days
The music it plays when you're working the closing shift, everything's cleaned up, you're ready to gtfo, there's 10 minutes until close, and then a couple of customers come in and don't want their food to go.

p wing ready for the airship level? good. after the last attempt waiting for w3 to double flute was a good idea
welcome to hell?? huh...

And all you can do is use unnecessary profanity on the Internet for attention

The reason why they were called that is because Japanese say family name first their full name is Peach Toadstool and Bowser Koopa. Same thing with Eggman Robotnik
@Samantha Yeah you're right my bad, his real name is Ivo Robotnik.
Back when the Koopalings were considered Bowsers kids. Not Bowser Jr.

The castle maze was REALLY hard. This world is literally hell.
You mean the fortress? Yeah :(
Little Mario Your scared luigi plush fits with ur comment
Gotta love the large scary hand that pulls you under in stage select
Or how one of the Easter eggs requires you to bury yourself in quicksand
That fortress was the only level I had to look up a walkthrough for.
In Japan, Bowser is sometimes referred to as a Demon King, so yes, his land being hellish makes sense.
That random hand pulling you into the levels, preceded by white flashes on the screen? That scared the shit out of me.
Holy shit me too!! You can get past it ALL by not dying and using a P wing on the stages before
It infuriated me. I just wanted to get pass that damn Airship.
That fast ass airship? Didnt beat that shit til I was 22! 😂😂
Benzene i actually really liked it for some reason
That ramdom helping hand in SMB3 wich will put you down into the lake of fire.
Holy hell! this is where the boss theme from Super Mario 64 came from!

Anyone remember the area that was completely black except for a circle of light around Mario?
I do!

yes I beat it before.
i used to get stuck on those levels as a kid. like I could get past the crazy airship level with ease but the area after tripped me up
Yes
I always thought the background thudding sounded like Bowser's soldiers marching.
I thought it sounded like volcanoes erupting
Jordan Dillon imagine this, it's a bunch of koopas going around knocking on doors
john stubbs I can't stop thinking of that now when I listen to this, thx lol
Its the drums
I've always imagined them as matches being lit up all over the land with candles dancing with the beat lol

that hand dragging mario 3 times down to hell

that song that might play when you’re ready to assert dominance
When you hear footsteps outside your room at night
I remember World 8 as "The World of Hell".
This theme is good for:
Green sky before, during or after a tornado
Completely black sky and lava
So true!
I'm now realizing this was remixed into the boss theme of super mario 64. Holy crap.
nintendowonder also was used as bowsers battle theme in super paper mario.
+nintendowonder And it's used at the start of the bowser boss theme in Super Mario World!
+nintendowonder It's also a mini game theme in the first Mario Party.
also used in mario kart ds for bowser castle
DANG this song is famous in numerous Mario games isn’t it?
Sounds like when my mom comes home

Greatest theme for a stage in smb3. Intense but gets you fired up
This sort of sounds like the beginning of the smw final boss theme
When bowser was an actual threat:
ahhhhh the memories of getting infinite super leaves thanks to the levels where the hands grab you

aesthetic touch, i guess? that's all i can think of.
could you bypass airships with cloud items? maybe thats why
You can’t bypass the tanks/airships with the clouds.
That's why it's there. So you can't bypass it.
@@Mac14329 You’re unable to cloud it anyways. Aw well, minor complaint over a great masterpiece of a game!

The tune itself tells alot , that mario has to suffer with no mercy.

Incredible piece. Feels like the music is trying to resolve one way or another, and is inbetween something.
remember trying to get all the warp whistles and realizing this is the last world and you try 1 level then you say its too brutal

In Japan, Bowser is called “Daimaō Kuppa,” or “Great Demon King Koopa.” After seeing this world, I can believe it!
Well this world is certainly not the longest world in the game as it's pretty short compared to world 6 and 7 it certainly is not the easiest and is probably the hardest world in the game.
Desert Land was the shortest.
Ice Land (World 6) is the longest.
I always loved how long world 6 is, when you reach level 9, 10 and another castle, i was really surprised back then to see level 10. lol
This is easily the hardest world in the game

*it’s basically hell.*
Welcome to Hell
In my opinion this beats all the world 8 theme's in the mario series, sounds so epic
it took me years to realize but THIS IS PIECE BY PIECE FROM SLAYER!!!
Even though this world was difficult for me, Pipe Land was the hardest world in this game for me.
They brought back this theme as "Dodging Danger" in Mario Party 1.
Oh yeah i remember that
And they brought it back in Super Paper Mario as Bowsers boss theme.
THIS SCARED ME WHEN I WAS 8, 11 NOW AND I LOVE IT
Even when this world is not the hardest nor the longest of all it's got the most difficult and longest stages of the game.
THAT fucking airship level. You know which one. Either use a "P-Wing", or suffer like crazy.
It’s not even like the airships you’ve faced from Worlds 1 to 7 - it’s far more dangerous (in that it has much wider gaps, and especially moves a lot faster).
The most serious Mario bgm of all time save your princess toadstool Mario!
Before he resided in lava-filled lands, Bowser resided in Hell itself. Yeesh, that's truly dark.

This game probably has the most difficult Bowser world in the entire mainline series, so its accurate that this one depicts hell the most

There's only one Bowser. He's not a species.
this makes me sway back and forth really big
The tank / ship levels piss me off to this day
I can't listen to this without imagining Bowser playing the drums.
i like how in super mario world, this melody was used in the beginning of the final showdown between bowser
I like every world in this game, but my top favorites are worlds 4, 5, 6, and 8.
Yeah
6 was damn long
Too long. 10 stages although it's mandatory to beat only 7& 3!!!!! Fortresses. Even World 7 only has 2 Fortresses.
I'm pretty sure this is what you would hear upon entering the gates of hell.

Dark land has one of the coolest map
